MSI Katana GF76 - Add RAM and access BIOS XMP
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 20 мар 2022
- Just a basic video showing you how to physically install RAM into your laptop and how to fully utilize it!
13:03 if you were just wanting to know how to access BIOS XMP.
*IMPORTANT: For the Ctrl Shift Alt F2 to work, it has to be the Ctrl Shift on the right side of your keyboard and the Alt on the left side!
Notes: I'm sorry about the camera angles while installing RAM and that my hands/arms are partially in the way... I don't make videos like this often, so that's why you don't hear me constantly begging you to "hit that like button and smash that subscribe" between my 20 ads. Not my style.
-Sorry for my voice being so quiet during the BIOS part, my girlfriend was sleeping and I like being alive so I was trying not to wake the beast.
-Also sorry for the parts that I should have done in advance (unscrewing/removing back, opening RAM, etc) remember I'm not an expert!
-If you aren't comfortable doing stuff like this then by all means DON'T DO IT!! Have a tech savy friend or a computer repair specialist assist you with this, I will be extremely heartbroken if somebody says they broke their laptop trying to do this upgrade. Obviously I realize that's pretty unlikely, but you never know in the world we live in.

6,000+ views?? For little ol' me??
I'm speechless! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! I am blown away by the amount of people who have spent even a second watching this, I honestly didn't expect it to even hit 600 views, let alone 6,000!
I encourage everyone reading this to think of all the things you do in your life that other people may want to do themselves and consider filming/uploading it! Share your knowledge! You never know just how many people you may end up helping, which is something we should all try to do more of.
Thanks again, seriously. You guys (and girl) rock!!
what if the memory option isnt available?
Good info and demonstration thanks bro 🙏
It doesn’t show xm4 profile it just shows custom and default
Me too
Same
I have an MSI GF63 Thin 11UC laptop, it has a 144hz and 8gb ram display but I don’t feel like it’s very smooth most of the time, I can feel that it’s 144hz sometimes but then it just drops down to 30-60 on regular use. Memory is always at 80%+ you reckon if I upgrade to 32gb it would be faster and smoother?
I have 2 rams and just have default profile and custom profile what should I do
Could you please check if the HDMI connects to the RTX 3050Ti?
I don’t have the “Memory” tab for “Memory Configuration” with my MSI GF63 ThinSC, any help?
Same.
I found it under the overclocking menu instead of
Nice video, but you know something about the opcion of Memory won't appear?
In my Laptop(it's a pulse gl66) don't appear.
Greetings
Same problem
Question: will an m.2 with a heatsink fit properly? I had one in my PS5 that I just sold and kept the SSD since this laptop comes with minimal storage.
Won’t fit with heat sink.
I have two questions:
1: So after putting in new ram, you don’t have to do anything else? The computer just automatically recognizes the new ram? Just wondering if there’s other steps than just sliding in the ram and being done since I’m upgrading in a few days
2: What does XMP do? I heard someone says it helps but I don’t really know the details, is it worth enabling on a laptop like this?
Thanks
1. Yes, just put it in and it should be good to go
2. Alot of motherboards have xmp disabled and what XMP does is allow the motherboard to use the full speed of the ram. E.g your ram is say 3200mhz but it is running at only 2133 mhz due to XMP being disabled. When you enable XMP it allows your RAM to run at the full speed of 3200mhz.
Generally XMP is always recommended on ANY laptop
thank you so much @@toadlol5895 😄
Bro. how do i reset BIOS. my BIOS is crupt i think. can u help me out
thanks for the help
how to remove battery? it is always in?
Bruv, just picked up gf76 12ue for a stealio dealio in January, lovin it so much got wifey a twin heh
Appreciate the video, happy with the 16gb for now, but she does digital production stuff, 32 down the road might help (will test for mem usage under load before, make sure she actually needs it)
But really appreciate the ctrl-alt-shft-f12 (iirc) tip, I was looking to check around in the BIOS, just haven't had time yet. Got me feelin' bit motivated, might have some nerd fun later tonight hehe
Appreciate the time and simple tutorial, seemed pretty straight forward for a budget pc gamer like me to follow.
Cheers, bro!
Great video. Someone told me that the Titan GT77 advanced menu in BIOS doesn't have the XMP profile options. Can someone confirm please? That would be a dealbreaker for me.
I would bet that it does, but for anyone that's reading this that is gonna test it out on that computer REMEMBER:
CTRL + SHIFT on the right side of keyboard
ALT + F2 on the left side, otherwise it won't work!
Can you explain to me why I can't open this option memory configuration? I can't access the option, it's just gray and I can't click on it, if you could help me I'd be very grateful.
what's the maximum we can install in katana?
Mine after installing the ram the screen go black.. why 😢
what performance difference did that make man i got one a year ago and im looking to upgrade it
Games play smoother and load faster, documents and picture files load quicker, among lots of other benefits. It allows the computer to multitask more efficiently.
yo i have a question idk if ur gonna answer since its been a year but the memory configuration is grayed out and i cant click on it what do i do?
Hmmm... my email address is higgins8891@outlook.com go ahead and send me a screenshot so I can actually see what you're looking at, and I'll do a little research from there and see what I can find out for ya :)
Hello can you help me I have the same laptop and I was going to start a game and it crashes and dont turn on again
Even if it's plugged in/charged it won't turn on? Hmm... how long ago did you buy laptop? Might want to check and see if it's still under warranty, cause that sounds like a major hardware failure.
I dont have the xmp profiles on mine
Have you disconnected the battery before adding RAM? Isn't it necessary for a secure service?
As you can see he didnt its not necessary but for safety you should.Just in case I disconnected battery I didnt wear any gloves
Thank you GF66 Katana have same
Are they DDR4 or DDR5? Tried to look at see if the motherboard supports DDR5 but couldn't find anything. I know the CPU can handle it though.
DDR4!
anyone have the link for the ram he purchased? I have the exact same laptop I would like to purchase it asap. thank you!
www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07RDQ1FCB?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
And according to the information on that page it says with those RAM sticks you don't even have to change BIOS configuration, so that's pretty sweet!
hey man fantastic vid! very insightful and helpful for a pc noob like me i also have the same laptop but i5 11400! just 2 questions...do u think it will void the 1-year warranty on the laptop if i install the ram myself? and 2nd question...is there a big difference between 32gb and 8gb ram? if so, what is the difference? and last question...what is the XMP thing u did at the end? Thanks!
Yes I believe it does void your warranty to open it up :/ unless you could somehow remove the sticker over the screw intact, and even then anybody doing repairs on it would know that it has been opened due to the different RAM you installed. So that's up to you!
2nd question, yes!! There is a significant difference between 8gb and 32gb. Especially if you are into live streaming or video editing, 32gb is a must to not have a significant drag in performance.
And your last question, XMP stands for Extreme Memory Profile, and it enables your RAM to perform at a higher level than it normally would. It's basically overclocking your RAM.
You def want at least 16GB for gaming. 8 GB is fine for regular laptop work. 32 would be good for workstation stuff.
Hey man I tried ctrl-alt-shift-f2 it didn't bring up any other options menu can u help ?
@@michaelmc5819 Use RIGHT Shift and Right Ctrl + LEFT Alt and F2
Bro pls make video how to add graphics drivers
So if I don’t have the xmp profiles and it just says default and custom does that mean I can’t activate it?
Did you add new RAM sticks? Or still have the ones it came with? I'm guessing the lack of XMP profile means that the sticks aren't capable of doing so... I'm not a hundred percent sure though.
Yeah I think my ram sticks are set to 2400 I’m going to look into getting some upgrades on that soon though thanks for the video and reply anyways!
I don't know if you are still answering to your comments but if yes, on memory profile, I don't have xmp 1 and 2... It only says default or custom. Do you have any idea why ?
And you did the button combo press in the beginning that brings up additional options correct?
@@jamesb1988thank for you answer ^^
Yes I did and I have the same pc but it doesn't shows xmp
@@kenaitwo same here
@@kenaitwo bro did you found any answer?, i have the same problem
@@jordannymontecino9734 I'm sorry but I think the stock ram sticks simply aren't compatible and maybe that's why it doesn't appears on the screen :(
I have a 2 TB m.2 i would prob swap out the 512GB one for it as well.
That's a good idea! I have always found it pretty humorous that my suped up gaming laptop has only 512GBs while my entry level basic HP has 1 TB.
Memory menu does not exist on my laptop. Memory thermal and memory training exists but memory does not.
Same problem, are you running with factory RAM or did you upgrade your RAM?
@@baluranha I replaced rams with kingston KF432S20IB-32
@@Enver328 Maybe it's motherboard specifics then
@@baluranha I tihnk so. Some higher models could have this option.
Great video! I have the same laptop but mine only has 8GB. Going to do this soon. Where is the best place to find out what RAM is compatible?
Just search 'DDR4 Laptop' and I'm 99.9 percent sure that anything that pops up will be compatible, just different sizes/speeds but all of them will work. Just depends on how much you're wanting to spend :) the Corsairs in the video cost about 140 bucks after tax for 2 16GB sticks on Amazon, just to give you a rough idea of the ball park.
@@jamesb1988
Thanks man! I was already thinking of going for 2x 16gb at 3200 and I think that's exactly what those were

Hola podrías hacer un video de como activar el turbo boost saludos
lo siento no hablo español :(
It doesnt work for my msi katana
Not very good with this stuff but ctrl alt shift f2 does nothing on my katana gf76 11ud
Ctrl Shift have to be the ones on the right side of your keyboard and the alt on the left side :)
Don't even sweat it I had the same problem at first.
@@jamesb1988 thank you I will give that a try I could some what tell from the video some was on either side just never got the combo right

This will help. Also get yourself a Virus defender program like Norton or McAfee, you would be amazed at how badly your computers performance will suffer from a single malware rooted in your system.
@@PoppinPimples Also do you have your laptop plugged into a monitor or TV so you can have a bigger screen to use? If so that absolutely tanks your GPUs benchmark, because your laptops GPU is technically doing almost nothing if you have it running to a different monitor.
Next time you run bench score again, make sure there are no other programs running (preferably doing this right after you turned the computer on) and make sure the only thing you have plugged in is laptop power. No usb/bluetooth mice or keyboards or anything like that... computers are super finnicky about how they perform, you wouldnt think it would make a big difference but it does. For instance to load the newest Microsoft Flight Simulator, i have to unplug my mouse & joystick and turn off external monitor or else the game won't load/crashes to desk top.
@@jamesb1988 I do use a monitor. I’ll take ur advice and give it a try. Thanks for the help
Not working for me
Mine doesn't have the memory configuration clickable
Did you do the Ctrl+Shift on the right side of the keyboard +Alt on the left side +F2? You have to press them all at the same time to bring up additional menu options.
@@jamesb1988 yeah I was able to unlock the expanded menu but the option you chose was dark text still
I contacted MSI and they told me that it's automatic the clock speed and it should have already set it to 2666 if it was stable my ram is running at 2400 I just installed 64gb pny memory but I have a gf75 not 76 I'm not sure the menu looks exactly the same as yours with the smart agent and all that but I couldn't select the exact same options
