Both of these programs were really nice and I wish she had kept them.

It's true, two very beautiful programs, but too much changes too soon. She should have just finished the season with her other programs. Tonya kept this long program for the 92-93 season, but she didn't make the world team - a poor decision by her federation. The ironic thing is that this early performance of this program was her best presentation of it.

and taking out the triple flip after the Ina Bauer is just unbelievable... she received generous marks at these worlds, where she only landed one triple in two programs...

When you compare this particular performance to her previous ones you can tell she rushes the preparation for each jump here. In my opinion that shows she was still trying to get comfortable with these new programs and it wasn't enough time. An additional three weeks of intense training and she probably could have done much better. Shame she ditched the short program from these Worlds because it could have been magnificent.

    her jumps r high

Considering she was known as such a "toughie", she never offered much fight in her programs, often giving up if things didnt go well

I have noticed this and it probably had something to do with the abuse she suffered-her mother reportedly hit her for not doing her jumps, which is insane. So if it all goes well, she’s energized to do even better, and if there’s a failure, it cascades. People’s home lives can be like that, if a child’s tiny mistake is seen as a disaster fraught with abuse and screaming and trauma. Kristi Yamaguchi was probably absolutely safe in making mistakes growing up.

How great that triple axel woudl have been! she was too tilted in her take off and its impossible to land a jump like that

    • @genednomyar3383
      @genednomyar3383 Год назад

Really. I thought the triple axel looked perfect in the air, and I couldn't figure out why she couldn't land it.

@@genednomyar3383 she said she had blade issues, something lol. Looked tilted to me. If only she landed it. Especially at the Olympics. All of ‘92 she was tilted and fell on it

@@Cmc995 I think the last time I saw her land it was 91 Skate America and she landed one I believe both in the short program and the long program. It was the double axle she couldn't land in either one of those 91 Skate America programs. Lol! I also noticed her tilting badly in the air in both the short and long program at the 92 Olympics. I don't know if it was the angle or what but I couldn't see the tilt in the program here at the 92 worlds.

i watched Yamaguchi's, Harding's, Kerrigan's programs and also Denise Biellmann's 1990-1991 professional championship programs. When i compared all those, i recognazied one more time that Denise is incomparable still after retiring 10 years ago, 1981.. Denise performed triple lutz, triple salchow, triple toe loop, double axel and many of those in combination mostly.. Those woman did not change anything in figure skating and did not improve over Denise's era. If Denise came back to amateur skating those days, those woman would have cried :)

thestarsheriff actually her triple lutz was bad and other than the triple toe loop she really has not done any other triples since she turned pro. Kristi and midori still was the top 2

And you also forgot new music. This is different to the music originally played throughout the rest of the season.

The announcer is basically saying she is out of shape/fat. I think she added a few pounds , her legs look heavier , and that can throw your timing off on jumps. She just did not have the same physical push. She got really out of shape in 93/94 ....but yet we all knew she CLAIMED the USFSA & their favoring of Kerrigan was why her career stalled. You can't get fat , keep changing coaches, not train and expect to win.

+officeaddict33 she could've risen above all the bullshit of her life if she had just TRAINED. it's clear that she stopped training sometime after 1991 skate america for pretty much the rest of her career; her long programs always looked like she was ready to take a smoke break about halfway through.

officeaddict33 I actually think she got back into pretty good shape for the 94 Olympics. She landed a beautiful triple axel in the LP warm up. Obviously it turned out to be a disaster for a variety of reasons but she was very fit.

Timothy Horning I also think that going back to Diane was a huge mistake... I guess it's which comes first in that case though, chicken or egg. I think she went back to Diane because Dodi was trying to smack sense into her and she wasn't interested in hearing it. Meanwhile, Diane was a total pushover. The two of them together was a disaster waiting to happen. And then it did.

According to media reports Diane coached and practically paid for everything for Tonya From the age of three, then when Tonya was eighteen Diane was still treating her like a child and was telling what to do and how to dress and how to behave so Tonya rebelled, Diane who had by this time had enough of Tonya slacking off asked Dody if she would take over with Tonya, Dody did great with Tonya until she started acting like a spoiled brat and started to refer to Dody has her employee probably to feel in control of something in her chaotic life, I think maybe Dody didn't let Tonya get away with treating her with so much disrespect and Tonya decided that to have loyal and doting mild mannered Diane nagging her about little things was a safer bet then to have Dody giving her has good has she got. I imagine both Coaches felt like kicking her up the backside from time to time.

Cat AMD Gillooly didn’t like Dody and made Tonya return to Diane.

wow those marks are way too high - should have been in the 4's for both sets of marks.......... a mess.

+snofagun1814 I totally agree, this was just a wreck. Claeys, Preston, Sato, Neske, Kielmann, even Bonaly were all better than this. It's like the judges just forget about the entire penultimate group!

damn...the editing of this music is horrible. clearly not professionally done.
