    Honestly it was quite powerful to hear Sam say that he was proud of Manti and where he is today. I get the impression that a lot of men in the FLDS are searching for another man’s approval, so for Manti to get another male to validate how proud he is of him now that he’s out of that community was super awesome. Thanks for sharing!

    Thank you so much Manti for being raw and vulnerable!

    I am so pleased for these young men and women who are able to overcome what is clearly an abusive upbringing - whether or not they are able to see it that way now. I have a feeling when they start to raise their own children they will suddenly be aware of what they missed out on and how limiting that kind of upbringing really was. Kudos to all of you who can move on in life successfully and aren't afraid to let others know how valuable it can be to get the help you need.

    It’s great Manti’s come through such difficulties, but heartbreaking that he had to go through so much. I’m an intruder here-not LDS, not religious, but I’m fascinated by how good LDS people are in spite of harsh upbringing. I understand that what seems joyless to me may well have a lot of joy and connectedness to it. Just know you have my good wishes.

    I’ve only just started watching y’all’s channel, and I’ve been listening to all the videos from the earliest to most recent! I have to say, it’s very cool to see your own journey, Sam. From the way you speak about your home community in the beginning-a little more neutral, a little more tepid-to now calling a spade a spade (“so the responsibility was on YOU to be righteous enough. yep.”); it’s just awesome to watch over time. Much love to y’all from a Texas earthy hippie dippie pagan. 💛💛💛

    Manti stay consistent is key and I’m glad you said it! I struggle with that as well, and it’s so easy to think “Ok it’s all under control I can relax”. You’re amazing and you’re really awesome for being transparent about your struggles because for anyone growing up in a situation where asking for help is stigmatized it’s powerful to see a successful man who is ready to stand up and say “Look, I’ve been there”.

      I should clarify, I would never say the normal LDS church is wrong. It teaches so much peace and kindness. It just wasn’t right for me. Most of my family is still LDS and I would support anyone in any way I can so they can worship and come closer to Heavenly Father.
      Mental health is a life long battle (Manti should not let his guard down and give himself grace if he struggles or even thinks about suicide again (just don’t do it))

    This is being said with all love and care and hope for further growth not at a critical or judging comment- the term “illegal alien” is harmful to both citizens and non citizens of the US. They are immigrants, asylum seekers, strong people who’ve made an incredibly hard journey for the hope of a better life. Just like everyone leaving the FLDS they are leaving unsafe or potentially life threatening conditions in search of a healthier and safer life. I love this channel because it helps me more deeply understand social, economic and faith differences of people who I live in the world alongside, so I hope this comment is taken as an extension of that mission of understanding, acceptance and growing out of harmful systems of thinking. (I don’t think harm was meant in the verbiage at all- Y’all just seem to be advocates for harm reduction so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to say something!💗)
    Thank you Mantis for sharing your story and thank you Sam and Melissa for creating such an open space here.

    I’m a new viewer and have been watching many videos to catch up. I was born and raised LDS and so happy to see that your family has progressed and that Sam embraced our faith. But I’ve since learned that you’re no longer LDS after having been endowed and sealed in the temple. That causes me great concern for you. I know… I’m only one person and my comment will likely be lost in the long thread of comments… but I just needed to express my sadness for you. I hope you one day return to the LDS faith and that you continue to find happiness. I just feel sad that you’ve chosen to turn your backs on the promises you’ve made in the temple.

    • @GrowingUpinPolygamy
      @GrowingUpinPolygamy  Год назад +15

      We completely understand your sadness for us, because we too had felt that for family members that left while we were still believing. And while we never want to cause anyone pain or sadness (we have a lot of family members that feel the same way you do), we have to be true to our spiritual journey and what we feel is best for our family. We have not "turned our backs" on the promises we have made in the temple, but now view them differently than we did before. We are grateful that you are enjoying our channel, as we are always hoping to stay kind and respectful to those of the FLDS and LDS faith, and hope that you can still enjoy our content regardless of whether or not we share the same beliefs. =)

    I am from a " culty Christianity" church. Not Mormon. Charismatic Christianity. This sounds JUST LIKE MY PAST CHURCH! - minus plural marriage and Prarie Dresses. BTW I do think the dresses are pretty...but blue jeans , an oversized men's T shirt and Tennis shoes has ALWAYS been my comfort clothing of choice. We did have closely monitored " arranged match making" which usually progressed to marriage. Although I was never personally exposed to Mormon-ism , there is alot of common practices. I did have a friend who was raised LDS. They were from Utah. I'm not sure if they were FLDS. This friend did mention Prarie dresses and the " Jesus Jammies" or under garmets. She and a friend in the religion decided to get married and escape together. They succeeded. They were married in the temple with the rituals. Only a couple of her family members were " pure enough" to attend the marriage. This friend did mention there was alot of sexual abuse with the young girls.They had no protection BC law enforcement were Mormon too. This friend also had a brother who was gay and would have " hook ups" with an ELDER or someone who was high up in the ranks of the church - a married man with LOTS of children. Anyhoo....your channel brings alot of comfort and healing to my soul. Thank you!

    Ah-ha, I now see one of the reasons all the money is going straight to the church, they can say it is all donations & not have to pay any tax on it, they are saving 15 to 20 % in no taxes as a religious organization with all that free labor. But, they do buy the houses & cars & clothing & food & pay for medical & they own everything, the people don't actually own anything. Lots of reasons for that too. If everyone lived well off it would be a great system but, I think they learned to be resourceful with what they were divied out.

    Think about all those people being told to fast from sexual relations & no marriages, it is not even human to dictate those crazy things; they must have started wondering if it is not them that is crazy but the one who got himself put in prison.
