Say that family member also knows you have the power to *help* them get *away* with a god damn *crime* they'd go to you in a second. What if the sheriff had a younger relative who went to the high school and had *killed* Thomas Brown out of jealousy. It would give a reason why the sheriff held evidence.A strong one too tbh. I live 30 minutes away from Canadian. I can tell you that Nathan Lewis used to be a sheriff in my hometown, Perryton, and he has ALWAYS been crooked. I truly believe someone on the football team had something to do with it and that Lewis helped covered it up. His brother, Toby, was one of my teachers growing up. Really messed up story. Crazy you’re covering this!
So one thing I noticed was you never mentioned that one of his teachers committed suicide right after his remains were found and I believe (I could be wrong) that he used the same gun and the bullet casing they found. Alot of people believe it to be the teacher who did it.
Abby Cochran the teachers son was one of the kids that was first interviewed. They thought the teacher who killed himself, his kid has something to do with it.
I almost guarantee that if they brought in say like the NYPD for example, the case would be solved in 2 hours flat because they have experience with big homicide cases. But, instead the town just had this tiny little sheriffs office who had probably never experienced anything more than speeding tickets. Quick point to make, myself living in a small town there are tons of back roads and side roads to take without being seen by many and police in small towns stick to the same areas making it easy to get around them without being seen.

@@JobberJim thomas found pleasure in wearing adult diapers. all his friends who he opened to about it, accepted him and didn't shame him, but the sheriff always vocalised that it was disgusting. he was always convinced that tom was gay and ran away with an older man. the second the private investigator, clein, interviewed the sheriff on his thoughts about tom, the immediate answer was that he was gay. the motive could have been that he was discusted by tom. but also the year before tom went missing, he had an altercation with the sheriff near the movie theatres. there was a whole group of teens involved but the sheriff swore at them, behaviing unprofessionally, but only tom was taken in the car. when tom came home he went to his mother about it, and penny reported the sheriff. people claim his motive is that he was holding a grudge since that year. tbh i think the sheriff could have played a part in toms murder. he may not have killed him, but at the very least played a huge role in the cover up. but then again the criminal is never who you think it will be

I’m sorry i know that i have already said some stuff but on i believe Wednesday there was a fire that was started by “leaked oil” exactly where they found thomas. The sheriff use to work at an oil field before he was in law enforcement so he would know how to unhook the tubes in order to start the fire.

A lot of people from around here believe it was the sheriff that did it. It came out that it was a place “he had searched” none of this adds up and is still something that many of us around Canadian are still worried about. You can drive around our town and see all the “what happened to thomas?” Signs. Heartbreaking.

It’s a super sad story and living two hours away from Canadian it’s an extremely big deal to so many people in our area. One very odd thing you left out was the day after they discovered god remains a man from Canadian killed himself using the same kind of shell casing that was found in Thomas car. Also it is believed that the Sheriff has something to do with it, due to the fact that certain places weren’t searched. It’s awful to think that someone could do this to someone else’s everything. There is a 3 hour podcast over this case and it is definitely worth the listen!

I live about an hour away from Canadian Texas, and One thing that I noticed you didn’t mention in this case is that Thomas’s brother was driving Around with one of the sheriff officers and tucker used to work for the city and they drove past the area the car was in and noticed that it was open when it usually stays closed at all times, and the sheriff he was with just brushed it off and then not long after that, Christian’s father found it in that exact area from the helicopter
Also there was a photo that looked like it was from the angle of a dash cam that the sheriff took to penny and showed it to her but then it just suddenly disappeared and according to the sheriff’s office there was never a photo.
This case really hit me for some reason tonight. I can tell that Thomas was so genuine and sweet, and something definitely happened at the gas station the time he was getting gas. Do you know if Penny was able to see if he did get gas that night and how much? Or was there something else he could of gotten? I wish that the police department pinged his phone the night he went missing. I really feel like they could of found out what may of happened. This case breaks my heart and nobody deserves to be hurt in any way. Also, I can see why Nathan Lewis wanted to keep his evidence hidden so he wouldn't have to tell his family mixed facts, but every family deserves to know what happened and what kind of evidence they could have.
