    I have their set of six and added the Quin purple. Huge tubes, they will last a long time. The ultramarine is gorgeous. They look like sennelier to me too.

      I love how economical they are too!

    Really helpful Dan, thanks so much. I want to buy some artists quality watercolours now and wasn't sure whether to pay the extra for Sennelier. However they are a bit too expensive for me so now feel more than happy to go with Jacksons. Thank you. ☺

    Hey Dan, just a heads up that although on the Jackson's website and tubes not all the pigment formulas match the current Sennelier line, in their latest catalog or if you ask Jackson's directly, they confirm that, for example, Jackson's Yellow Light is now made with PY153, just like Sennelier. On the website, Jackson's have pigment compositions listed that match Sennelier's OLD lineup, and on some of the tubes as well. They just haven't updated the website for the Jackson's line since Sennelier's last update of their line...

      Thanks for letting me know. I have noticed jacksons are really bad at keeping their info updated. I got a load of colours that they listed containing PO49 but when they arrived the were new formulas. It's really frustrating

      I've had the same problem with other stores. For example Van Gogh changed some of their paints over a year ago and Jerry's still has the old pigment info.. which was disappointing to me since I was buying single pigment transparent shades. Apparently they are working through the back stock because one tube was the old pigment, and one was the new version which was not single pigment.

    Yeah and so I just subscribed here. Love the Hippeastrum flower studs- good work! (Need more care when 3d modelling forms like the pot in the great cactus pic- hope it's ok to say. The cross section circles need to be correctly rendered. Like the rim edges)

    Hi Dan I’ve been wondering about these paints... I’m gonna kick back and watch now. 👍🏼

    Thanks for another great review! I've seen the paints in action both in the collab and the stream, but it was great to hear your opinion after testing them out. Recently I was gifted some dots of the Sennelier paints (of which I had none before) and they are awesome, if the Jacksons are the same quality or even close, they must be awesome! :)

      Thanks! The Jackson's paints are the same quality to the sennelier from what I have tried.Both brands are amazing.

    I've purchased some Jackson's colours when they were running a sale and now I'm waiting for them to come :) there's a quin gold in my selection. Since I already got a long time ago white nights 24 watercolours set I just decided to order on Jackson's some colours I didn't have or ones that were a little weak on the white nights version. The cerulean you got looks very lovely. But the alizarin crimson Swatch looks weird, more like a cotman pr101 burnt sienna than a cool, pinkish red.

    • @Dan.B.Artist
      @Dan.B.Artist  5 лет назад

      You won't be disappointed! I agree. Not a fan of their Alizarin it doesn't look like any other PR83 I have

  • @opabinnier
    @opabinnier 2 года назад +1

    Yup, Jaxons are great to have ar our disposal as they are a brilliant deal- and so are Cotmans. Though I only get tubes and make up my diy palettes ar home. My two most used working palettes are a mixed Cotman/Jaxon 18 and my Turners 18. Though I do use my Cot/Jax 'earths-only' palette quite a bit as it produces some of my favorite work. Otherwise I use split primaries with some earths- so 18 pans is a bit spoiled as I don't really need that many pigments but I keep a few specials for skin tones and botanicals so it gets up to 18. I do also use a reduced M Graham palette of just 8, an idea which I got from the Mind of Watercolour guy: tremendous colours too. OH AND now that PR206 is going extinct, I stocked up on more Jaxons and Cotmans Alizarins. (Once these finally run out I guess I'll switch to Perylene Maroons or the like)

    Do you need the cadmium yellow deep as a warm yellow option if you already have the Quin gold? Also is the ultramarine the light or deep version?

    • @Dan.B.Artist
      @Dan.B.Artist  4 года назад +1

      Hey! I believe it is their ultramarine light. Cadmium Yellow Deep and Quin Gold are both warm yellows but do behave differently. The QG is a rusty transparent yellow while the CYD is more opaque and more custard like in colour, each one mixes different colours.

    Hi Dan! Thanks for this review. Do you know what the lightfastness ratings of these paints are? Will they last as long as professional/artist grade paints?

    • @Dan.B.Artist
      @Dan.B.Artist  4 года назад +2

      Hi! These are artist grade paints but some pigments are not lightfast. For example the their natural alizarin crimson isn't lightfast. You can check the pigment info on their website :)

    • @awatercolourist
      @awatercolourist 4 года назад

      Penholder Art Thanks! I did indeed check their website. They give a star rating for the lightfastness of each colour but I couldn’t find details on their website about what the stars mean or what testing standard they used.

    I've purchased two of the Jackson's brand palettes.. they are inexpensive and very well made. Better than some expensive brands that cost two to three times as much. They would be my first choice of empty pan palette if I were ordering from Jackson's already, since I'm in the US the shipping is prohibitive unless I'm ordering enough items to make it worth it.

    I had there old old tubes that my dad had since he was 20 and he is 40 now, the paints are a bit eh well a bit not as good, but are they still useable, I'm not a pro in water color and was wondering if I could maybe sell them?

    • @Dan.B.Artist

      If it arabic gum hasn't seperated from the pigment, it's always worth a try!

    The quinacridone purple looks like permanent rose.

      @Dan.B.Artist  3 года назад

      Yes they are made with similar pigments, the purple name is a little misleading as it's actually magenta made with PR122.

    Thanks, for sharing this review, my experience with Jacksons Watercolor Paint ---- is not good most of the paints has a defective misture of binder and pigment. However, the customer service is great. I highly suggest not to purchase this brand for the moment.

  • @SuperExadidas
    @SuperExadidas 4 года назад +1

    I have purchased Jacksons watercolor paint in tube, I can say that the the quality of the paint is not even worth to try, because it has a lot of binder - out of 12 colors 8 of them are not usable. Especially Cerulean and Quinacridon Gold

    • @Dan.B.Artist
      @Dan.B.Artist  4 года назад +3

      Sorry to hear that you didn't like them. They shouldn't have excessive binder. The paints are quite soft and runny due to the honey content. If they have too much binder I would contact Jacksons as its likely to be a fault. Granulating colours like cerulean may just be experiencing binder spilt which is quite common. Give the tube a shake and stick a cocktail stick in the tube to give it a mix. :)

      @@Dan.B.Artist Thanks for your kind reply. Finding fault or dwelling into it, is not my attitude. Working in an international brand taught me a valuable lesson --- our accountability only start when it is already out of the store shelves and when it reach the customers. Now, l am hoping Jackson maintain their product, l know their intention is good, they only need to improve their Product Testing Process. Think in a customers expectations, especially the hard earned money they spent. Best regards and stay safe.

      @@SuperExadidasas someone has explained, for stock turnaround the 21ml tubes being larger are replenished less frequently so stay longer on display, where they are kept cap side up on the racks. This means that the binder tends to flow to the top, cap end. There are a number of ways to resolve this; try storing the tubes inverted, allowing the binder to flow away from the cap end, alternately use a cocktail stick or wooden toothpick to mix the pigment and binder in the tube, a further measure could be to ( with cap well secured!) squeeze and tube in such a way to mobilise pigment and binder in the tube. In any case if you have ordered the paint direct from Jackson's just give them a call or send them an email. Sure they may have busy moments during the day but I have always found them to be super helpful and no I don't work for them or have any links with them other than having bought paint from them on occasion. Wishing you well my friend.
