My heart ached listening to Elise’s experience with wsj. I didn’t think I could hate that despicable piece of Jeffs shit more than I already do. His absolute pleasure in torturing people, especially children, has always been plain to see.

I don't believe that Warren is insane. Using the word 'insane' insinuates that he couldn't help his actions. Warren 100% knew and knows what he is doing. He completely lacks empathy, he's a cruel narcissistic psychopath. He absolutely gets off on the way he psychologically tortures people.
Elise, you are an absolutely incredible woman. I am so sorry for your experiences as a child. I wish you nothing but love and healing 💫

I actually think he is not "normal". I guess Jeffs is not only a narcissist, maybe even has Narcissistic Personality Disorder, which is far worse than just being a narcissist, it's a severe, incurable mental illness. But he probably is also a sociopath and/or a psychopath. Somebody who has anti social behaviour, doesn't have the ability to put himself into the place of others, can't imagine how others feel and enjoys hurting others in various ways. He is severely mentally ill, I think, but not in a way that he couldn't be punished for the evil things he did.

It’s the culture, and it’s so very hard to understand why parents wouldn’t stand up to the bully that Warren was. The culture was what scared her parents into submission, and the fear that their family would loose their eternal blessings. I’m so sorry this happened to you Elise.♥️

I have so many thoughts. At first I was nodding my head at the familiar stories of aunt Lydia, and Alta academy. Then I’m horrified a child would be subject to such mental abuse, to I really admire how Sam has so much compassion not only for Elise, but for her parents and other members of the Flds. My heart really goes out to you Elise.
The thing that bothers me the most is what Warren did made the people who left essentially not want any religion at all.

Your mother knew you weren’t stealing those things, just borrowing them, right? Both your parents let you down in my opinion, if your father let you get lectured and shamed for theft. I had a few instances while going through school where neither my mother or father stood up for me. One time when I was only 7 years old in the second grade. It is devastating. I still can’t relate it to my husband to this day without crying, and I am almost 70 years old! I wasn’t raised in your faith; bad parenting can happen anywhere and everywhere. My heart bleeds for you and I hope you know, you did nothing to deserve that and should have had parents to stand up for you. In my case it was just my mother was a coward who didn’t want to get into an uncomfortable (to her) position, regardless of the trauma and shame I had to endure. My father was just kind of emotionally absent. All we can do now is try to be better people/parents than they were and break the cycle and not make the same mistakes.

I also feel bad for all the kids who only ever got to go to a horrid little school created by the monster we know as Warren Jeffs. My heart aches for anyone who suffered like this. Sounds like Elise's parents were also shamed in this incident. I have always wondered how the Dads in this system let this monster take their little girls. I guess this is a piece of insight into how much control that monster had over everyone.

Even though I have never been in a high demand religion, I feel like we have some big things in common, Elise. I was extensively bullied by both kids and adults (mostly teachers and other kids’ moms) when I was a kid, and I prob made a very easy target, as I went undiagnosed w/ ADD and autism. I was definitely noticeably atypical, plus teachers were always scolding me for “forgetting”my homework or for not remembering something or other, and kids really notice and are enabled by that dynamic
I was singled out so often, I disassociated for most of my k-12. I graduated high school without even knowing how to do any math beyond multiplication bc I zoned out for so much of the time. So much internalized, even though my conscious mind did realize that it wasn’t right, how I was treated. When the entire 4th grade got headlice, it moved through the entire school, but only I was singled out months later, by all the room Mom’s for my class, who told my mom I couldn’t go on the field trip bus with the rest of the class- everyone else could, but I was formally excluded. I didn’t care about the kids so much, but I had really been looking forward to that cool bus. We tried 4 different Girl Scout troops before I was allowed to give up, because they (both Mom’s and kids) were so awful to me. Our family also was not wealthy and we lived in a very wealthy area. My parents had wanted me to get to go to wealthy kid public school.
I really identify with what Sam and Melissa were saying, about seeing things differently once we become parents. It’s so easy to gaslight ourselves (ex: it must not really have been all that bad- I’m probably exaggerating it in my mind) and it’s much less upsetting in the immediate short term, to minimize our own traumas we endured, but when you’re faced with an innocent child whose innocence you can see and observe, you realize you didn’t deserve what happened to you, any more than these other precious children would, if it had happened to them.
You are what brave wants to be, when it grows up, Elise💜⚡️
I wish you many blessings, and plenty of joy, right along with all this emotional heavy lifting you’re doing.

We, as parents, should be willing to take a stand and die on that hill in order to shield our children. These stories are a testament to what brainwashing can result in.
Side note; I wouldn't doubt if Warren Jeff's is a clinical psychopath. The behaviors reported in these stories goes beyond bullying and certainly point to that. I don't suppose anyone would know if he's been diagnosed as such...

Listening to how Else was treated by Principal Warren Jeffs; was a bit triggered for me. My uncle Jim (through marriage) who I hated (because he treated me terribley when I was 5; when we lived with him after being in a woman's shelter). Was my teacher at a small Christian school when I was 11; accused me of "PURPOSELY messing up on written spelling tests FOR ATTENTION". Because I could orally spell most the words correctly. He shamed me and put me in detention for months; I missed special school activities. When I was 15 we moved to a different city; where I was diagnosed with severe DYSLEXIA. That is why I struggled with written spelling tests. 🤦‍♀️

Speaking of the “Home Economics” tapes…it had to be “revealed” if someone was “worthy” to receive a set. My 2 oldest daughters were deemed worthy to PURCHASE a set, but were given the strict instructions to keep them locked away from their dad and I. As parents we were forbidden to hear a single word of them, and if necessary, leave our home so they could listen without fear of being overheard. (Like I could even stand the sound of that disgusting voice, and would even want to hear it) I think he was just trying to start the process of causing division in our family.
I still have that set of CDs.

Such a small world! My fiance works with polygamist who come from Short Creek... I don't like giving away too much because I respect their privacy, but it's interesting how I am born & raised in Utah, never been LDS, but had some good friends who were Morman & my fiance is connected with some of the Jeff's family members at his job. They are great people, some still practice polygamy, but in a modern way, it's just so interesting to me how we are connected with so many different people from different ways of life.

Jeffs is a sadist and a very perverted one. He enjoyed it for very disgusting reasons. And the scary thing is that he is still exerting control over his followers to this day. That sadistic enioyment he gets from making people suffer is all he has now. It's why life has gotten so much worse for people who still believe he's the prophet. Their misery is the only joy he has left. I will never understand why they still let him communicate with the outside world.

Off the topic, Sam and Melissa, after you left, the FLDS and LDS faiths, respectively, did your families of origin experience any negative impacts or consequences? I’m thinking if there was fear of shaming in this video over the taking items from the school, a child leaving the community may bring some consequences.

When I was a kid, the nuns did this same kind of stuff all of the time. They lived by the humiliation rule. Pure evil.

I would like to know more about “men’s leg wrestling”.
Was it old-timey-wrestling on the floor? Sounds awkward.
Was it something more “sinful”? As in “the FLDS has more swingers than you think”?

No you basically lay side by side to your opponent leg to head. Each raises their legs 3 times and on the 3rd count you wrap one leg with your opponents leg and try to take them out. It’s basically like arm wrestling but with legs. My kids were doing it yesterday.

The false prophet Warren is going to be held accountable for all the evil things he did to people not only in this world, but in the world to come. This story makes me hurt for her so much.

Elise mentioned her stepmom was a teacher at the school. Was she working there at the time? Did that factor in in any way?

One thing I've noticed in interviews is how hard Warren holds onto silly grudges. I know this isn't an unusual trait in humans, but the grudges he holds are super extra petty. My assumption is that there are a very small number of troublemakers because the repercussions are so great. So, he takes the slightest thing and endlessly punishes (tortures) someone for it. Publicly for extra shame! Naturally, this makes others more likely to go along with things and keep their heads down.
Haha, sorry, this is obvious, and it's so late to comment. I'm just curious how often people do things they should be in trouble for and if he reacts the same. Ironically, I have yet to hear of a deserved punishment. I'm also curious if he's harder on girls or boys? Nearly certain he's harder on women than men.
