In bushland near my street in Tasmania, there's an old 40s Mercury sedan. Like this, it's unsalvageable. Teenage me in the 1980s was fascinated by it. You could discern details such as the (all broken) side windows used to be double-glazed. That car, and this '40 coupe make me think the same thing. Once, somebody walked into a dealership and bought this car new. It was somebody's pride and joy back then. This was the final stop on a road eighty years long.
Rebuilt a simmilar coupe years ago,,, bottom foot of the sheetmetal gone ,,, decided to cut it up a bit,,, put sedan doors on it, rounded the rear window frames, shortened the quarter panels 6 inches,, sectioned the body 2 inches chopped the top 2 inches, channeled over the frame 2 inches,, deleted the running boards , wheel well headers poking out under the front fenders ,,,radiused the wheelopenings,,,, shortened the trunk lid, frenched a license plate pocket in the rear pan,,,, it now looks a bit like a choppd Willis coupe ,,,,
It's a shame but best I think..I usually want all old cars saved and I love 40 fords, but it's maybe just too far gone, and if it's parts help towards saving other 40s then it didn't die in vain... Rob UK
I've had my '38 Olds for almost 12 years. If it weren't for other '38's being broken down and parted out, then I would be left with pretty much an empty shell and missing half of the car. In the end that shell of a car will be a valuable part of someone's search for that long lost, hard to find, original Ford sheet metal part needed for their cars restoration. One clapped out car gives it's parts and pieces to save on another car in need.
Personally, as rough as it is I would probably try and save it, but then I'm in the UK and 40 Ford coupes are very rare here and very expensive. Having said that, I just got to the part of the video where I saw how bad the frame was rotted out, so maybe not🙃
Shipping containers are terrible for storing cars in. If vents aren’t cut into them there ends up being so much condensation in them it will literally rain inside them especially in humid areas. Good job saving what could be saved, a far better option than it going to the crusher
When I look at a car like that my first thought is, 'How many people can this car make happy if it was parted out vs, the money it would cost to bring it back to life? Part it out!
Fewer and fewer of these old cars around. Eventually they will all be found and used up. Shame this one rotted in a container, but good that you saved what could be saved.
You can find parts still remanufactured if you look hard enough classic industries may have a book what I mean is they may have a catalog on classic vehicles you never know I remember seeing it somewhere if not there's a couple of junk yards in Arizona they may have old-school reproduction parts and original parts
To bad it was in such rough shape you had to cut it up, I bought a 1938 Dodge coupe a few months ago it's 100 percent complete and in pretty good shape, I wish I lived closer to you and have you help me build i
Can't believe you guys didn't restore that! Thing was practically mint! Have you ever heard of Fiberglass? Out here in boat country, that shit is everywhere. We use it to fix rust, just like that! Guaranteed to never rust again!
That's definitely the right call! Sometimes they're just simply too far gone like this one, and the parts would be better off going towards keeping other cars/projects going instead.
That car very restorable, even as a reproduction race car which it looks like it spent some time as. Hey, they aren't making any new 1940 Fords any more.
that car is a fixer a good body man like me could nock that out i have too many projects they make a rear pnl some sheet steel for the floor OHIOhotrod
My '39 was in a similar state but had a coat of shiny paint >it was my only driver back then and had been a hillclimb, circuit ,dirt track race car. All of the holes made it lighter and fast.... Why not build a dirt track/road car out of it? You could have done this 😁😁 :ruclips.net/video/sALC-Afm9SY/видео.html
Looks like Moon gets more excited over old Fords than the rest of the team combined.

Not its final stop. Next time we see this, it's going to be the metal bits on a 2025 Hyundai.
true mate !!!!!!! makes something else live . anyone want to buy a early lh torrie ?
There used to be a 36 ford sedan wreck,-at Fingal-Tassie,-I got a nice steering wheel of it,-But the Council got rid of the rest of it !!
My goodness Matt and Team, you guy's picked that thing clean like a school of piranhas ! well done
Oh dude, we would've saved that car here in the UK...these old Fords are like unicorns here.
"Our first fire of the day"! Great line, Matt.
Thank you Matt , Mike and Steve for saving what could be used to save other old Fords !
Nice job capturing usable parts
Great call to cut it up, I'm pretty sure the ITG executive officer Moon made that call.🤔
Nice shot of the new 32 in the background ❤
"I think we're gonna take this thing apart. We have the saws-all, plasma cutter, DYNAMITE!"
CAN YOU MAKE AN OLD SCHOOL DIRT TRACK STOCK CAR OUT OF IT? WOULD BE VERY COOL PROJECT!
Not any more….
Sure enough!@@mattskustomkreations
@@WilliamNast-v1g Ha ha! I think it is only old school dirt now.

excellent candidate to create a tribute to the old timey circle track racers.
A rusty ford coupe sitting in the front yard sounds more like a life goal to me 👍
Any old car videos that I see and they have a dog the dog gets very excited to search the interior of the vehicle. Lots of good smells
Save it!
Love 40 Ford's, gonna be beautiful
Couldn't cut it up ! It make a beautiful Yard ornament thou 😂👍
save the door hinges? ash trays and dash too? front end and engine, trans and diff. the rest off to the crusher.
It's a shame but best I think..I usually want all old cars saved and I love 40 fords, but it's maybe just too far gone, and if it's parts help towards saving other 40s then it didn't die in vain... Rob UK
Nothing is too far gone!
Better shape than mine. Has the frame and flatty.
Moon-dog was really into the coupe.
I'll bet that car was already rough when it was put in the container.👍👍🇨🇦
“We’ll build her back stronger, faster better! Oh who am I fooling too much rust just cut it up and we’ll make our money back in old parts.”
Parts is Parts!
Wait for the “They all should be saved!! How dare you!!!” Lol

Matt I was wondering what happened to that 36 3 window coupe you bought, will we be seeing it soon?
Sold it. Will be going to visit it here soon
M 00 n did an excellent inspection on this vehicle

Just replace the frame
Some assembly required
@@garycamara9955replace with what, he would have to make it from scratch sense it's a rarity in his neck of the woods!
thats what I was thinking...al lot of the parts are available aftermarket.
@@danielpaulsness6951 there are manufactures that make the sheet metal for '40 fords..a lot of the parts are available.
The ITG pickup could do with your metalwork skills on the rear arches ! Pay back a loyal employee 😁
Saved my 48 chevy . Didn’t look much better than your ford.
Please save it. Here in California that would be a builder not a parts car. 40Fords bring big money here !!!!!

Everything is saveable
Just think 40 years ago pop the glass put in a roll cage and she'd be ready for one of the heats at Grandview Speedway on Saturday nite.
Hate to see a coupe go under the torch. But, if it saves another, then the sacrifice wasn't in vain.
Evidently you guys are unaware of the talant out there. 😦
Fewer and fewer of these old cars around. Eventually they will all be found and used up. Shame this one rotted in a container, but good that you saved what could be saved.
You shoulda given it to Steve for HIS project car. You'd be guaranteed he'd be with you forever until it was done.
thats an opera coupe, pretty cool
Nice
Moon Dog is such A "HAM"
A good project chop the top fill in the windows and make it a three window coupe. It would be something to stretch your skills and imagination.
MIKE AND MATT COULD RACE IT AT VINTAGE RACES!
You got enough parts to make your own 5 window coop
Cool😊
Man matt that a perfect candidate for a mild lead sled ......from george the old chevyoligst
They make almost everything for those cars, aftermarket. You shouldn't have cut the old girl up😢

A true hotrodder would never repair his vintage car with fiberglass
@vonbuzz9009 whoosh. That one went right over your head.
That's definitely the right call! Sometimes they're just simply too far gone like this one, and the parts would be better off going towards keeping other cars/projects going instead.
Worth more in pieces than whole
Save.
Dont wreck it moon love s that car lol
Part it out!
If it came with a title, that"s worth more than the car. You can buy a complete brand new 40 Ford body
Keep it man!
Save save save. Make it a dirt track racer
You can pit the Swampzilla 39 Merc body on it
Ive cut up cars myself and saws all was the fastest and cheapest way for me, I only broke one blade.
Save the best
hey Matt you need a vintage race car good donor body
Moooooooon!!!
Matt please fix it your talented enough. Mark Fowler
Don't cut anything until you see the 53 Packard hardtop I'm going to turn into a roadster ~ the HACKARD shall live.
That car very restorable, even as a reproduction race car which it looks like it spent some time as. Hey, they aren't making any new 1940 Fords any more.
I would get out the mig welder and save it just to make a vintage dirt track car but that's just me
That’s no worse than some you’ve worked on ❤
How to dismantle a ‘40 Ford 101. Lol
Would you consider selling the trunk support springs?
Yep! Send an email to: irontrapgarage@gmail.com
Very Good!... #110 ✝ {9-16-2023}
He probably lost half of the bodywork while driving to your place 😂😂 she is toasty.
Save
Pretty daunting job if you were going to save it. Probably for the best, if it donates parts to other projects.
Was the motor realy stuck
That was rough.
Vintage modified circa 1970 fur sure!
I what it!#!!!
Chop shop time 😂
How about a rat rod with a wire whisker front bumper? Lol
Make it live
make it into a circle car tribute dirt one preferably
Make a street modified out of its
It would make a GREAT repro early "stock car".
Crap ,save,,I say keep and build
I guess I should of watched the whole video first before I posted my last comment. 😂 lol

Well, I guess it's cut it up before you even looked at the comments.
If I weren’t 2000 miles away and they Xmember was salvageable.
Unfortunately you can't save them all.
Where's Steve's hot rod?🤔
Fix it!… or give it to Mike???
Poor old 40
Not Even a Bad fixer upper ☠️😞😩😩🇭🇲😫
Nice Video.

Looks like the Tetanus-mobile…
Just the frame is shot
Refurbish mechanicals…hang old sheet metal…drive. Oh, and install a old looking SBC.
