      I don't know what it means to get used to war. If you mean the childish bullshit with people wanting to shoot guns at people, and play soldier, then yeah that is something we don't want. If you mean get used to it as a thing which we shouldn't prepare for and expect? Then no. Because it's inevitable, unavoidable in some form or another, and a part of human nature. And trying to be pacifist is childish. But I don't think that's your position, but I know that's the origins of pacifism, is people listening to good arguments against war, and taking them to the extreme.
      In all seriousness my man, I hope that Ukraine is liberated from Russia, and that you all can celebrate by the end with a free and united Ukraine. Including the Donbass, and Crimean regions. Love and support from America.

      @kateryna5284 2 года назад +7

      @@I_like_big_bombs I totally agree with you. Actually, for me it is one of the most interesting topics to talk about as I study international security. In my opinion, pacifism is a utopia. Like anarchy. War as a phenomenon can end only when the very essence of man changes, but evolution takes countless millions of years.
      By “don’t get used to it” I meant that people get over the initial shock and start to treat war as status quo. That’s also in our nature. We (Ukrainians) made the same mistake after 2014 as a matter of fact. Many people decided it’s easier to ignore the fact our boys die in the frontlines, but we’ve been at war for 8 years. I talk not about our politicians (although I have many questions for them as well), but about people who got on with their lives as if nothing happened and didn’t draw any conclusions. Thankfully, most of the those I know are responsible and do their best to help in every way possible. EU decided to ignore this as well (it’s not an accusation, I understand that their priority is to make gas for their people cheaper). But our partners got used to the fact that russia annexed Crimea pretty quickly. Also not an accusation, I understand they have their problems to deal with, but it hurts. I was born in Crimea myself. I still have relatives there. Haven’t seen them since then.
      But we need the support of international community because it is one of our main strengths.
      For me it is serious. I live 35 km from front line. Both my parents are in the armed forces, my boyfriend as well. I am kinda a girl 20 years of age so I decided I will be more useful in humanitarian headquarters. The kids I see every day.. it’s just painful, they are so devastated, left without their parents. Nobody deserves it. We need to do our utmost to end it. I know we will win, the question is only how many lives it’s going to take. And thank you for supporting us

We are depending on Russia for energy, we are depending on the US for any military development, we are depending on China for our industry. We have to regain our independence. We must not allow anyone to sabotage this, we must look into our own mistakes and fix them. We are not treated only by Putin or Erdogan, who both want to expand (look at what is happening in Cyprus, Putin is basically doing what mr Erdogan is trying to do), we are also threatened internally. The problem with people today, especially in the west is people not feeling empathy towards people they cannot physically see. As an American, I always hear people saying the war is not our problem because it doesn't involve "Americans" or it's far away. They'd rather compare the Ukrainian war to high gas prices or baby food shortages, I find it incredibly sad that people would rather save already well-off Americans 20$ than send aid to Ukraine and save "foreign" lives. Just because someone wasn't born in our country we don't feel as much empathy towards them, at least comparatively to the empathy we feel towards our own local people, I personally believe it's because humans have a hard time visualizing things on a large scale and can't comprehend something they've never personally seen with their own eyes. Try breaking this habit and place yourself in the shoes of others, not just in the Ukraine war, but also in things like politics, see the world from every perspective!

      If you want to force people into action, you have to relate the deaths of strangers to something that overlaps with their interests.

      As an American I have to say I am one of “those people” it’s not that I am a barbarian or hate Ukrainians, but in my opinion a stable USA with less inflation and a stronger economy is more important then the fate of Ukraine, yes this is influenced by my personal wants, but I also hold that it is better for the world as a whole to have a stable US, the fallout of inflation (from Ukraine but also other failed US policy) will be hitting us all sooner than later.

      @maxnoname7712 Год назад +1

      @@johngalt5166 Sorry for basically replying to a comment you don't even remember you've left. But...
      As a Ukrainian I think it's important to understand that this invasion isn't just about fate of Ukraine as a state, your economy and prices in your store. If we were to fail, it both gives a signal that nuclear threats work better than any international law (that otherwise would call in peacekeepers) AND that Russia can continue with their imperialism, maybe even threatening NATO nations. Well, that's on top of Ukrainian nation being suppressed and forcefully culturally assimilated into Russia, but I guess that's the part you don't care about.
      Something like Moldova 100% would get attacked after Ukraine. Another war in Europe would start from the very same threat - imperialistic Russia. Invading Baltic countries by cutting off their land supply chains through Belarus and Kaliningrad oblast, surprisingly, has more chances of happening then some might think in case of Russia succeeding here. After all, if international laws didn't work, if UN didn't work, Budapest memorandum didn't work, how can anyone be certain that NATO will?
      It might start a race for obtaining nuclear weapons asap, as no other organization can guarantee integrity of your national border and independence.
      So I advise you think of that as an investment in peace of the whole world and economic stability later on. If not dealt with now, will have to deal with it later, possibly on a larger scale. Crimea, "DPR" and "LPR" were merely part 1 of the invasion in 2014. And nobody responded strong enough, including Ukraine, as we were weakened. But if you look at a larger picture you can see Georgian invasion in 2008. Russia as of now is a dangerous state that threatens every neighbor with invasions and genocide, be that cultural or literal. As for foreign counties outside their immediate reach they use nukes as a threat, lol. And I don't think that's a behavior that should be rewarded with more territorial gain.

    Idk if Tommy will see this. But the difference between the middle east and Ukrainian refugees is relation and culture difference. Ukrainians as a culture are much closer to europe as a whole. Middle easterners simply put have a vastly different culture set. They have no respect for women, no respect for freedom of religion, expression and secularity too. A key example were the muslim killings in France. They were in France, yet want the French to live by their cultural laws of no caricatures of the “holy” Muhammad. My parents came from india, and they assimilated really well here in the US, to the point that in my personal family, im the white washed one, which for us meant that out of all my cousins, i was the most “americanized” in a way. Simply put from our perspective, middle eastern muslims dont want to assimilate, want to bring and institute their backward and vile cultural values, and expect everyone else to just cowtow to them. My parents and aunts/uncles have more harsh/islamphobic words for how they grew up, as we’re sikhs and they had to live through multiple wars, but im just trying to paint it in a more clear view, with hard facts of why no one wants middle easteners in europe and US anymore
