13:50 In 2019, Should We Use Antivirus Software???
Terry, aka @GothamHeightsTX tweeted, “In 2019, should we use antivirus software? I usually use nothing or Microsoft's baked in software for PC's?” Most folks we know just run Windows Defender. Patrick will at Bitdefender when he’s paranoid, with the occasional Malwarebytes Free scan. You had quite a bit to add!

27:04 Linux Gaming: Mea Culpa
Patrick said, “Linux gaming still sucks” during his review of the Elementary Linux OS on Athena Computers silent pc… Don, Ze Gecko, Bartdogger, Joe, and Rob gave us a pretty intense update on Proton, Lutris, what’s going on with Stream, running Windows games on Linux, and, well, a lot more. Patrick will be doing a Linux Gaming segment soon!
30:19 Do Something Analog!
Like Komei, who writes, “I recently came across this tutorial video on how to print pictures on a stone and I tried it myself.” He says, “The result looks cool. The best part is it will only cost you $10 or so if you already have an access to a laser printer.” A very cool use of Modge Podge, thanks Komei!

Gotta work on that camera focus...
Camera focus should have been locked down/manual, but I accidentally put it into autofocus mode. My apologies. - Patrick
the mic on the 3a sounds pretty dadgum good. WOW.
Good info on antivirus. I wonder how many of us have gone to Windows defender, and yes, Malwarebytes for garbage cleanup. Good review on the Pixel 3a too!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@Tekthing Thanks!
Great show as always! ✌️
First time, overall excellent show and stunning reviews... I subscribed your channel. You guys are awesome.
"Things that make fire"
Warms my heart :)
my 3a arrives today, I can't wait!!!!
Let us know what you think of it!
u will love it
@@Tekthing Lets try this again. I am not new to Android but this was the easiest most complete phone transfer I have ever had. The adapter lets you transfer all your data from the old phone over the usb. The camera is awesome as advertised. Battery life so far has been good. Been an ASUS fanboy since the ZenFone Laser 2. At the 399, (also have the 100 google store credit) I can become a Pixel fanboy.
Patrick, you didn't "screw up", it was just a slightly outdated look at gaming on non-Windows systems. We all learn new things all the time. I rally appreciate what you all do. Keep up the great work. Also, thanks for the shoutout.
Oh, I think I screwed up, didn't take any offense, there's a ton to learn. Seriously, appreciate your taking the time, and thank you for watching! -Patrick
Did they ever address why their no longer at the Hak5 Studio?
In the comments of the last video there was a comment from Patrick *"Probably a transitional one... Hak5 is relocating their offices, so we needed a new place to shoot TekThing. Glad you liked it! - Patrick"*
Additionally, when asked where the last video (and this one now) was shot, we were told *My living room, actually. Same lights, but set to different temperature, closer to 5200K. Not nearly as red. - Patrick*
@@illkitty Didn't they just move into the last studio like 6 months ago ?
@@matthewkerr3972 I think it was more like a year ago. - Patrick
Many people can "afford" a $1000 phone, but do not believe there is enough value in a $1000 phone. I personally look for features per dollar, best value.
Interesting point.
Really there is little value in a $400 phone for a lot of people. Compare this to a Moto G7 or other and there will only be minor differences
@@CJonestheSteam72 I have a Moto G5, it does everything that I need. I can afford a $1,000 phone, but I don't want one.
Great episode guys!
I don't understand how people are still using third party av. Always felt third party av did nothing but bloat and slow your PC. Especially in the early 2000s. Nothing beats smart internet habits though. I run windows, Mac and Linux, never had to worry on Mac and Linux. When windows released security essentials a decade ago, pretty much don't worry anymore. If anything happens, it's on me.
Windows defender is weak
Great Video guys. Keep up the good work.
Thanks!
Another good show, now I will be testing my USB cables for how fast they charge.
Excellent!
As for security, my go is for at least have one Windows Defender at least + any malware + a secure router that can have firewall and traffic cleaning solution.
Yeah. I'm still not sold on Windows Defender unless it's tweaked heavily. When or if scans occur, the performance hit is brutal. My go to is typically Bitdefender or Malwarebytes.
I quite like the new "studio" look, yes less "professional" but tbh I like the more homely look as it kind of suits the nature of the show
It's homely because it is Patrick's living room haha, I like it as well but I bet his wife doesn't!
2nd! Never enough outlets!!!!!! I keep a small extension cord / splitter with me.
Patrick, can't keep my eyes off the Elacs in the back. Have you talked about them on beginner audiophile or AVexcel I can check out?
I was just about to pull the trigger on the pixel 3a, but noticed that in the specs that Dlna is not in the specs of the phone, can you confirm that Dlna is gone?
Thanks for a great video!
Jim
Given the price, could you do a comparison on the OnePlus but also the Moto G7 or Moto One, is the leap from $200 to $400 honestly worthwhile
Still on Windows 7, using Avast.
thought current devices can flip from 110 to 220 without a voltage adapter. Kept hearing that you just needed plug adapters. Is that not the case?
Security Question: Can you create 2 accounts on a Windows 10 machine - one with Admin rights and the other for your daily use that is not open to virus/infection that could attack if using an Admin account?
Since most of us will probably put our phone in a case, does it really matter if the case is polycarbonate?
What happened to Hak5 and the studio space. Was there a falling out?
Not at all! Hak5 moved offices, and there's no longer a Hak5 studio. Hard to shoot someplace that doesn't exist anymore! -Patrick
@@Tekthing I like the new space! Looks good on camera.
I think it’s best that you don’t have a ‘falling out’ with Hak5. Hell hath no fury like a hacker scorned.
@@Tekthing Good to hear. Sorry you had to spend all that time getting the set just right only to have to move though.
Can you charge the Pixel 3A with the USB A -> USB C cable if it came down to it in a pinch, even if very slowly..?
how this pixel 3a is compared with some simiral priced NOKIA phones?
I have a white lightning cable, red and grey USB-C and black micro USB leads, easier than labels

I disable WD and use only the paid version of Malwarebytes. Have been using it for the last 5 years. It is especially handy when you are cruising certain websites especially believe it or not recipe sites that are chock full of ads and pup style garbage.
Thanks for sharing!
I feel like the Rode mic and 3a internal mic sounded very very similar. Also, I didn't like the way they [Rode and 3a] sounded. Much too treble-y. I feel like your voice sounded smoother and more natural on the original 3XL internal mic.
Yeah... I took my eyebrows off messing with black powder once, not fun.
Owch... powder burns are awful. -Patrick
I just run windows defender
Well the Nexus 4 was 400 and it had wireless charging and NFC.
3a still has NFC.
