@@LibertyScholar I cannot believe you have Tar for number one. Yuck!
Years from now, when we look back at the storied career of the legendary Cate Blanchett, it is her performance as Lydia Tàr that will probably first come to mind as emblematic of her greatness.
She is a force of nature

Guillermo del Toro is surely a master of his craft.
Your description of After Yang being "Imagine if Collin Farrell's character from The Lobster moved on to world of Her" is all I needed to check out the film. Also, ironically, watched Tar a few days ago, incredible flim and we need an extended director's cut!
If there is a movie that is going to stand the test of time and be a classic 50 years from now,it is 'TAR'.
Thank you for giving me an out of theatre, thinking and thinking and.... for like eternity and still having an out of body experience everytime. Todd Field sure has a thing for the afterlives of criminals which is an untouched subject and thus so strange and creepy.
you guys are my favorite film youtube channel. i have been looking forward to this!
I still think about Aftersun everyday.
My Top 4 of the Past Year:
• Joyland
• Athena
• Hit the Road
• Decision to Leave
Ooooh very fine tastes !! Still cant believe that Joyland is a debut feature
Im happy to say that I watched many of these movies in cinema.
So glad you released this video❤
Every time I keep hearing about Decision To Leave, I keep wanting to watch the movie more and more. I really need to set a date for me to watch it cuz it's about time
This is such a nice and interesting list. Even better, the commentary is so well considered. I've not seen several of these films and look forward to experiencing them. Hopefully, I come away with your joy from having done so. Thank you.
Great picks!
Appreciate hearing from this channel, getting both your perspectives on these movies is always a treat and I myself, having not seen Tar even, thought Tar would be a contender for best film of the year 🤔
Great list!
Surprised to not see Men on this list. One of, if not the most, visceral movie for 2022. The acting, even unspoken, was stellar from both leads. And that nightmare/dreamscape sequence felt reminiscent of Lars von Trier Depression Trilogy (namely Melancholia) without missing the mark and without it being just a visual scene with no depth or context.
Have you ever watched an acclaimed film and, for whatever reason(s), not been able to get into it? This is the problem I'm experiencing with Decision To Leave. The director ranks among my favorites. I just can't seem to click with the film. One day I will. I've found that sometimes happens.
I felt the same! Its very well made and acted. But has a very campy vibe. PCW tried romance but he should definitely stick to thrillers 😅
Yeaaaah, whatched all ten!
Tar was one of my favorite movies
The french movie Athena was my favorite movie of 2022.
I saw all the movies of this list except triangle of sadness which I've heard mixed reviews of it, but I'll check it out now.
W list
The two movies I really liked from 2022 were Eo and Soft and Quiet.
Yes...
seen all except after yang
Tar and Aftersun are still on my list to watch but my movie of the year was Everything, Everywhere, All at Once
People that still hate on The Batman are just doing it to be contrarian.
Hard year to make a top 10, so many good films. Bardo and Broker are top 10 for me.
Based
You should probably put a sound filter on your voice that reduces the S noises because they are quite harsh, it could come from a lot of different things and de-essing filters aren't that hard to find/use
We all enjoy your videos man !! Just try to make one video a month 🤠
Has anybody mentioned Speak no Evil? Not only my best film of 2022 but one of the best I've ever seen.
Idk if I'm gonna get ridicule or if what I'm about to say is a hot take, but why the hell Pinnochio sounds so fucking British? He sounds more British than the cricket
Very blunt and trivial list of films
Am I the only one who doesn't like Decision to Leave...? The plot was complete nonsense and it was very pretentious. I also didn't believe the relationship *AT ALL* . Why did either of them like eachother? She was pretty cute ... but other than that ... I literally see nothing. Especially not an explanation for his infatuation with her.
I just didn't buy it. And that kind of ruins all the great cinematography and substance in the writing. It makes a romance movie *not work* .
Tar was a really well made movie that was a complete waste of time to watch. Definitely not for me.
I didn't like pinocchio at all tbh
I really wished you started your list with Tár at the beginning. Rather than me wasting my time sifting through the other crappy movies that you recommended here on this shitty list.
Awful year for movies
Tar is really not that good.
Why do movies look so depressing nowdays?
Hard disagree about Everything, Everywhere. For all of its "breath of fresh air" that Hollywood seems to think it is, I found it predictable. It feels as if the Daniels took Harmon's story circle and filled in the blanks. Oh, and what is the great insight? The ultimate reason? Love. Yep. Thanks, I would never have guessed. It felt like a middling Marvel movie (a movie made by ticking off entries on a list). I enjoyed it while I was watching it, but forgot it instantly when it was over.
