  • Finally! Starlink for RVers made simple. As full time RV travelers who need a reliable connection, we are thrilled that we got our Starlink for RV in less than a WEEK! Will we love it in a month? We will let you know. Our main concern is when we camp at woodsy state park campgrounds. Will we get a signal? Will Dishy be able to find satellites?
    In this video, we give our first impressions of Starlink RV and how this is different than all other Starlink versions before this. We also go over how to assemble the hardware and get connected using the Starlink APP.

    Always do a reboot from within the Starlink App on the wifi and the router once a day. That will dramatically help with speeds... Also put the dish into stow mode and then hit un stow once a day and that will also force to dish to find a more preferred satellite which helps the speeds big time. I am in a waitlist area with the RV vesion and my speeds are always up near 70-100Mb download. Get 2-3 mesh units as well.... Huge difference !! AWESOME!!!

    Nice video. Very good explanation. One thing I would clarify is that Starlink Residential WILL allow you to use it without changing your service address as long as you are paying the $25 portability fee. Updating the address is only required if you do NOT pay for portability or if you want prioritized service.

    Excellent and thorough review! I also appreciate the content indexing. I'll certainly be watching for update videos as they become available. My only concern is theft (in its current location). As for theft, Larry did his research - of course - and found no theft reports. But still, when it’s on the ground, he uses tent stakes ( there are holes in the stand legs) and we have a solar light next to it so it won’t get run over since it’s at the end of the drive of our site. Great question

    Really liked your demostration. Very easy to understand. I have been on a home waiting list for 2 years for Starlink. Now that I see what you have said, I think I will order the RV one. I am already paying Viasat for my internet out here in the country, so cost will be about the same. My husband is retiring in about a year and we will be traveling from Michigan to South Dakota yearly. Along with other states. I am going to order one while I still can and it looks easy enough for us older folks to set up. LOL Thanks again.

    Thanks for sharing the information. I've had my starlink for 6 weeks now, just before the roaming charge came through. I have had trouble using it in a couple of places because of tree cover, but overall, it's been great. I definitely prefer it to the cellalur hot spots I have, much faster. We have been talking about purchasing this device for sometime now. Even though, we are not full timers we believe that this technology is the wave of the future and this will be replacing most satellite systems in the very near future. However, I personally don’t believe this will be Starlinks only system. We already know about Tesla vehicles, electric power plants and substations, but we are also hearing about the cell service that’s being developed. Thank you for demystifying Starlink for RV and for comparing & contrasting with the home version. We have crappy internet at our house, so I am wondering if you think Starlink for RV is a viable option for use when we are at home. For what it is worth, we have lots of trees at home, except for north and eastward directions.

    • @DownsizingMakesCents
      @DownsizingMakesCents  2 года назад

      I think it would be a good solution for your home as long as you can get a clear shot at the sky. Download the app and use the visibility tab to get an estimate if the place you want to put the antenna will work. $135 is expensive for home internet but if there are not other affordable options for high speed low latency, unlimited internet then Starlink is the way to go. Seems to be a viable solution to all the cellular options / plans most full timers now use. We are not FT, but spend a lot of time traveling. We do not need instantaneous access and massive speed rate since we are both retired and just do emails and banking online via MIFI while traveling. My initial investment was less than $300 and monthly rate of $17 for data plan is quite adequate. Personally, I think the equipment cost is on the high side for what you get, along with monthly service rates. Plus, having to deal with 75 feet, or more, of cable trying to find the sweet spot in the sky, disregarding the monkey motions to set up, assuming you have a clear view of the skies. For many,this is probably a good solution, but not for me. Also, I always get a bit nervous when everyone jumps in the only gam3 in town and rates are “good”. What happens later when Musk decides he needs more money? Good to see you back in action Larry and happy that you are improving.

      Thanks you. Larry is glad he’s up to working on these type of videos.
      Unfortunately, we do to make sure we are connected- a lot to do with RUclips.
      It’s a shame our $1000 PepWave router we bought through Mobile Must Have is black listed by ATT & no one seems to be able to fix it. So we had to come up with something.
      You are right - this does cost, too. And something better might come along tomorrow.
      But for now, it’s really not that hard to set up - a bit easier than the dual Yagi signal booster we set up (another video).
      Glad you have an inexpensive plan that works for you 🤗

    Larry, as far as we're concerned Starlink is the best thing for RVers since sliced bread! Obviously in the desert Southwest trees were no concern. However, now that we're in the Pacific Northwest we have to be very choosy on where we camp. We've been deliberately seeking out the rare open areas around here, and so far so good.

    Does your dish provide service throughout North America.? We travel in Canada and the US.

      Yes. Not every area is covered in Canada, like US. There is a map that shows what is not covered - usually very unpopulated areas

    Can you purchase the RV package and utilize it at home when not traveling?

    I'd like to have starlink for my house for my home cameras when I'm away, and my rv. Do you know if you need to pay double for this?

    Been thinking about it but we are campers that are not full time so we have a residential home base. Not decided yet

      The nice thing about Starlink RV is just pay for months you need it while camping

    I have placed deposit for starlink residential but want to get the one for RV and use it for home until starlink residential is available. Pros and Cons? Can I keep hooked up 24/7? Where is the best place to place it for stability of the unit itself, taking into consideration weather conditions(High winds and storms)

    • @DownsizingMakesCents
      @DownsizingMakesCents  Год назад

      If you are putting on a home, a roof or facia mount is best, it gets it up high with better angle for unobstructed sky, the mounts that starlink offers are very strong and will take wind and storms well. On the RV it is best to keep it flexible, using the standard mount that comes with it, I either use that or put it on top of my 25 foot antenna pole to get better sky in areas with trees. Yes you can keep it hooked up 24/7. Larry

    I honestly thought I would see how you connected to the rv.

      We will never have a permanent hookup to RV since where we camp can be so different.
      But Larry did create a 3D mount to our existing long pole (common pole many have). That may be a future video.
      This was just about getting to started

    Is this unlimited data or does it give so much and then slow down when the max has been reached?

    Have you looked into the T-Mobile, internet it's $50 a month and it's mobile for unlimited data

      People have told us that T-Mobile coverage in Florida wasn’t great so we were reluctant to try T-Mobile, but that sounds like a fantastic deal. Larry

    Would you be able to change the service from RV to Residential - if ever settle to a permanent location ?

      I dont think you can right now but they do have plans to add that capability in the near future. Basically you would turn off portability, that would save you $25 per month. Larry

      you can get home starlink with "portabilty", its some plan they offer where you take your home system with you, but there is a waiting list where I live sso I just bouht RV

    now all the residential customers will just opt for the rv version to get it in a week vs 9 months of waiting. not a lot of pple care about $25 a month extra...thats a 15 minute trip to the dollar store for most...
