I'm streaming Cities Skylines 2 right now over on twitch.tv/squirrel
We'll be playing Friday, Saturday, & Sunday - hope to see you there!
Great to see you playing the Cities Skylines series again!
I haven't seen this channel in a while! I'm glad I found it again
In addition to what Squirrel said: if you're playing on a 2060, 1660, or lower, run the game in fullscreen. Most the complaints people have about the framerate is because they're trying to run 1440p and 2160p in borderless window, but running in windowed or borderless means Windows will be constantly rendering your desktop and everything else you have open, along with the game, and that massively increases the GPU load. Also now that the game is fully release, make sure your drivers are up to date.
It doesn't only depend on your GC, good luck with closing absolutely everything and pumping everything into the GPU.
after seeing this video i'm getting more and more excited. Stuff like the parallel road building mode, especially banking roads (as can be seen at 6:46) is super helpfull .. I don't know how many times this kind of stuff drove me crazy in CS1.
looking very much forward to Paul streaming this as well as lots of videos
Mate great video - do more of these and maybe walkthroughs of building cities
I was really hoping they'd have native pedestrian under and overpasses. Those really help with traffic (or at least they did in Skylines 1). But I suppose now the modding community has something to do. 😁
since they've basically integrated most of the Precision Engineering and Network Management mods, it should be fairly easy to handmake them, way easier than in CS1
Especially if they removed those gravel embankments that stick out from the bottom of roads into the terrain at an angle from Cities:Skylines 1 which would clip into pedestrian tunnel entrances if you tried to create them in the zoning grid squares right next to the road @@thesteelrodent1796
You mean you want homeless people under the overpass? Great idea. Will add tons of realism for big cities.
@@Six_Gorillion Now that you mention it, social services expenditures would be a very interesting factor for city happiness. 🧐
Native pedestrians... Lmao😂 homeless people?
Honestly feared CS2 would've been a "back to basics" game where we had to wait for mods to get it up to the same playable lever where CS1 has been for the last few years, but I'm glad they've listened to the community and implemented a bunch of stuff from what's become "mandatory mods". Once you've gotten used to using Precision Engineering and Network Management, it's tough to play without them, but I wonder why they did all the nice road tools, and then just tossed in roundabouts like an afterthought. Would've been better if they copied Transport Fever 2's roundabout tool (which works basically the same as the roundabout mod for CS1), which is so much nicer when you want something more complex than just a basic circle. The road construction looks really nice, though - way better than what we've got in other games. As someone who's trained in CAD, the old drag and pray road tools were really frustrating, 3 pt curves are more my jam.
But the performance issues are to be expected when they still run on Unity. There's just no way a heavy game like this will ever have decent performance on that engine.
I agree with you especially on the Unity engine. This community would have had to wait longer if Colossal switched coding to the Unreal engine.
These settings have helped a lot in making this playable thank you.
Can't wait to watch you play more of this. One of my favourite games. Traffic behaviour is something you could review. Do they still drive in only one lane on a 6 lane highway?
They do not. They'll actually actively change lanes
Thanks Nick
The game interface looks and feels a lot better
Finally I've been waiting for your next video.
Can't wait for City Skylines 2
09:56 Pathways not railways 😭🙂
I need your help. Do I need an expensive gaming mouse for msfs Xbox or just one with a dongle?
What is the goal in this game? Is it like rollercoaster tycoon where the goal is to make money and have a 5star park? Whats the point to this game? How do you start? You know what i mean?
Is this game online?
Hi Squirrel, Isn't this game out on console, If i get the PS5 version then It's Gonna run Great
And we won't have to worry about frame rate, Is the console version out yet, If so I will get
that instead. Cause it will also look as good as the PC one I guess, There won't be a lot of
Difference will there. Great video mate, It will learn me how to play the game when i get it.
Great Video, helped me out big time, my city looks hella bad compared to yours, I got one big city its very bad, still on profit tho, I restart now, and make it like yours
these options have changed in game now
Hi are you going to do any more lives on skylines ?
Where is Tony.
Great, very helpful, I guess
The game has changed a lot
You gonna do a full let's play series on this?
Never will
Can you start TMCN again, childhood videos I miss.
Lower settings even on a 4090ti? Wow
The devs did admit that they shat the bed on performance optimisation.
3090
Yep, Stutter Sky Lines
@@racingweirdook, it's still not optimized.
@@lillywho They shat the bed on optimisation? They did the same thing in the first game and never really got around to fixing it. I highly doubt performance will get better in any substantial capacity.
Nice game
Could you show How to tuen a profit
"We're gonna need another crem!"
Looks like fun
On avg how ling is it taking for your game load? CS1 avg is 5 -9 min.
I must have a potato computer bc mine is 9 - 15 minutes
My (heavily modded) CS1 rarely loads faster than 15 minutes, running off my 2 GB/s M.2 drive. And without performance mods it can't load at all because it uses way too much memory.
What GPU do you have Squirrel ? would give a ton of context to your settings
THX
His spec sheet says 3090. I’m guessing this game is gonna be a performance hog with the amount of detail that’s in it.
His spec sheet must be out of date because I’m pretty sure he’s running a 4090(ti)?
Biffa was pointing out the game in a windowed mode was running at his desktop resolution and not the reso setting he had set. He was running 4k when it was set at 1440 and he bumped the game to 4k and then back down to 1440 to actually get 1440. Not the only game that swaps resolutions on ya when you launch but at least the other game shows it was running 4k when it decided to launch that way.
@@Fivemonthslater1nope he called the 4090 a wasted of money
@@racingweirdo all of the 4000 cards are a total waste. They're a tiny upgrade over the 3000 cards and no game exist that can utilize them. Even on a 3090, running most games at 2160p you rarely fully load the GPU
What do you mean “why is motion blur in games” it’s so things that are moving look like they are, per object motion blur especially is amazing
in theory you're right, if it was implemented that way, but in games, motion blur means it holds each each frame for a fraction of a second while it draws the next to make movement look more smooth on low framerates, which causes a blur effect as the frames slightly overlap. Because of how it's done, that effect is applied to everything, not just stuff in motion, and thus you end up with a blurry mess. On any computer capable of more than 15 fps, games look a lot better with motion blur disabled
@@thesteelrodent1796 incorrect, many modern game use per object motion blur which only blurs moving individual parts of a scene, you are referring to old fashion implementations that’s not used in modern games, for an example of per object motion blur check Red Dead Redemption 2, motion blur should not be disabled if it’s per object
This is not done by just holding a frame you are based on outdated functionality, per object motion blur is actually complex and has nothing to do with old school implementation
you need to get into some other games sunkenland ark etc.
Wow having to lock the FPS to 30 sounds like an absolute disaster in terms of optimisation, quite dissapointing to hear.
Really hoping this is because it’s a near-release version, and it’ll be fixed in a release day patch
Yeah I feel like there has to be something that is eating all that performance that they can change or fix or whatever because games like Transport Fever 2 look really similar or even better sometimes and do not need such insane hardware to run. I wish they just released this into EA, and pushed the full release to the next year like the console version. Its early access anyway in everything but name but now they will probably disappoint a lot of people and will not even have the excuse of early access.
with Unity it's generally impossible to optimize it or get stable framerate. That engine absolutely hammers the GPU to do even simple graphics, and using it for a very heavy game like this, you're never going to get a decent framerate. For most people, CS1 will run at 20-25 fps without performance mods, despite actually having a fairly low CPU and GPU load.
@@thesteelrodent1796 this is not true at all. Unity is a leading graphical engine, people have forgotten this since the whole pricing scandal. Unity still is and will continue to be one of the most powerful graphical engines we have available.
Games on unity can easily be optimised, this game is just a sign of yet again lazy optimisation standards and a rushed game. If Devs paid half as much attention on optimisation as they did the DLC model we'd be fine.
@@Arthur-jx8bmUnity is trash for simulation games...
How important will the cpu be?
The one good bit of news is that according to City Planner Plays Benchmark video CPU has the least impact of CPU, GPU and RAM. Apparently GPU is all. So you might be able to get away with a very good card paired with a 2600x. Hope so anyway, as I have a 2600x! Regardless though, I'm sticking with CS1 for now and will pick this up some time mid-next year, when the game has been finished and patched up fully. CS1 is more than enough to still hold my attention for now.
@@PeterEvansPeteTakesPictures that would be good for me.
RTX 3070, but an quite old Ryzen 5 1600 X.
Advantage is, that you won't need 120 FPS in this type of game.
I'm exited.
we miss johny phoney
Pls give my summer car another go
great tips
I just started making videos about this game too
waiting until they fix performance issues.. Its being forced out the door when its not ready so I'm expecting mixed reviews from the start.
10% off now you tell me... And my 360 ti is not happy. thanks for the tips.. also top video thanks
wow years since i listened to squirrel
turn off v-sync for like a mad fps boost
vsync doesn't do anything with G or D sync monitors
How do I reduce noise pollution?
Getting started with Cities Skylines 2: Install Cities Skylines 1
So I guess Phoney Tony’s Big Ambitions is no more?
Never has been
step 1) purchase an rtx 5090ti.
Cashgrab, this game
..care to elaborate? Honest question because I loved CS1 and wondering why you would say this as I'm only getting enthousiast when watching this video.
@@ardonjr I bet you didn't play the Sims 3 after investing in the Sims 2.
sorry, I don't understand what The Sims has to do with Cities Skylines. Instead of giving such vage answers, maybe you could just answer the honest question? You're not particularly helpful right now
@@Sebazzz1991 no one "invests" in video games unless you work for the dev or publisher
@@ardonjr Bring a lot of expansion packs on the market, then bring out a new version and require (eventually) everyone to buy the same expansion packs again.
But dam it, how bad graphics looks in this game… but everyone is getting paid bot to tell that… :(
STUTTER SKYLINES. Yet another unpolished game at release. Having to disable features is pretty pathetic. I wouldn't waste my money on it. Wait until it's fixed, and if it doesn't get fixed, not gonna buy it
Stutter Skylines? But it's called City.... Ooooh wait a minute. You're doing a play on words. Stutter. Because the frame rate stutters. And Skylines because it's called City Skylines 2 but it stutters. I see. Good one sir. Stutter Skylines 2. That's a really funny one.
alaskan road truckers are out and airportsim and so many more and yet here you are playing the most boring game ever made lmao come on now
