I couldn't get the Zilkee Recovery Converter to work directly with the Seagate Drive, however connecting both to my MAC Laptop allowed me to transfer the files from the Dell Laptop Hard Drive to the External Seagate by dragging the files from one folder to the other. As far as I am concerned the process and the Zilkee Converter worked well... It gave me a chance to review what I was recovering.
You pointed out an area on the Seagate alluding the four pins having no electrical molex or mini connection. The mistake there is that's not an electrical connection - it's for jumpers. You short two pins to designate the drive as a slave (or master) to another hard drive on the same bus for drives. It's not used that much today but was very common in the past due to the size and interface of obsolete hard drives.
I just used the Zilkee converter to access an old Mac's Seagate hard drive, which wouldn't be recognized by the new Mac used to transfer the files. All the checks mentioned in the video were done, but nothing worked until I moved the jumper from the first (master) default position to the next (cable select) position, which allowed the drive to be recognized. The Zilkee worked fine. They should discuss jumpers in their instructions, of course, but the hardware does the job. Thanks for the video!
I too have a Zilkee and I was told that if you are reading a windows hard drive you must use a windows computer, same thing for Mac hard drives, they will only read Mac hard drives, hope that helps! I'll let you know if it works for me.
First of all, check your disk utility on your mac, that may give you an indicator of a presence of the drive and the capacity. The main reason why it does not show up, is because the drive is likely formatted in a file system MacOS doesn't recognise. Second, on an Ide hard drive, make sure you put a jumper pin on "Cable select" or "Slave", so that it's controller can mount it. It may take slightly longer to mount some drives, but still works well enough. Finally, you may have overcharged for this device. Zilkee ships generic IDE/SATA to USB 3.0 converters with their brand on them. I have a matching unbranded version of this device, and it has worked perfectly fine and I paid less for it. P. S: The 1st hard drive sounded like it initialised fine, but the 2nd drive sounds like it's clicking and making a beeping noise. This is called, the click of death. This happens when the head on the actuator collides with the disk's surface, resulting in the drive's controller constantly retrying the initialisation procedure to no avail. P. P. S: To the comments saying that he did not apply power to the drive, it's absolute hogwash. Both 12V and 5V were being provided to the drives respectively. 12V from the external supply, and 5V from the USB cable, which I'd say is an interesting way of getting both supplies to the hard drive.
the hard drive is getting power because you can hear it starting up - but the little part where i saw the instructions on your other video - they specifically state an order of how to do things - first connect their piece to the supplied power cable - then turn the power switch on - then connect the hard drive - then connect the usb... i'm not sure if it will make a difference, but maybe try to do it the way the instructions say to do it...??? i'd be interested in seeing if that works...
I noticed the unattached power plug 1:06 but what I'm still not understanding is this: If your computer fails, say the motherboard goes but the hard drive is still OK.... assumedly the situation where this ZILKEE would come into play best. Then of course you would just take the hard drive out of the failed computer and plug it into another, new PC or laptop anyway. Typically the opposite happens, the hard drive is the first thing to go bad. Since I never got to see this thing in action, are there any recovery tools on it for skipping bad blocks/headers and recovering files off a bad or failing disk, or is this simply just doing the same thing as plugging the drive in another PC via a SATA or IDE cable? If that's the case I guess it saves you from having to take the back of the case off, and you may not have a daisy chain cable idk. But its not something you have to do often anyway
I saw an ad for this product on RUclips. The ad made it sound like this device is the miracle gizmo that can recover data from any HD. It’s not. In the end it’s just a three way conversion plug to connect different kinds of HDs to a computer via USB. In the video the guy is connecting a SATA drive to the ZILKEE device. He is using the correct connector. In SATA drives the larger connector supply the power and the shorter connector is for data. At one point he mentioned that the drive was warm, therefore the drive is getting power. Question: is the drive getting the correct amount of power? I believe it should be around 12 volts. Not sure of the current draw. Also are the drives from a MAC or PC? JustSaying.
I recently bought one of these Zilkee devices. A bit of a disappointment really. No different from an adaptor that I bought years ago but because there's far fewer leads to connect it up, it is slightly more convenient. It's not a miracle gizmo as the adverts would make you think. Sata Seagate drives won't work on it and they won't work with the older one that I have either. Maxstore Sata drives work OK as do Pata Seagate drives. All of the Seagate drives I tried are known good drives. The PC recognises something when I plug it in but nothing appears on Windows Explorer. There must be something different with Seagate Sata drives.
Is your Seagate the big square one with the slope on one side, gray and white with a external power source? Do you have to open it and remove the drive if thats the same one
The second hard drive he plugged in, if you listen, you can hear the repeat clicking sound. This is called "The Klick Of Death". There are videos on this as well. Basically, it must be repaired by a pro. Also, the instructions do say to try using a different computer if the first one doesn't recognize the hard drive.
Ladies, Gentkement I read that many people are blaming the author for publishing the video but no-one seems to offer a solution just complicated technical terms that fee of us understand. Could someone kindly show us a way for the item to work? Thank you.
A couple questions Tom - those Hard drives you are trying to see on your Apple computer are they new or are they used, reason being if they are unformatted new HDD they should show up …but if they were formatted on a Windows PC with NTFS they cannot be seen on a MAC which uses a different file system APFS (Apple File System). The only file format that is compatible on both MAC & Windows FAT (file Allocation Table)
The only failure here is your failure to read the provided step by step directions. The supplied power pigtail will plug into the device & the drive, though it is a bit snug, then you'll see the hard drive. If the wide side fits the drive then it needs it plugged in & if it doesn't fit then the drive doesn't need it. I successfully used it for both types AND a solid state drive. After its hooked up CORRECTLY you may have to open your available drives to see it as i didn't get any desktop indicator either. Time from unboxing to looking at my files, including reading the instructions, was maybe 10 min. Maybe not the best product out there, but if you're going to review something at least set it up correctly before judging.
hi I got same problem it don't read on my computer can you help me? I read the instruction but its looks like straight forward...what ima doing wrong ??? what Mr tom did wrong ?...
Well, I tried everything possible including reading the instructions and was not able to get this Zilkee device to work with my seagate SATA drive that I was trying to recover some pictures and documents from. I plugged it into my newer Windows 11 PC via USB cord that was supplied. I also used the power adapter. It would freeze the computer and it would not show the drive was there. I could hear and feel the drive power up and had a blue indicator light "on" the Zilkee device illuminate. I was ready to throw it in the trash when this topic showed up on RUclips. I decided to try hooking up everything to an old Windows XP Sony laptop that I haven't used since 2004. It recognized there was a new drive plugged in and asked if I wanted to install software. There was a warning that software may not be compatible and may cause damage. At this point I didn't care what happened to this old Sony and selected install. Unbelievably my Dell hardrive appeared as a "D" drive and I'm able to see all of the drive. Now I need how to figure out how to get the documents off the old Sony. It only has one USB port that is being used by the Zilkee. I previously tried to get a document off the Sony by plugging in a thumb drive that was too new and wouldn't recognize the thumb drive. My work continues.
I have so many old drives and I have a couple of different pieces of hardware that I used to look retrieve them but this thing doesn’t work worth a crap. Good luck thank you for watching.
Just got mine and can see am not the only one having same issue it really is a Failure indeed. As I fiddle around with it I notice the Device is being power via the USB and not the power adaptor at all! I tried unplugging the USB from the device and awhile the power adaptor plug in the wall but the Adaptor is not powering the device at all. So it either a design fail or the Adaptor is not compatible with the Voltage even if the power adaptor was design for this very reason.
Don't judge the product on a review like this. Worst review I've seen. Connect it in the order it's supposed to be connected and definitely plug the power lead in..!
Looks like no power cord was plugged into the hard drive which is done on other videos for this disk drive interface device. I have several hard drive break out boxes. they all require normal power input to the hard drive just like if plugged into a computer. So apparently you provided no power to the hard drive. You even noted the power empty connection.
Sorry Tom, watching you navigate a SATA hard drive with an IDE 4-pin molex - fail! That's all anyone needs to know. If you don't know what you're doing (like where the power goes in), don't do it!!
Thoes 4 pins are to creat master and slave drives it has nothing to really do with the day to day running and that clicking means the slider arm inside is stuck
Another person said that we had to have additional power supply, but you would think that if they’re going to sell a product, it would come with all of the tangential equipment
Those having problems, dud did you get some time to read the instructions?, did you guys use the disc (program) the comes with? There's more than just connecting cables. READ PEOPLE, REEAADDD!
Didn’t come with a program or additional cords to hook up to the drive for power. If you watch the unboxing, you could see what came with the yeah converter on all dad customer experience for me.
If the drive has some sort of mechanical failure click, click, click, click, how would that device ever do what a TikToker advert claims it will do.? No prizes for guessing why you can't comment on that absurd advert.
Dodgy as product. In a hurry to recover my hard drive data, I rushed into a purchase with my BS filters turned off. Tried transferring my dead MacBook Pro drive to a new larger hard drive. Connected the 2.5" disk to the Zilkee SATA port but it was not recognised as an attached device on y Mac. I double checked the instruction connection sequence. No joy. Uprated the power source to 12V DC / 3.0A. Still no joy. Then I tried with two other working disk drives. Again the same issue of the drive not being recognised as an attached device. I also ran these tests on three different USB ports. For those rushing to tell me to back up my data. It was. Not everything though. Mainly my important folders. So I'm off to a Data Recovery specialist. Investigated further and found this video. Insightful. ruclips.net/video/W3-I3gJxM50/видео.html

Hello, would this device work for a seagate external hard drive?
Only thing missing there is power from Zilkee to harddrive seems like the cable they gave u is not compatible with your drive.
And these are just basic steel drives so I don’t get it
Well, I tried everything possible including reading the instructions and was not able to get this Zilkee device to work with my seagate SATA drive that I was trying to recover some pictures and documents from.
