First things first: don't be embarrassed that you forgot your Windows 8 password. We're told over and over again to make longer and more complicated passwords to help keep our data secure, which makes them harder and harder to remember. Who are we trying to keep out here?
Even if your Windows 8 password wasn't that difficult to remember-you're human. Everyone forgets things now and then, even important things!
I Forgot My Windows 8 Password! What Are My Options?
Fortunately, there are a number of ways to get back in if you forgot your Windows 8 password, all of which we detail below.
Important: Some of these ideas only apply if you log in to Windows 8 using a local account (you log in with a traditional username). Some work only if you're using a Microsoft account (you log in with an email address), and some work for both. We'll let you know each time. However, all of these ideas apply equally to any edition of Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 you may be using.
Reset Your Microsoft Account Password Online
An option you were given when you first bought your computer or installed Windows 8 was to sign up for a Microsoft account or sign in with your existing Microsoft account. One really big benefit of doing that is that it gives you an escape plan if you ever forget your Windows 8 password.
So grab your smartphone, or any other computer, pull open your favorite browser and see How to Reset Your Microsoft Account Password for the full tutorial.
Note: You can reset a forgotten Windows 8 password online like this only if you're using a Microsoft account. If you're using a local account, your password is not stored with Microsoft online and so can't be reset by them.
Use That Windows 8 Password Reset Disk You Made
A Windows 8 password reset disk is exactly what is sounds like-it's a floppy disk, or flash drive, that can be used to reset your Windows 8 password if you forget it. If you have one, this is the time to find it and use it!
Unfortunately, it's that if you have one bit that will probably have you moving on to the next idea. A password reset disk is tied to your specific Windows 8 account, meaning that one has to be created from within Windows, back when you actually knew your password. In other words, if you don't already have a Windows 8 password reset disk, your chance to create one is over.
Once you get back in to Windows 8 using one of the other ideas below, please create a Windows 8 password reset disk so you can avoid all this trouble next time you forget your password.
Note: Creating, and thus using, a password reset disk is only an option if you log in to Windows 8 using a local account.
This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 8 operating system (Home, Professional, Enterprise, Education) from all supported hardware manufactures, like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba,Lenovo, and Samsung). Наука

P. S. If you have the error "Windows is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file", try to change the letter from C: to D: or other letter, until you won't receive that error and continue the tutorial.
Yes, I found the same thing..
My OS is on the C Drive but for some reason I had to change it to the D Drive for the windows data and folders to be seen.

Great video.. useful
Hello, this is the closest information iv been able to find regarding my issue and I was wondering if your could help if i elaborate. Ive had an PC I got from a yard sale years ago and after a streak of boredom I decided to gather the parts needed to turn the beast on. Long story short, it did indeed fire up and after passing the BIOS I was greeded by a nostalgic "Windows Server 2008 Enterprise" message. After the laughter stopped, I hit login, and it is just like a normal login screen (but older) though the only option is to sign in as the administrator, and I do not have the password. Would I be able to follow these steps but rather than trying to boot with windows 8, boot with the current Windows 11? Any information you could give would be more than appreciated!
I know this is late has hell, (ONE YEAR) and it is probably not even worth putting that very same laptop into service at this point.
However, I would like to answer your question!
(OS: Operating System OP: Original Post (/er))
The way the OP's has solved the issue of the 'forgotten' password is via the following:
Intent: Have the current OS change the password
Method:
Use a removable (CD, USB etc) media with a bootable OS of the (same version of windows that is currently installed) to reset the password.
Example steps:
Insert a DVD or USB with the installation and boot the system.
On the Language and other preferences screen, click Next.
Select the Repair your computer link.
The Repair your computer option on Windows Server installer that takes you to resetting the admin password.
Windows server 2008: Select your OS installation and click Next.
The Troubleshoot option on Windows Server installer.
Click Command Prompt.
Type in the following:
The command above makes a backup of the utility manager. Then type the following:
This command replaces Utilman with the Command Prompt. We want to do this, because the Utilman is opened when you click on the Ease of Access icon. Since we change it to the Command Prompt, we will have root access to run commands. The commands mentioned above may vary based on the path of your Windows install. In our example, it is on the C drive, which is by default on any installation unless specifically modified by the installer. In case your install is located on another disk partition, modify the above commands accordingly. Reboot the system. Select the Ease of Access icon. Type in the following:
Type in and confirm your desired password. Once completed, you will be able to log in as admin. However, don’t forget to revert your changes to Utilman. To do so:
Reboot the computer again from the installation disk (or which ever other removable media you've used earlier)
Open the Command Prompt. (using the same method as stated in the beginning of this example)
Type the following in:
Restart your server once again and you’re done. You should have access to the account via the new password you have set earlier!
Can't work. Showed error message "the user profile service servic failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded"
Keep getting to the command prompt section, at which point it asks me to sign into the account which I am trying to reset the password for. Any way around this?
Me too
My cmd needs password to open it. How to fix it? Pls reply
Greetings from Sri Lanka.
Thank you it worked well
Glad I could help!
Why not boot using like F8 or the normal WIndows repair mode by pulling the power, then go through the menu in that so you don''t need a CD or USB?
Have you tried this?
The issue will be that you won't have appropriate access to rename/move/change Utilman or Command Prompt. You will need separate operating system to change those files
or;
have an account with admin level access within that operating system
However, if you have an admin level access account, there is a much faster and easier way to go about changing passwords on the local system!
what should i have on the usb?
In start, u mention Windows 10 Iso to be downloaded, Im using Windows 8.1 and want to reset Password. Isnit necessary to download the Iso? Also, i dont have Reset Password disk, what to do? Please guide 🙏🏻
is the "system32" prompt equivalent for both 32 bit and 64 bit? or it differs?
thats my question at the moment. did you ever figure that out?
Hi. Bought a used laptop and it had Bios password, so I wonder if you know how to use a kinda ''backdoor'' to remove that and have no Bios password, I am not sure if I still have the sellers number to ask. Anything you can do to help me open it? Maybe he sold it because he did not remember it.
To reset the BIOS/CMOS password, you will need to access the motherboard physically by removing the appropriate case panels. Once you have access to the motherboard, remove the CMOS battery. (It will look like a watch battery, google it for reference!)
After removing the battery, turn on your device, wait til it boots to your login screen (or the BIOS password screen), wait a moment, then turn your device off. Now, you can either wait about 15-30 minutes, or if you wish to expediate, unplug the computer from its power source (cable), unplug any batteries (as used in tablets/laptops), with no power source available: Press the power button. Let go, press again for 3 seconds. Let go. Now you can plug in your device, and the BIOS password should be gone.
The CMOS battery is responsible for keeping all the settings made inside of BIOS from changing. (This includes the BIOS password)
Im so very hapy because i lot time Search for the exactly method

What command do i use instead of "cd windows" if im using a usb flash drive instead of a cd drive
the same. cd means change directory, it has nothing to do with a compact disc.
Why do smart people make :"How to" videos that do not have resolution enough to make it clear and readable.
It is 1080p, plus captions, and voice narration. You can also pause, rewind, and speed up video. Hard to ask for more from a free service to you.

Should rename utilman back! ... by deleting the clone of cmd.exe "del utilman.exe", then rename the original bak file: "ren utilman_bak.exe utilman.exe"
