According to some lore a literal fax machine chooses the Splatfest themes, it recorded what humans said from 12,000 years ago and prints out what it heard. Which might explain some of the out there Splatfests like the Fork Vs Spoon, or all the TMNT Splatfests.
I compared the two options in an unbiased way and mushroom prevailed in the gameplay of the original game. I was originally gonna do team star but I used a point system to compare the two and had to change my mind. 1. Invincibility time. That went to star, obviously. 2. Bonus Special abilities. They both got one point. One for star for super speed, one for mushroom for brick breaking. 3. Frequency. This one obviously went to mushroom. 4. Length of abilities. I was conflicted on this one because star had a set time (19 seconds) but I ultimately gave it to mushroom for the fact that you could theoretically have those bonuses for eternity. I was very reluctant to accept this at first, but based on the evidence I had to go with team mushroom.
As someone whose been a Pokemon fan for MANY years and has many Pokemon friends I can say that Magikarp V.S. Feebas is actually a common debate. They're both fish that evolve into serpents. For Magikarp it obviously evolves into Gyarados and Feebas evolves into Milotic. Many Pokemon fans who started with Red/Blue/Green would probably choose Magikarp/Gyarados and a few others too because they think Gyarados is just really cool and badass. However, myself and others would probably choose Feebas/Milotic for a number of reasons. Some because it's so pretty and Milotic is very good in competitive Pokemon battling. And personally Milotic reminds me of mermaids which are my favorite Mythical Creature. A fun debate no matter who you choose.

What if we did another Squid vs Octopus and then there could be a different story between the two that everyone gets at the end, and then Squids go at war with the Octopi and then Pearl and Maria split making their own solo songs
Another idea is how about a 3 team splatfest that features Splatoon 1, Splatoon 2, and Splatoon 3. The game should also provide weapons from the different games (until the splatfest is over kinda like a demo) but the weapons in splatoon 1 should be nerfed so they make the game fair

I don’t think this will be the last splatfest, because Nintendo said it would extend to March, and Super Mario All-Stars and Super Mario Bros. 35 (Bless it’s soul that it will be missed.) So it may extend as well, and to connect that maybe whichever team is the winner will decide the next one because it extends But hey that’s just a theory.
