  • If you’ve ever been to Walt Disney World, you might have at one time or another gone for a drink of water at one of the many water fountains on property. And if you have, there’s a chance you’ve experienced the, uh, unique taste of the water. So, why does Disney World water taste so bad?

We once had a homework to compare different kinds of water, pH, conductivity, colour, taste, price, whatever. The taste was fairly problematic for a lot of people.

Hey! I used to live in P.R., and what my family and I did when moving over to FL was buying a private filtering system. I’m aware most people can’t afford it, but you can probably go to any store like Walmart and buy a tiny filter for the kitchen sink. Either that, or the private filtering idea; the one we chose was so good that even the showers had drinkable water (nobody’s drinking shower water, of course).

@@bezoticallyyours83 Can confirm, it's a ploy to buying bottled water, pretty much anywhere. I was staying at a resort in Sarasota, and they provided 2 bottles (for a 5 person room, mind you), but other than that, you had to buy your own. They weren't cheap, like $1.50 a bottle (which was standard everywhere in the immediate area), and we aren't talking high end, like Fiji water. Just your average filtered tap water tossed in cheap plastic that shouldn't even cost a quarter.

I love your videos Rob, but I feel there’s one thing that needs to be addressed here: when I visited WDW for the 1st time in May of 1998 I distinctly remember how every water fountain throughout the parks pumped low temperature water and since I was in the May Orlando heat it was delicious and refreshing. It’s something I’ll never forget because I’d never had water from a free water fountain being pumped cold anywhere before and I’ve never had again since then either.
Fast forward to 2007 on my second visit (and every visit since then) and the water fountains now only pump room temperature water which in summer is not what you want and I found myself buying the $2.99 ice cold water bottles they sold at every stand.
I hated this change and I can’t help but feel it was done on purpose so guests would rather buy cold water bottles rather than just drink cold water from the free fountains.
Is there any truth in what I just said or is my memory playing tricks on me?
PS: I never noticed anything strange in the taste of the WDW water, to be honest. It was the temperature of it during summer that made me want to steer clear from it.

This is probably because DAK is directly south of the domestic water plant, thus the chlorine is still active and at a higher quantity. Also possibly if they could let the water settle in the tanks longer the sulfur taste wouldn't be so bad... But they don't use aeration via the normal methods that most water plants in the area use, instead they use blowers to aerate the water to make the chlorine do its magic.

I have a hack for this! You can go up to any (or at least most) kiosk and ask for a cup of ice water and they will give it to you for free! It’s an easy hack that you can do and if you have a huge party then you can use multiple cups to fill up a water jug too if you need!

  • @marcothomas3044

When you get it from a fountain you taste the sulfur and phosphate because it is lukewarm. Just get the free cups of ice and throw it in your water bottle. Cold kills that flavor. It's weird but it works and you save money.

You do know that Disney is really expensive to go even buying one of the cruise lines is also expensive I'd wouldn't go there just to waste my money I'd would actually go to Schlitterbahn Sea World or to Six Flags instead of going to Disney.

Floridian here! I live 5 hours south from Orlando but have vacationed in / at Disney often. I went recently and my friend and I decided to make some tea with some of the tap water at an Air BnB near Disney.... long story short, it was gross too so now we just call it "Orlando water". It even smells way different from our water down here!
