I’ve had more time with it now and will have an update soon. But, after we go on our trip to Houston, I’ll have more info about how it works in an active cell. So I’ll probably have another update in a month or so. So far, I’m psyched about it!
Starlink needs to offer an interior and exterior wall mount( similar to the cable or electric hookup). Then you could plug the dish on the outside plug and then the inside for the router. That way you do not have to run the cable through an opening such as a window or door.I have an older RV and I am handy. It would be nice to have this as optional equipment
They do offer different mounts on their website if you login to your account there are several different options including a wall mount. Just remember you can’t have the dish mounted while traveling I don’t think it will hold up under the conditions but I could be wrong.
@@nevysadventuresllc9074 my issue as per my first comment with is not the dish mount, it is having the ability to plug the dish from the outside just like you were a cable connection that I don’t Carvey site and be able to plug in the router on the inside plug and being able to unplug it without having to go through a window or door way which I think is hokey.
@@EmanM45 sorry I thought I implied with the side wall mount you have to drill anyway so just drill for the line as well but I understand the confusion. Personally on any camper I would go through the roof and that way your line is permanently run and avoid the potential for leaks if mounted on the sides or they do have a pole mount also. Just trying to give you ideas.
@EmanM45 This is what I'm going to work on when I get my Starlink. I have satellite and cable coax connection on the outside of my 5th wheel. I'm going to look for the male and female connectors and run the Stalink cable through there. Hopefully a can find male and female connectors. I may have to pull the sat. cable out while pulling Starlink cable in. That way, I don't have to wait for Starlink to solve my problem. If I can do this successfully, I'll post a video. EDIT: OK, I just read that Starlink uses cat5e connections. Once all my parts get here, I'll post video on how I pulled coax cable and fished the cat5 cable inside and made connections.
Excited to hear of your experience with this over time. I just started to research and consider it myself. Those speeds aren’t lightning fast like some people see, but are better than what I have at my house and more than adequate for everything I do and need it for. Hope all is well. Travel safe.
The slow speeds I got are a result of being in a non active cell and being deprioritized because of the RV plan. I won’t have a good test until I’m in an active cell. I’ve done a lot of testing since I recorded the video and see somewhere between 10-100 Mbps down and 3-50 Mbps up. Evenings seem to the worse than morning and afternoon. Gets very slow at night when everyone is using it.
I’m still waiting for my home version for about 18 months. Maybe this fall it’ll arrive. Already been a price increase since I ordered it. Nice to see you folks. 👍🇨🇦

I found this on Reddit “No there is no maximum time frame you can keep it paused, However, there have been reports of people that have the residential dishy that have stowed there's over the winter and when they went to set it up the dish was bricked because it fell to far behind on firmware updates, Support told them they would have to buy a new dish in order to get it working again (This was for out of warranty dishs). SL doesn't offer us at this time to manually flash the firmware so this doesn't happen.” But I want able to find anything official.

Thanks for watching. And to answer your question. Absolutely! Starlink was awesome for us. I know many people that rely upon it. There are some areas that are slower, and periods of time that it’s slower. But 98% of the time it was fast enough for whatever we needed to do.
90% of the places we stay, can't even use a cell phone. I look forward to getting this. Will use at home also. Not sure which services to get for TV. Like Netflix etc.

Always do a reboot on the wifi and the router once a day. That will dramatically help with speeds... Also put the dish into stow and then hit un stow once a day and that will also force to dish to find a closer satellite which helps the speeds big time. I am in a waitlist area with the RV vesion and I my speeds are always up near 70-100Mb download.

Enjoyed the WIFI, but Starlink's customer service is close to worthless. Had it not been for Mr. J Christina's videos I would not have figured out how to "communicate" with Starlink. The email and thumbs down method gave me access, but Starlink's responses to simple questions were ridiculous ! After 3 months I sold my "Roam" gear and transferred my serial # etc to someone else using the excellent videos. After reading other comments below, I can see that the monthly cost will continue to rise and make it prohibitive. I don't do a lot of streaming or downloading so my phone carriers WIFI (Mint) is just fine. I also see I paid $100 more through Starlink to buy my gear, when I could have purchased through Best Buy !
I hear ya. I've had mine paused for about 5 months because we have great wifi at the campground right now. I've considered selling it, but want to keep it just in case. I use Visible phone plans for mobile data and campground wifi while we are stationary. And, I had no idea about Best Buy, I'll have to look into that! Thanks.

Haha. We had just had a huge party in that space and the flys got in. Trying to record was hard because of the flys. So annoying. We might visit Kingstar on our trip. But last time we missed a lot and wanted to return. Sometimes we have plans that mean skipping things we want to do. And, Houghton is fantastic!!!!
I had to have it shipped to NY it has been at my parents house for the last month. I am excited because I am going to NY next month and I am excited to try it out myself. I can cut down my cell plan as well.
@@Stonyboot something I found out yesterday since I had the home edition I am exchanging it for an RV edition. Apparently it has a different dish so you can get priority service. Whatever they mean by that. Since mine box haven’t been opened yet they are doing an exchange of a whole kit.
@@Stonyboot I thought that as well but on the website it only gives you the portability option which puts your signal strength on secondary and the RV dish they said is different and puts you on priority signal is what it said or something like that is what the tech told me yesterday. They told me the dish is different and you can trade your dish in and get credit towards the RV dish. I haven’t even opened mine yet and they told me they are going to discount it because it has been over 30 days. Also with the RV service if you can get switched over you can turn it off and on when not using it where as I have been paying for service I haven’t been using for the last 3 months. Anyway I hope any information we all get or updates we all keep each other informed. A informed group is a smart group. Let’s all help each other save on costly mistakes.
Yup, 5Mb is plenty, I work remotely full time, and I'm limited to 5Mb on my hotspot, I can do conference calls, screen share, and all my regular daily duties without issue at that speed. Granted, it's just me, and I don't have to send/receive large amounts of data but I think most people overestimate how much bandwidth they need.
Agreed. I was able to test it in an “active cell” and I got about 100-150 Mbps down and 5-20 up. While I love having the download, what I really need is unlimited upload. I sync all of our data with cloud storage, which uses about 500GB - 2TB / month. This should help out most of the time.

I'm not usual to make a negative comment. But the speed you showed was your upload speed. Your download wasn't shown. I have starlink 180 to 200 down and 5 to 25 up.
On my tablet it's at 920 it never shows the 25 mbps it shows 5. And it looks like the screen on the starlink app that it's on the second phase of testing th uplink. Maybe we got different. Versions. Mine tests them separately. That is why I was questioning it.
If you pause the video, it shows the download speed, then in small white text below, it shows the upload speed. This was probably an over version of the app. I’ve used Starlink all over the country. In a good area I’ll get about 200 down and 20 up, but in slow areas, I see 1-5 Mbps. We have good speeds about 85% of the time.
Starlink..........I just watched a video of a couple on a power boat. Just in the past month he made some modifications to his new rectangular receiver and mounted it flush and SOLID with the top of his 43' boat. It works perfectly and he NEVER has to mess with the receiver/dish again. It's permanently mounted. If it interests you, let me know and I'll try to find the video that shows how he did it. It's really neat!
It’s actually 2nd generation tech and this has been the plan I’ve waited for. Everything improves with time, but this is where I wanted to jump on. I love it. Just need to mount it permanently
Man 5mbps is trash. Mine should be here tomorrow I’m a little east you south of ft worth. Can’t get a decent service exactly where I and was hoping this is the solution to stream Atleast Netflix. ☹️

We’ll keep in mind. I’m not in an active cell and and it’s the RV plan that has reduced speeds. I’ve been getting 20-50 Mbps for the last week. Our use case is more about using it in remote locations, not as a high speed home replacement. If you have a 250 Mbps service that is portable, unlimited and works anywhere, please let me know. I’ll buy it today.
all ya really need is a gamming router and cat 8 ether net cables 2 of them ... thats it then you could either use wifi or ethernet cable thru the gaming router we use a fast gaming router cuz its gonna give u the faster wifi speeds and hard wired ports funny how me and my friends are screaming at u brooo.... get the gaming routerrr!!! lol cuz your gonna have slow times without it
What we have is good enough for our needs. I’d rather go with enterprise equipment over a branded gaming router. With enterprise devices, you get all the QoS and tools you need to maximize performance. “Gaming” network equipment is mostly marketing with a few performance features.
true .. however... the only reason we use gaming router is to maximize the speed cuz then u are no longer relying on the skylink router only the asus gaming one u do notice a diffrence in the ping which is key. we are in the middle of the arizona desert boon docking getting like almost 300 dl and 21 upload using a echo flow max delta pro runing this stuff 24/7 with 400w of solar with ac on and so far so good. at night with no sun we fire up the wen 4k watt and it runs on propane. i guess what im saying is the ping is key 44 ping thats it

I had thoughts or getting it ordered in NH. But the problem would be moving it nearly daily. So this RV plan means I don’t have to fuss with it.

I saw somewhere that a company (Not starlink) is now making an RV antenna for Starlink. The antenna is permanent and fits an RV.
We are at the point of trying to get the cable to go through the RV wall and still be water tight. Have you any ideas?

I’ll be canceling my cell plan soon. Starlink has been working great, especially in active cells.

I think you can just add the RV service to home service. The gen 2 dishy is square. The original is round.

At what time in the video? I’m pretty sure I showed both.

Im confused 150 bucks a month for satellite internet that doesnt work everywhere??
It does work everywhere, but with various speeds.
First off it’s $135 a month NOT $150 guess reading WASN’T your strong point. It does work all over just like he said with different speeds.
How long did it take to get it?

Starlink..........I just watched a video of a couple on a power boat. Just in the past month he made some modifications to his new rectangular receiver and mounted it flush and SOLID with the top of his 43' boat. It works perfectly and he NEVER has to mess with the receiver/dish again. It's permanently mounted. If it interests you, let me know and I'll try to find the video that shows how he did it. It's really neat!

@@Stonyboot , apparently u can disable the motor and flat mount it on your roof. limits your position options obviously, but it's a clean install
I’ll have to check that out. I plan on a short telescoping pole. When I put it down, I’ll use stow mode and it will hang out until I turn it back on.
The 12 hours refers to the creation of the obstruction map.

It was about $600 for equipment and $135/month. 25 of that is the RV option.
I think I would wait awhile before I'd invest in that. It will only get better. My rule is never buy a 1st Generation anything.
It’s actually 2nd generation tech and this has been the plan I’ve waited for. Everything improves with time, but this is where I wanted to jump on. I love it. Just need to mount it permanently
Also get 2-3 mesh units from Starlink as well......... Huge difference as well on speeds!

I haven’t used it on the water, but I know many other people that have. Someone sells a flat mount designed for sailing.

Man 5mbps is trash. Mine should be here tomorrow I’m a little east you south of ft worth. Can’t get a decent service exactly where I and was hoping this is the solution to stream Atleast Netflix. ☹️
I love Starlink, but i still not get it here in Thailand, even the Satellites are not far away from our region. I am angry about this Government already and i want to brake free on this planet

150 a month for 5mbs geez. 250 mbs is the average low speed interment and it takes minutes to download anything. So 5mbs that’s not good.
We’ll keep in mind. I’m not in an active cell and and it’s the RV plan that has reduced speeds. I’ve been getting 20-50 Mbps for the last week.
Our use case is more about using it in remote locations, not as a high speed home replacement.
If you have a 250 Mbps service that is portable, unlimited and works anywhere, please let me know. I’ll buy it today.

Starlink? Absolutely the worst service I have ever received from any company, anytime, anywhere.

all ya really need is a gamming router and cat 8 ether net cables 2 of them ... thats it
then you could either use wifi or ethernet cable thru the gaming router
we use a fast gaming router cuz its gonna give u the faster wifi speeds and hard wired ports

What we have is good enough for our needs. I’d rather go with enterprise equipment over a branded gaming router. With enterprise devices, you get all the QoS and tools you need to maximize performance. “Gaming” network equipment is mostly marketing with a few performance features.

u do notice a diffrence in the ping

at night with no sun we fire up the wen 4k watt
and it runs on propane.

$135.00 per month is too expensive.
It’s not for everyone. It’s a core need for us, so it’s well worth it.
