    Nice tutorial. In my opinion, the appearance panel is the most underrated/underutilized aspect of Illustrator. It’s so powerful. In the past I have made entire designs from a single anchor point using multiple fills and strokes with effects applied to each one. Obviously that’s a bit over kill. But it is a fun challenge and teaches you a lot about the appearance panel.

    I like that final background effect, good stuff.
    If I had two illustrator requests it would be a keyboard shortcut for stroke width and the ability to parent objects.
    I should browse around and see if you have any videos that would help with that. First time seeing your vids, good stuff.

    Great tutorial. Is there anyway to add gradient to your text without outlining it?

    • @ForeverDansky
      @ForeverDansky  Год назад +2

      Yes! It’s a bit of a faf, but if you remove any fills/strokes first, then separately create a gradient on your artboard, add the gradient as a swatch by dragging it into the Swatches panel, then select the gradient as a Fill from the Appearance panel 👍

    I'm going crqzy. When you drag the lighter yellow above the other yellow at 3:24, the lighter yellow is the fill layer with an offset path. The darker shade does not. But when you move them suddenly an offset path pops up on the darker layer. What is happening?

      Good question! You can use strokes too, but it will depend on the effect you’re going for. Sometimes fills will work better, and other times strokes will work better 👍

    Why do we have to counterintuitively “delete” the fill just to change the full color. I hate Adobe so much Lmfao

    • @ForeverDansky
      @ForeverDansky  Год назад +5

      I think that currently it's because of how appearance effects work and stack on top of each other. Simply changing the text colour doesn't actually modify a 'Fill' in the Appearance panel, but instead changes the colour of the text properties directly. It's similar with applying gradients, much more complicated than it needs to be, and the process could definitely be made simpler.

      Text in Illustrator has both a “characters” appearance and a “type” appearance. You can see both of these in the appearance panel. The characters are the individual characters or letters of the text, while the type is the actual type object as a whole. When creating type in Illustrator, it applies a black fill to the individual characters by default. If you were to select just a few characters of a word with the type tool you could change their fill color to something different than the rest of the word. This is because it’s applying the fills on a character by character basis. Now if you select the type object with the selection tool and then create a new fill color it will apply that color to the whole type object, which then covers up any fills that you had on the individual characters.
      Here’s another example that might help you understand. Let’s say you had several shape objects that each had their own fill color, but then you grouped them together and applied a new fill color to the group. That new fill color would then cover the fills of the individual shapes. If you were to select the group and look in the appearance panel you would see both a group appearance and a contents (individual shapes) appearance. It’s pretty much the same thing with type. The type object is like a group that contains the individual characters, and you’re able to apply appearances to both.

    I've been searching for this video for hours. Why the hell would you make the thumbnail and title like this? You should have put the 'Pumpkin' text as the thumbnail and included 'Tutorial' in the title instead. This is just a failed attempt at clickbaiting. It would have worked better if you made the title simpler and more searchable.
