I suspect the position he is trying to express is that it is possible to support "trans rights" (although what rights are those and how do they differ from anyone else's rights?) whilst at the same time being opposed to those things. A fundamental question is "what is a right?" - a right has to be a collectively agreed thing; it's a construct; a right isn't a right until it's been won. What there are are trans demands, and many of them are foolish and it should be okay to be opposed to them. Okay, you might say, but I want them to have the same rights as everyone else. But they already do... arguably. Gay marriage set a weird precedent (this is not an opinion on which side should have won, just an exploration of the rhetoric and logic used by both sides). Gay men should have the same rights as straight men, says one side, and straight men can marry whoever they love so so should gay men. That's equality. The other side says: straight men can marry women and so can gay men so they already have equality. Of course no one ever assumed they should have the right to tell other people what pronouns they wish other people to refer to them by, until transactivists started demanding it. We don't even want that right, but the transactivist (assuming they are capable of debate which few seem to be) might argue "but you already are referred to by your preferred pronouns". That woman said something terrifyingly true at the end. We're very very impressionable when we're young and can get involved in some fads and ideologies we don't really understand. In mild cases this might involve breaking the hearts of family and friends; in more extreme cases we could completely screw up our lives. Then we finally experience realisation in our middle age when it's too late. There needs to be far more care taken to protect our children from being taken away from the boundaries of 'normal'.

I suspect the position he is trying to express is that it is possible to support "trans rights" (although what rights are those and how do they differ from anyone else's rights?) whilst at the same time being opposed to those things. A fundamental question is "what is a right?" - a right has to be a collectively agreed thing; it's a construct; a right isn't a right until it's been won. What there are are trans demands, and many of them are foolish and it should be okay to be opposed to them.
Okay, you might say, but I want them to have the same rights as everyone else. But they already do... arguably.
Gay marriage set a weird precedent (this is not an opinion on which side should have won, just an exploration of the rhetoric and logic used by both sides). Gay men should have the same rights as straight men, says one side, and straight men can marry whoever they love so so should gay men. That's equality.
The other side says: straight men can marry women and so can gay men so they already have equality.
Of course no one ever assumed they should have the right to tell other people what pronouns they wish other people to refer to them by, until transactivists started demanding it. We don't even want that right, but the transactivist (assuming they are capable of debate which few seem to be) might argue "but you already are referred to by your preferred pronouns". By coincidence, or accident or mainly because I don't care so refer to me however you like; pronouns aren't personal; they are grammatical. But the argument is still "you already have the right to have things the way you prefer them because you prefer things the way they are, so I, as someone who would prefer things to be different to how they are, should also have the right to have things the way I want them and that would be equality." "But things are not the way I want them because I want them that way and certainly not because I have a right to have things the way I want them, but by a combination of luck and acceptance of reality. You are demanding a right that no one has and is nonsensical and frankly megalomaniacal!"
Anyhow, perhaps the problem is calling them "rights". Or maybe it should be okay to be against identity-based rights whilst saying I am for universal human rights that by necessity includes people of every demographic, rather than foolishly claiming to be for rights for a specific group but not state which rights they are. What right would Piers want a trans person to have that is not a right for everyone else who isn't trans? If there is none then why would he refer to them as "trans rights"? Piers is, ironically given his reputation, a virtue signaller.
