My employer got me a convertible standing desk and it is amazing! I was actually suffering from a pinched nerve in my back from writing code for 8-10 hours a day with my head too far forward and poor posture. Now I stand all day and love it! No more back pain and much healthier overall. You do have to develop the stamina to stand all day long though but doesn't take long. 💪👌

I purchased my 1st computer desk in around 1988. To go with my brand new Commodore C64 computer (I still own the C64 and set it up every now and then too). I still have that desk to this day, basic particle board construction and a hutch. I use it has my modeling desk and work desk now. The desk sits next to my 3D printer in my Hobbie room. It is my main production point for my RUclips modeling videos. I think the Desk might be older than a lot of the people that watch your videos :)

Synctoy actions can be added to Task Scheduler allowing it to be automated to point.

FYI on desks... Ulimate Support makes a nice modular system for content creators (Nucleus). You can get a base desk, and in rack cabinets (for rack mounted CPU, Audio Interface, etc), on desk rack-space, elevated shelf for monitor, studio monitors, etc..

One time we had a dog walker come in while my sister's dog was still a puppy. When he left he wasn't sure if the dog should be put in the crate or left out, so rather than use caution and crate the dog, he left her out. She ended up eating an entire TV remote, and part of an xbox controller. She ate like 4 AA batteries, and was fine in the end. We took her to the vet (which the dog walking company ended up paying for, in addition to the damaged items) but she was completely fine. They put her on some medication as a precaution... but even with 4 AA batteries worth of battery acid in her stomach she was completely fine.

FreeFileSync is my preferred syncing program for my USB. Previously it used to be Bamboo File Sync which can sync automatically but I find FreeFileSync's UI more intuitive as you can see which file will be copy to/from or deleted before you initiate the sync.

Instead of adding a faux wood plastic cover for the white desk. How about a nice thin piece of stain wood on top of the Snubs desk?

SyncThing is free & open source and automatic. It does all that and works on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, etc.

@@SystemsPlanet That depends on your program and if both syncs are on at the same time.

I don't trust Huawei at all, but I have heard a lot about this laptop lately. I have had to clean up a Linux bootloader on an EFI boot before, because windows updates wrecked the partition. As I needed to continue working, the quickest method I knew of at the time to return to a usable state was to fix windows boot until I could get time to sort the Linux install. I have found better solutions to this now(live cd, chroot, reinstall grub), but at the time I didn't know about them.

Patrick, at some point you recommended "Create Synchronicity." I dumped SyncToy then, and I never looked back. It's Lightweight, with the same functionality, but the built-in option for automatic syncing. I'm a convert.

Motorised desks (not necessarily standing desks) are also good when you have more than one person uses the desk. Proper ergonomic setup helps reduce strains and pains.

For testing purposes running Ubuntu from a thumb drive works very well.

No pictures but my setup is a volair sim cockpit in front of a 100" projector. I have both a force feedback racing wheel and my HOTAS setup installed there. Realistically I spend more time playing with a laptop on the kitchen table while the pet ferrets play around my feet.

Re: returning of review model laptops/systems
Always check with the entity that issued the laptop to you. They may/should have a re-image policy on return, and the time you spend to get it back to original may be unnecessarily wasted. After all, if it is a review model then it is up to them to ensure it is in the best state for the next reviewer.

As for fixing the Master Boot Record on a Windows device I've used an installer disk but selected the repair option which simply wrote a new MBR without doing a full reinstall.

Ubuntu and most Linux distributions replace the windows boot loader is replaced by the Linux boot loader called GRUB.

    • @TrevorJoynson
      @TrevorJoynson 5 лет назад

They don't replace it actually on computers from the last decade, it merely copies an EFI bootloader *side by side* in parallel into the same exact vfat EFI partition that any OS uses. All you have to do is change the default boot option in your BIOS. That's it. This is one of the many benefits of EFI.

Also, for syncing, synctoy is kind of trash, look into syncthing -- it's open source, secure, cross platform, super fast, supports versioning, and even works on your [Android] phone. If you are syncing local only on a single computer to itself (ie an external or internal drive) why aren't you just backing up? Smh

Hi Tekthing crew, can i get some suggetions and things cleared up? my computer will be remote located up high in the closet. Cable run is about 15 ft (desk is actually fairly close to closet). to minimize cables I was thinking 1 hdmi or display port and 1 usb 3. a powered hub at the desk and usb DAC for audio. Will usb 2 devices degrade throughput of usb 3 like 1.1 did to 2.0 back in the day? Should I run an audio cable and save the $100ish dollars for a DAC? I will be upgrading the computer to ryzen 7 3000 series later this year when it comes out (currently i7 7700k).

If a USB1.1 device slowed down your USB 2.0 hub, it was because you had an inferior USB2.0 hub. Good ones had a multi transaction translator. Of course, it would be too simple in life if it was easy to tell how a hub would work out before buying it. In USB3.0, USB2.0 still operates in parallel (the USB3 portion uses new pins added to the connectors), so no slow down worries there. You will probably need to use a externally powered hub due to your cable lengths. Likewise, you will need a special HDMI cable for that length. Don't spend $100 on a USB DAC unless you really want to. Since you seem to consider the motherboard audio to be a valid option, there is no reason to consider a $30 Behringer UCA202 to be perfectly good for playback. Personally, I use optical output on one computer (that doesn't show up much anymore though), a more professional USB audio device (made by Line6) on one computer for my guitar and keyboard, and UCA 202s on the two other PCs.
