See if you can put a flagpole at the end of 8-4 instead of an axe. The original game would have programmed an 8-5 which didn't exist and would be garbled code.

In a way, it's a more fleshed out "debug" mode from classic sonic games where you could turn sonic into level assets and place them in the zones as you see fit.
The 1st time around the blocks didn't load in Bowser's castle, but once you missed the pipe to the water area, it looped back, this time loading the blocks, while keeping the ones you added on the 1st pass.
I think the reason it breaks a lot is because smb isn't a tiled game it loads the level in parts that are re used for different levels which save a ton of space. when you scroll the game does a check to find kinda where u r but when ya edit the tiles the game freaks out because it doesnt expect those tiles to be there
I find this ROM hack interesting. I can actually see something like this happening in a real video game. I know LittleBigPlanet 3 did something similar.
