      Rebecca Stout The triple axel is a difficult jump to hit consistently, just due to how hard it is, she could have easily doubled or singled it, but she stuck to her guns, I have a lot of respect for her for that

      And as we all should know by now, back then,the artistry was the deciding factor. Not the jumps. Same thing happened 4 years later between Nancy and Oksana. They were tied. Nancy had higher technical scores, Oksana had higher artistry. The deciding factor was the artistry. I feel since they were tied,they should have gave both a gold medal. People can argue all they want about the jumps and being more exciting but that isn't the way it went at least back then.

    Tonya - 5.7/5.7 (cleaner than Nancy and with harder executed jumps)
    Nancy - 5.6/5.7 (sloppy, but pretty skate. Apples and oranges on the day)

    Tonya should've been the rightful bronze medalist here. Nancy had way more mistakes in her free skate than Tonya here, singling 2 of her triple jumps and a fall. Tonya fell attempting a triple axel, does her difficulty not compensate for it?

  • @AdvantageYT

      Tell us you know nothing about skating without telling us you know nothing about skating. You do NOT land triple axel's, the hardest jump of all, by "luck." They take YEARS of training and hard work to even begin to be able to do one, and even today only eight women have ever managed it. Nor did Tonya land the triple axel in "a competition," she landed it in SEVEN competitions, as well as countless times during training.

    • @flightoflightning2505
      @flightoflightning2505 2 месяца назад

      @@theshillneckedlizard8364What do you mean? Commenter here is right. Her triple axel had a strange takeoff. Yes you need strength to pull in the rotation, but when you’re tilted all of your jumps depend on luck. You either push through or fall.
      Tonya Harding only landed the 3A in three competitions. ‘91 Skate America, ‘91 Nationals, and ‘91 Worlds. She never landed one in competition after that.
      She quickly became a practice skater, joining Josee Chouinard and Laetitia Hubert. Josee Chouinard DID land triple axels as well during practice, but never attempted one in competition due to nerves. Tonya Harding did the same.

But it was very obvious that he, as well as the rest of the American commentators, were not Harding fans. Try to know how the scoring works. They skate twice. The first skate is worth 1/3 the total points. The second skate is worth 2/3. So, for the first skate, they take your place and cut it in half. If you come in first, you get half a point. If you come in sixth, that is three points. Like golf, the lowest score wins.
      Nancy came in 2nd for the first skate and Tonya 6th. Now, had Tonya scored higher than Nancy for this skate and came in 3rd, she still would have finished 4th overall. Nancy would have had a total score of 5 points while Tonya had 6, because her not landing the triple axel in the 1st skate hurt big time. I understand your reasoning, and maybe Tonya Harding should have gotten better scores than Kerrigan for this set, but Nancy Kerrigan still would have taken the bronze medal had she finished fourth in the free skate behind Harding, which I think she should have

      Tuula Westra You're thinking of the right person, but she didn't go to jail, nor was she the actual person that attacked the other skater (Nancy Kerrigan).

      Her idiot husband at the time hired a wannabe hitman to attack and disable her competition, the attacked skater was Nancy Kerrigan and all she got was a very bruised up knee. Thanks to that incident and the media circus at the time Tonya was banned from the ice and not allowed to compete again, then sadly she was also shunned by her peers on skating exhibitions. Yet she was one of the greatest and strongest competitors the US ever had in figure skating. A real shame she got married to a guy who only took & made her loose so much in life, because she is a natural on the ice and really worked hard against all odds to achieve her goals with barely no support at all.

      Tuula Westra No, she was not in jail. She was an accessory after the fact. There is no proof she helped to plan the attack. She was a better skater than Nancy Kerrigan and there was no reason for her to attack her.

    LOVE HER but she gave up and wasnt in shape. If she missed the axel and skated great she would have beat Nancy. For some reason she seemed not to care at all how she skated.
