    Amen to pacing yourself. I worked in a warehouse that was heavy on getting these impossible numbers and the more you strived to get those numbers, the more they kept raising the bar! It got to the point where I finally realized that I was giving 150+% and they kept wanting, or should I say, DEMANDING I keep meeting those new numbers to the extent that I couldn't consistently do those numbers everyday that they then started threatening me with write ups and points if I couldn't or didn't make those numbers from the day before. I started getting written up for "job performance" or "quantity" or "quality" issues.
    So needlessly to say, I got severe job burnout from them demanding that I work like a Hebrew slave.
    Mentally, physically and spiritually exhausted to the point I just couldn't do it no more. They kept squeezing blood out of a turnip and once the blood was no longer, they continued to squeeze and squeeze to no end in sight.
    So ever since then, I made a vow to myself I'm going to give 100% like I always do but I will never cast pearls to swine again. They don't appreciate it. Matter of fact, I means nothing to them. All they care about are the numbers. I understand there is a quota to meet but when others are just standing around not doing anything, they will make you take up their slack and work you to death if you let them.
    Moral of the story:
    You do the best you can do and if that isn't good enough for them, then you really don't want to work for those kind of people anyway...
    If everybody would just pull their own weight, it would make everyone's job ALOT more enjoyable!

    Anyone watching this, I had feet pain for nearly 10 years working in retail that never got better no matter what shoes or insoles I wore. The first 2 weeks after I received a pair of professional orthotic insoles, the feet pain was gone. Any shoe was comfortable, no more sore/throbbing feet after a long day or tight calves when walking for a few minutes. Work was easy and efficient, it wasn't a chore anymore. The chance you can afford it, which is highly expensive here in Australia for the office I went to but about roughly 40% can be deducted by private health insurance at $900AUD ($820 for assessment, scan, fitting and the insole itself, $80 for the appointment), I HIGHLY recommend going to an Podiatrist and getting custom made Orthotic insoles. It's expensive but it's worth it over the amount of different shoes I wasted money on trying to solve the issue myself.

      @HumanEncoded  Год назад +1

      This is great advice!
      $800 AUD convert to roughly $585 dollars USD which is still pricey for some shoe inserts.

      I work as a temp at a warehouse. It’s not my first rodeo at a warehouse. I used to bust my ass but found out the hard way it wasn’t worth it. These companies don’t give a flying fuck about you. Now I take it easy and go to the restroom to take breaks in between my usual breaks. I literally don’t care about working. I do the bare minimum and at least I’m not feel as drained afterward. One of my last jobs the manager and assistant manager treated you like a slave. I used to yell at them, got written up once for yelling at the assistant manager, and just quit one day. I did decide to give them a letter of resignation but didn’t give them a two weeks notice. This one other job I just walked off after I collected my paycheck.

    To add something to number 3: its not that you dont have to be fast, just dont be exhausted. Reason: when you get too tired, even if you push yourself, you got something monoton, and your thinking slows down. Why it is important? Because until you work w 110%, someone else with calm, fresh thinking can make the same job lot faster than you, with minimal effort. Remember: in logistics you also have to work with your head.
    Also if it happens, just try to copy what the other guy/girl doing, and look if its fit for you.

    Bro, you nailed every tip. The warehouse i work in is so on budget. We drag a heavy pallets with rusted old pallet jacks, we stay overtime, because there isn't enough people and the orders need to be done, so the drivers can deliver at morning. The space is so packed, i can barely pull down a pallet from a high shelf with a pallet stacker and we have no POS, we stil use pen and paper and shopping cards. I have bought gloves, highest class safety shoes, Milwaukee Fastback, box cutter, anti cut gloves, because the boxes cut and work clothes all with my own money. The company provides clothing, but if you ask for it and is the cheapest on the market, so i just said no and bought my own. The only good thing is good pay, no POS, and 8 hour work shift with 2 days off during weekends, other then that is misery, but i somehow stay already 8 months, and i'm the youngest in that place. Most 22 yr stay a day and never come back, but i have goals in life, so i keep pushing.

      Tbh. Just go to the post office. Amazon benefits are not that great and the company sucks as a whole and don’t care about their workers. At least they can’t fire you for stupid reasons at the post office bc you’re protected by a union. After a year or two depending on need at your location you can be a regular career employee with actual benefits and higher pay. Raises every year. More paid time off. Shoot there are some people who are hired right into career getting benefits. They hire from within FIRST. If you get in and don’t like your job you can apply for another position and location. And work until they move you. You get a week break in between switching jobs. Trust me. It’s still gonna be hard work but people need to tech those younger than them about working smarter not harder. Work for a place that actually gives you something in return. Not just a job.

I was able to work at auto sort with friends or manual sort. Not to mention that everyone I knew worked there! Definitely one of the best work experiences of my life. I mean yeah there was drama within the work place but I never got involved! I just worked with my friends and enjoyed back then the freedom that the warehouse gave. It was definitely a jovial atmosphere even during peak season! And working with HIM made everything better. I just smile as I remember the early parts of our relationship because it had a lot to do with Amazon ❤ From losing gloves all the time to rushing to clock out when the PA's would yell VTO. It’s not lazy it’s knowing your worth. Warehouse jobs need to start at least 20 an hour for the hours they work you and how much on your body it is. I don’t disagree bc I looked for months for a job that wasn’t minimum wage. Found the post office. Got in thru the warehouse. I’ll work the holiday season then move on to a different position that pays more and it’s not the warehouse. They pay us so much less than the others as an MHA (warehouse) it’s crazy the work we do. BUT during the holiday season the overtime makes it worth it. Only way I’m making it thru is knowing that it’s temporary and everything else is nice it’s quiet there and they don’t micromanage at my location. Just my body feels horrid at the end of the day. That check with be worth it tho! Better than minimum wage. Next position I’ll be making more doing less.

      But most of all don't over work yourself.

    I don't like the shoes from Zappos with the steel toes because it puts too much pressure on your feet.

      I never had to purchase steel toe shoes at Amazon & FedEx but I can see how some could be uncomfortable with the lack of cushion around your toe area.

    The warehouse I work at is usps and I like everything but how my feet and legs feel at the end of the day. We are go getters in my family so sometimes it’s hard not to overdo it at work but I def need to. It’s never that serious lol

    Is it best to give your 110% a few hours before your work shift ends? You might as well have consistency on your side every day or it may backfire on you.

    • @HumanEncoded
      @HumanEncoded  Год назад +1

      I can respect your approach to working warehouse jobs.
      Not giving 110% does not mean being lazy, it just means pacing yourself and not overworking yourself.
      You only get one body and once you are damaged goods, you will eventually be replaced.

  • @roserainbird2365
    @roserainbird2365 2 года назад +9

    “I feel like you can last longer if you don’t go 110 the whole time” (dirty jokers stop laughing 😏😂) but seriously there have been many studies on this, from companies who offer employees longer breaks, to countries who on average work less hours than the UK and USA. They all show how much more work the employees get done when they’re well rested and not over worked.
    People think more hours more money and forget humans and human and are not robots.
    I’m looking to open a warehouse in the future and this video is genuinely helpful for future bosses, not just employees, thank you 👏🏻

      And what boggles my mind they have the nerve to call you on your day off to work when your the main truck unloader lol
      I was fine with it as a seasonal worker b/c I did need the money and was trying to impress the managers. But once I was permanent I started to tell them no. They always talk about safety hazards, but overworking us to death is an exception. I also think jobs that refuse Overtime are the most healthy places to work in.

    Any job that has automatic conveyors for freight to move down is a blessing. I would unload double trucks with 0 complaints
    I left Target b/c the hours were just not a living wage at all, I was only a truck slave to them. Had to unload all the trucks pushing shit down at the same time b/c others were too lazy and just stood in their spot. I rather wear boots b/c your shoes will get beat up overtime very easily.

    Working 10 years in the warehouse that I’m at now I can tell you that yes it is very essential to bring all of your materials with you
    1. we have to have backpacks that you can see through but I stuffed mine with my meals and markers cutting knives aspirin I’m a walking medicine cabinet
    I always tell people that a carpenter needs a hammer and nails to do his job and we need the proper footwear you need inserts for your shoes if you’re going to be on the floor all day and compression socks help a lot I also use compression leggings underneath my jeans for 12 hour shifts
    On my days off I also stay active so that I don’t go in the first day of the week and not have myself flexible and ready to do what I have to do for the day I’m not stiff when I walk into work
    Understand the different managers have different styles to the way that they manage some like to use the carrot and inspire you to do good work and some like to use the stick and try to intimidate you to do good work so when you understand your manager and how they try to approach managing then you learn not to take it so personal
    This does not need to be said but don’t think that working through your break is going to earn you any extra credit you need to take your breaks and not think that any warehouse Job is going to appreciate you for going above and beyond because most of the time they look at you as if you are cattle and if you leave there’s two more to take your place so going above and beyond might sound good but management will start to expect that from you so I always take your breaks
    The days of “work hard,go far” is pretty much gone (8/10 times it’s about who you know… most of the time management already has an idea of who they are going to promote depending on if they like you or not before you even have the interview so don’t think that going above and beyond is going to really get you anywhere unless you are willing to play office politics [Being known as the “Workhorse” might sound good but once management starts seeing you as that workhorse they will prevent you from leaving their dept. because your production #’s are actually MAKING THEM LOOK GOOD to the higher ups and they will try to squeeze more out of you] being the Workhorse is a double edged sword 🗡
    Do your share and make the money but you are not INDEBTED to them & don’t let them treat you as such
