Wow...true love on screen and off. The most beautiful man ever; he loved the beautiful Olivia (and she him) all their lives. What a couple. He wanted to marry her so much; she wanted it too. 6-1/2 yrs. of their off-screen relationship. Just look at those kisses...oh, I wish they had married! You can see the love in both of them for each other; it's so sad they married others, I'm sure with remaining regret.

Beautiful piece - thanks for posting it. You know, it is funny -- I saw all these films during adolescence. At the time, I just took the love scenes as love scenes and nothing more. Now that I am older and wiser, I sense that Errol and Olivia were genuinely in love. I know that Errol was a rascal. But in looking at these photos and clips on RUclips, I believe that Olivia was the love of Errol's life. He deserves at least that much credit. And likewise, Errol was the love of Olivia's life. I wish Errol would have gotten his life straightened out and married Olivia. I think she was probably the right woman for him. So beautiful and yet so tragic -- Diane.
I am a man I was born in 1976 I saw Olivie de Havilland for the first time in the movie Captain Blood from 1935. Her appearance in the film was not only the appearance of an excellent actress but also an amazing beautiful girl when she was 19 years old she was young and beautiful actually hypnotized me You can it was possible to fall in love with her without memory at first sight. This film, due to her amazing beauty, not only spiritual, but also beauty, was deep in the mine mind. As soon as the news of her death appeared, I immediately remembered her actor creation in this film. Olivia was and still is a very smart lady. She knew if there was any kind of physical relationship, Flynn would eventually dump her and move on, but there was something there. When she was living in France, he once sought her out. He had so aged she barely recognized him. At a film fest featuring their pictures together, she had gotten up during They Died With Their Boots On for something and turned just as they were doing the big farewell scene where Armstrong knows he won't be coming back. At the moment when the bugles are blowing and he sweeps out of the room and the orchestra comes up and she goes into the big swoon, people who were near her saw her dissolve in tears.
I don't know of any other on screen couple that created the intense physical chemistry that Flynn and de Havilland did together on film. It wasn't sexual as much as it was romantic. I think that.we all would want to experience that in our lifetime.
They were too close to almost being like each other and they had too many coincidences in common.They did secretly love each other but they both knew it so it kept them apart.Other wise Errol would have carved a knotch on his belt for her.
