02:10 Elementary OS, Athena EOS 3 Silent PC
We review a lot of systems from Dell, Lenovo, and other major mfg, but we're always up for seeing what boutique PC makers are doing, so when Athena Computer reached out to ask if we'd like to review a silent PC running Elementary OS, their EOS 3, Patrick said, "sure!" Reviews of the machine and the OS in the video!

18:34 BATTLESTATION!!!
Eric's got a battlestation he also considers as Doing Something Analog... he writes, “After spending too much time at my old corner desk I decided to create a new space in my office. Taking a little inspiration from vintage aviation, I built the suspended shelves & desk. I need to spend more time organizing but I have a great place to show off my Ryzen build.” Thanks, Eric!
20:01 Fix Blurry Apps in Windows 10!
John's having problems with Windows 10, a hi-res monitor, and apps that look blurry. He’s let Windows try to fix it… which didn’t. We’ve got some more ideas, and an app, XPExplorer Windows 10 DPI Fix, for him to try out!

22:56 Your Hotspot Responses
Last week we talked about hotspots for international travel. Mike emailed to tell us about his the (extensive!) problems he had trying to use Skyroam Solis, while Harry reminded us that FreedomPop is still out there!

24:35 Thanks Hak5!!!
A big thanks to Hak5 for the studio space! Check out the security and privacy podcasts at hak5.org .. then head over to hak5.org/gear/ such and check out the Plunder Bug… a pocket-sized LAN Tap that lets you "bug" Ethernet connections with USB-C convenience!

24:58 Do Something Analog
Like rebuild your brakes!!! Patrick is dealing with the joy of replacing rotors and calipers on a 2nd gen Dodge Cummins. (Hint: he owns his own 20 ton shop press just so he can work on those brakes!) Also, anti-seize and lube for the win!

Sounds like You guys haven't tried Lutris and Proton gaming on Linux. Sure it's not a 1:1 Windows gaming experience (yet), but damn Patrick, that was a bit harsh considering how much progress has been made in the past couple of years. Plus there are quite a bit of games that run natively through Steam or in the repos that run great and are fun to play. Maybe look at Lutris and the ProtonDB and some sites specific to Linux Gaming and give them a fair unbiased try. You might even Like it! :-)
Don't get me wrong, I'm a Windows gamer (only reason I keep Windows - the devs for some of the tools I use for game modding explicitly stated they won't support Linux EVER).
Don, I will dig deep into Lutris and Proton, but for what it's worth, for most folks new to Linux, the gaming experience is not what they're used to on Windows! Can you email ask@tekthing.com? Be easier to talk more there! -Patrick
Great show! ✌️
Gaming on Linux doesn't suck these days. Valve has been actively working on making gaming on Linux as seamless as gaming on windows with proton, and even contributing back to wine. Many windows only games run just as well on Linux with little effort to get running through Steam Play.
Per my response to Don, I'll be checking out Lutris and Proton... looking forward to seeing if I can get my favorites to run! -Patrick
Shanon, I know you're not fond of your natural curls (very observent fan of your channel), but I love it!
Makes her look like an old woman.
For blurry apps, don't forget to drive down into the application settings and see what font/display options there might be. For example, lot of IDEs/Editors will have options to display a larger font. With scaling off, and the text size set larger than the default, the buttons and icons will still be tiny, but as a Sys Admin + Developer, that's ideal for me since it gives me legibility but also minimizes how much space the toolbars take away from the area where I'm doing actual work.
Another great show, thanks.
Thank you!
One user once said that if you learn to command on Linux you understand what your actually doing on your computer versus Bill leading you along and calling back to someone about what your doing. I agree but you have to practice.
Patrick you disappoint my inner linux child. If I can play Overwatch, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider and GTA5 on Slackware with out alot of messing about expect for compiling packages which you dont have to worry about if your not using Slackware but say Debian then you can have a pretty close to windows gaming experience with out even rebooting.
I have been intensely educated on the latest in Linux gaming this week. Mea culpla. I'll be doing a segment on Linux Gaming shortly that I hope you'll approve of. -Patrick
Gaming does not suck on Linux, actually. Thanks to Wine as well as Steam and Proton, gaming on Linux is actually better than gaming on Mac today, I would say, and close enough (for me) to gaming on Windows. In fact, I think some games run better, especially older games.
Elementary OS isn't bad, though I still miss PearOS (which was much closer to being a MacOS clone in regards of the UI/UX).
I was all about livebooting Puppy Linux for a long time! -Patrick
Patrick I have to disagree with you that gaming on Linux sucks. I think it comes down to the preference you have in games. This is no different than the console vs PC argument. Yes it's your opinion and this happens to be mine. I run Linux as my daily driver and belong to a large world wide Linux community. As a matter of fact if you are ever so inclined, reach out to Rocco at Big Daddy Linux and drop in to his live weekly show on Saturday nights. You can chat with users from all over the world. They range from newer users right up to developers including Alan Pope who makes quite a few appearances even though it's the we hours of the morning. I have followed you for years since Screensavers and love your shows!
I've gotten some great responses on this one, Joe, and I'm learning. Question: what are your favorite games on Linux??? -Patrick
On the Arsenal - if all the camera settings were available from your phone on a official app, would this solve your studio issues?
Hey? Last week you talked about having a desktop speaker segment THIS week... but nope? I'm in desperate need of some advice on some audiophile-y desktop speakers...
I did talk about speaker last week... next week I'll be talking about some powered speakers. (Speakers w/ amps built in.) Trying to do some latency testing before that roundup goes live! -Patrick
Patrick and his affinity for weasels 😄😄😄😄
Netgear nighthawk m1 best travel modem there is full stop
I've clicked a few times on Linux related content from this channel.
However each time I do, I find that the information shared is not accurate and is more like someone putting Linux on a computer for an hour and then complaints about it not working exactly like there previous OS.
Of cause you can produce any content you like, I'm just questioning why you cover Linux at all of your not actually invested in it at all (not saying you need to all be Linux gurus but at least have one researcher that actually keeps up to date with the information).
as for the weasels i didn't see a picof the latest one from the oval office....Hmmm

Been watching you since techtv days through tekzilla days and up until now and I find it sad that you don't have ten times the subscribers you do. Also followed Shannon from early twit through now, I'm just sad and you're not much further ahead of the game. And sorry that's it's a game at all.
Well said!
I can't believe you are recommending noobs spend 1500 dollars on a Linux machine lol - What planet are you on?
By the way, i run Elementary in a VM - nice Linux OS (my opinion)
I didn't recco noobs spend $1500 on a Linux machine. I pointed out that $1500 was a lot of money for -any- pc. This one just happened to be pre-loaded w/ Elementary OS. -Patrick
@@kayferrari5361 I do like Elementary... it's super clean.
The whole elementary OS idea kind of takes things back to a failed idea from many years ago. It was called lindo's. It was crap, expensive to use, and pushed as an operating system alternative to Windows. But it was crap. Yes, it was Linux! But it was shareware garbage!
