Picking a direction is a tough one, if it were mine I’d probably go a more traditional route. I like a flathead but a Y Block or old school hemi would be cool too. (Just no small block Chevy that’s super lame) I think one of the smartest things you could do is go with an aftermarket complete chassis kit. Not only do you save a lot of time it’s safer with its modern components/materials plus your suspension geometry is all figured out and it’s a proven concept. At the end of the day it’s probably cheaper as well. With your following it wouldn’t surprise me if contacted Speedway Motors you could get some kind of partnership with them. They have everything you to build one of those.

If you're going to replace the canvas roof what you do is to fix the canvas and secure the edges. Then you totally soak the canvas with water and paint the canvas with mineral based lacquer while it's still wet. Once the paint and the canvas has dried, it will have shrunk to a tight fit. It's the way the old railway carriages were done as well a lot of old wooden boats. Just FYI

I vote for a 4-cyl motor, maybe a Pinto motor but it could be interesting to use a later Japanese motor from an 80s Datsun or even a Honda. It seems too radical, but remember the early rodders wanted an Offenhauser engine with all the hi-tech features--if they had a modern Honda engine they'd be using that for sure. Use a junkyard T5 trans, banjo rear end please!

My old craftsman tool set came with a set of 5 square drive sockets, where they look like 8 sided sockets. I use them for random stuff, where regular sockets don’t work, but never worked on an actual square nut. The square drive sockets probably used to be really common in mechanics sets.
And I know speedway sells model T frames, fully boxed rails, for pretty cheap, like $500. But you have to do all the mounts and measuring yourself.

Any color you want as long as it’s black only applies to the really old model T’s. This was due to the black paint would dry faster and it held up better. A few years into production paint technology advanced enough that they were offered in quite a few different colors. Red is completely possible as an original color.
I learned this when I went to the Henry Ford museum myself standing right next to the 15 millionth model T, there was an employee there giving information about it. He was also explaining how stuff worked using the cut away in the same building.

@25:45 thru @26:05,, Thank you Josh. Keeping that old body as it always has been is awesome. A few period correct mods would be OK but Henry had a good idea when these rolled off the assembly line.

1:03:54 that horn probably works fine. What I bet is going on is dirty contacts on the inside. Luckily from what I see in the video, it can be opened up so you can probably easily fix it!

My Grandmother learned to drive in a Model T at eight years old sometime around 1920. My great Grandfather bought it new in Sacramento CA and drove it home 35 miles, at the time there wasn't a highway to where they lived so it was all dirt roads.

Josh I'm sure you've seen Jacob's (Puddin's Fab Shop) Model A and I like the way he did his. The way he brought it more into the modern era but kept its outer appearance fairly close to stock. At least more so than many do when they're rodding one. As always, thanks for letting us tag along with y'all and I pray that you guys & anyone reading this in the comments has a very Happy Thanksgiving! Many thoughts and prayers for safe travels & many memories and/or traditions made! God bless you all! ~ Scott 💙🙏🏼

This model T has became one of favorite builds from you . I'd love to see a 2.3 turbo engine build with a 5 sp ... specially in this that'd be cool . So many people cut them and put v8's in them I'm a fan of something different.

@@SleeperdudeJosh every pic you showed as the ones you like have a chopped roof. I think if you don’t chop the roof it will be like sitting in a low fish tank or green house. That’s just a lot of tall glass…

I've found if you hook a drill up to the hood pins you can get them out a lot easier. A little PB Blaster don't hurt either

My preference would be a turbocharged 2.3L with a 5-speed and an aftermarket chassis.
Of course, it would also need improved front suspension and a 9-inch out back.

Those fenders have more stress cracks than parents with teenagers!
I saw a turtle deck track racer T at back to the 50s a couple decades ago that had a 4 cylinder hemi from a late 70s toyota? in it. Looked and sounded so unique. Can't wait to see more of this build!

I really like it without the fenders. It looks really cool. I would lower it too, get some wider wheels and put a 4-cyl to make it a daily driver. Maybe turbo, but a small one just for that extra kick. But as always, great content, great family, lots of talent!

If you could find a flathead, That is the way I would go. I grew up in the flathead era. My first car was a 1936 Ford 5 window coupe with a rumble seat. I used a 1942 ford truck engine bored and had Denver truck heads, because it raised the compression ratio. Drove that car for 2 years. Then purchased a 1951 Ford 2 door sedan. Have a great day.

Hey Josh, two things. My local true value hardware store carries square head nuts, brand new. Also, I have a clean Ford 272 Y-block sitting in my shop. It needs to be bored out due to scoring in cylinder 3. That could make it a 292. I tore it down, cleaned it, and put it back together. It was running when I took it back out. Let me know if you are interested.
