  • In this video, I show you how I replaced the two engine cooling fan motors in my 2014 Chevy Caprice PPV.
I use my Autel MaxiSys MS906 scan tool to verify the functionality of the cooling fans.
The Chevy Caprice PPV engine can be idled for a large number of hours due to its police service duties. Idling the engine for extended periods of time can cause an excessive amount of wear on the engine cooling system fans. The two electric cooling fans used in the Chevy Caprice PPV can fail due to the large number of hours they may be required to run due to engine idling.
My 2014 Caprice PPV had one fan motor that did not work at all.

In this bulletin, it states the two electric motors used to drive the engine cooling fans should be replaced if they are found to be defective.

Nice info to have. Another thing to think about with these ex-police duty vehicles.

I clicked on Amazon link for that motor and it 's $60 and says "motor" so is it 60 bux each and I should buy 2 or does it come as a pair?
Also, it's asking to confirm transmission on 2012 Caprice and there are 2 options 6L80 and 6L45. I believe it has 6L80 but now I'm not sure. Where does that 6L45 come from, is there a chance mine has 45?
    Thanks

The quantity needed is two (2) for the fan motors. Both motors are the same. I see what you're stating about the Amazon "This fits your: ..." tool asking about a 6L45 transmission. I located a 2012 police upfitter's guide and it appears the 2012 Caprice with the 3.6L V6 engine has the 6L45 transmission, while the 6.0L V8 has the 6L80 transmission.
If you have the 6.0L V8 engine then the link I pointed to on Amazon should be the correct one per the GM part number and the ACDelco part number.
According to the acdelco.com website part lookup for the 2012 Caprice PPV with the 3.6L engine and the 6L45 transmission, it still uses the 15-81722 fan motor as well.
The GM special coverage adjustment document only lists one fan motor part number GM 22762591 (which is ACDelco 15-81722).
The ACDelco 15-81722 fan motor (qty 2) should be what you're looking for on your 2012 Caprice.

@@RetroCarGuy530 yes it's a V8 so this should be good for me, that makes sense. Thanks a lot for your response
