I'm an order selector for a union shop and it's one of the best paying jobs I've ever had in my life. I can make more than with my last full time job in a day. On top of bonuses, incentive pay, holiday pay, discounts and employee raffles. Quick tip for new employees: Interlock your pallet's boxes to ensure that your pallet is strong and sturdy, park your power worker near the spot your selecting from to be quicker, and when you select a box be sure of where you're going to put it at, set it down and keep it moving. The more time you take making adjustments, the more time it eats up towards your incentive and slows you down. When in doubt, wrap your pallet! It takes more time to pick up fallen cases than to wrap it. So just do so when you get a chance as you go (although with more experience you'll be able to build a pallet that can stand on it's own before being wrapped). Good luck!
@@sonderevokingbuns That's if you're pushing yourself to go fast. Most of the time you're only selecting for a day or 2 at most and the rest you can be forking, etc. that's not so taxing. My only problem with this job is the pace/ percentage needed to keep the job. Maintaining a 90% when you get absolutely swamped by big ordered back to back is seriously taxing. I feel like if they simply added 10 minutes to most of the bigger orders, the stress would go down for everyone involved Legit in my first 4 months working I’ve heard so many “vets” complain about the standard just cause it’s almost no room for mistakes. You can’t adjust anything on your pallet or god forbid you’re in a crowded isle, cause then you’re loosing percentages by the second.
@Eric Cruz it's a base rate. I think they cap at 25 or 26 an hour. They schedule you for 5 days, and you have to get a certain amount of minutes for the day. To me, c&s is more relaxed, and you get a break. At mb, you get 3 20 min breaks that aren't clock out breaks. So if you're behind on your minutes, you have to work through your break to hit production. There is no incentive pay. Pallets are easier to build tho but the size of the plastic pallets are half the size of what you're used to. I liked c&s better. More potential to make more money.

At the warehouse where I work box pickers are all either new hires learning the system or forkift operators being punished for running low numbers. Yeah I’ve said this in another comment but the pay isn’t as “great” as a lot of people act like it is. Most people get into it when they’re college aged, or mid 20’s when a lot of their friends who went to school or learned a trade are making like 15 bucks an hour, so yes it feels like a lot when you’re pulling a 120 making 24 bucks an hour. But over time those people start to advance in career fields and are basically making as much money if not more to do jobs that are not back breaking labor. It’s also hard to go to school or find other career opportunities when you do this kind of work so it becomes a vicious cycle a lot of people get stuck in. I only did it for a few months before I got into loading. In the near future I’m looking to leave the warehouse environment all together
*sigh* when are people going to learn? You don't step off the jack until it''s stopped, never back out of the aisle forks first without stopping looking both ways and honking , and never exit the aisle from the front without doing the same. Also, what's up with the shoddy order stacking? By the way, the wrapping should be done from bottom to top. If you wrap the top without securing the foundation, you're screwed. I'm glad he wrapped the whole pallet though. I see people all the time wrap just the bottom or just the top. Nope...doesn't work. If you don't have a solid foundation the whole thing's gonna fall, but even if you do you can't neglect any part of the order. The problem with production goals is they make it way too easy to half-ass things for convenience and meeting the quota. Quantity should always be the first priority...and NEVER stack anything sideways if that's not how it was palletized in the location. One good bump, and BOOM! See ya later, product (unless it's very soft and/or flexible). If I were the customer, I would be appalled at the way a lot of these orders are built. Good, Lord!
All was good, I just would have started wrapping the pallets from the bottom up; reason being if you get dizzy or lightheaded after several times going around you would be standing up wrapping the top of the pallet instead of bending over wrapping the bottom.

How’s Martin&brower more 💰 then c&s im at c&s right now
@Eric Cruz it's a base rate.

How'd is it going? I officially start my 1st day tomorrow. 1 week out of orientation.
@@Skidz1818 your green expect to be treated like one. I like it actually it's fun driving the pallet Jack. Always be aware of your surroundings. I worked at imperial beverage in Kalamazoo Michigan same stuff but when I got there we got iPads no paper work nice video
What kind of bullshit is this where you have a headset and still have to carry labels or whatever that is? 😡
Currently picking in the freezer at my job… definitely not for the weak😅
I left that world from railroading but i always have respect for the lumpers. Its not easy n its a puzzle
I heard railroad work is very tough
@@jasonhaiflich8967 its not its all mental! You gotta be strong minded and thick skinned
What kind of tips you got on selecting here? I understand you guys zone select for the required stops on a single pallet. I come from vistar and we pretty much just stack everything together being a 1 pallet order or 25 pallets for a single customer. The merging of stops is a lil new to me but just want some tips on how to avoid fucking up. Do’s and Dont’s.
I do this at Britania and Philco in Brazil....good luck bro!!!
Why the headset ? Usually they give you a paper work order/picklist or a Rf gun.
Thank you for the video. Very valuable with knowledge beforehand
I wish I had the aisles all to myself like that
I see you bro thanks for the video! Good looks. I start order filling tomorrow so now I know where my pace should be 💪🏾
Lmao he is moving very slow in my eyes at zenith logistics as a freezer order selector I can say this guy is slow
Dudes not slow he's just smooth that's why it looks easy, warehouse is big so there is alot of drive time which is half the battle
@@jweezy5490 nah hes slow bro im an order selector in one of the biggest most strict distribution center ans that aint smooth my friend
@@collinhall8987 maybe but that was a simple order, with nobody in the warehouse, I feel you freezer guys always think you're the cats pajamas and you're not wrong, dry is for losers 😂
@@collinhall8987 I picked over 100 cases in 20 min how is that slow and u think this is my fastest lol u see me running I could if I wanted to I've done 250 cases almost 7 feet high pallets in less then an hour buddy plus I stack to make my drivers job easier I actually think about other people u see anything crossed tide no so the driver will have 7 scoop stacks without barely moving any cases just scoop and go... plus freezer sucks everything is squared and nothing breaks cause it's frozen dry is where the big boys are at!!
He's going so slow. I pulled 250 to 300 cases per hour in the cooler with 50 lb bags of onions, cabbage, crates of strawberries, mushrooms, and other delicate cases that have to be moved multiple times. I also made sure my stops and stickers where all were the driver could have his best day as possible. Dry selection is so much easier.
I work freezer and cooler. I hate picking up those onions lol. Freezer is much more easier to stack but the downside is the temperature (doesn't really bother if you constantly moving) my freezer warehouse is at -11
Shit was so hard until I got use to it. Now u can’t tell me nothing lol
I remember days like this, dizzy watching you wrap those pallets
This is easily one of the worst careers anyone could have. It doesn't teach you any practical life skills, kills your body, and you're only making like 60k a year tops. (not counting OT, I know a lot of companies like to milk as much work out of their employees with mandatory). I need to get out of this shit man. Only 30, but 10 years of this and my back already feels like it's 60. Warning any of you that might be thinking about getting in this line of work... find something else. At least with construction there's progression / skills you'll learn that'll help you be handy around the house and shit.
Damn
This is why people need to lift properly. I never had back injury during my many years of warehouse work and one guy in his 20s or 30s got injured when he lifted up a big case of beef.
Brother learn to lift
@@bigpapa5388 consider yourself fortunate if your work actually gives you the time to lift every single case with proper form. Also gets a little difficult when you're lifting anywhere from 80 - 110k pounds a day.
Good, Lord!
Bet there’s NOTHING better than 10-12 hours a day of this ☝🏼
This looks so boring
@@nakga2player27 it's extremely boring. But you make a lot of money for someone with no degree. I make about 4.5k a month which in my area is a lot.
@@lukeutz680 I just started today they took me For a tour around the warehouse any tips on helping me what to wear or anything
@@corybodley7634 any updates?
@@lukeutz680 you could drive a truck and male alot more
Wow most respect to warehouse workers I'm glad I drive a truck for a living you people work too hard for what you get paid
Some warehouse selectors make 70K - 100K a year. It depends on the company you work for
That wrapping takes lot of juice out of you, i don't understand why does cheap company dont invest on wrapping machines
Ain't that the truth I spend 5-10 min each route putting eaches on pallet and wrapping pallets
Fuck all that. I was at Sysco San Diego, loaders would wrap our shit at the door.
You just answered your own quiet ion, because they’re cheap lol
All was good, I just would have started wrapping the pallets from the bottom up; reason being if you get dizzy or lightheaded after several times going around you would be standing up wrapping the top of the pallet instead of bending over wrapping the bottom.
