I mean these homeless people have brains, working hands, and legs. Either they are a drug addict or too lazy. I understand there are some exceptions if they have a disability. I have talked to many homeless in San Francisco to find out why and how. Most of them were given shelter but they got kicked out of the shelter because of drug addiction. Some of them hate being confined in shelters because of shelter rules. Immigrants have nothing to do with their homelessness.

You act like homelessness was caused by immigration. I live in San Francisco and I walk by homelessness every single day. I have talked to many of them and most of them are drug addicts or mentally ill. They get evicted from shelters because of their drug addiction issues. So immigration has nothing to do with homelessness.
I can see why these people are homeless. These folks need help. Instead of spending Trillons on foreign aid we need to spend it on mental health for our citizens. It's cruel to let them die on the streets. Everyone deserves love.

Homeless people speaking more sense than politicians. Your efforts to engage with homeless individuals on the streets are commendable. They deserve recognition and acknowledgment. As human beings, they require assistance, which contrasts with the support provided to undocumented migrants. The disparity in aid is both astonishing and unjust. It's painful to see this.

Many of us are just disabled or retired middle class. A studio apartment under Biden is more than my Social Security benefit, with nothing for utilities, food, transportation etc.

It’s so sad and angering. My uncle battled mental illness for decades and was homeless for years. I tried to get him SSI benefits multiple times and he repeatedly got denied. He died in 2021 on the side of a highway during a heatwave. Why is the government not taking care of its own ppl and giving handouts to ppl that haven’t paid a dime into our system???? It makes zero sense.

Heartbreaking to see how deeply mental illness and addiction have ravaged so many lives, especially those already struggling with homelessness. The fact that many of them seem more informed than most is a painful reminder of how society has failed some of its most vulnerable. We need real solutions, not just sympathy.
We need a president who not only speaks but also does something for the people. Toooooo many attorneys/law workers in political field like congress and the White House, and we need a biz man to manage this country to feed us!

As of September 19, 2024 the US National Debt was $35.33 trillion, and still rising. We are a Nation that lives off of borrowed money, aka credit. Credit creates the illusion that we have even more money, which in turn pushes our Country further into debt. It's a non vicious yet vicious cycle.
The people you interviewed are more informed than the "housed" who are simply voting for "joy" or their "mamala". You will not see this on mainstream media. Good job Nate.
A ton of them are probably college graduates & were raised in middle class homes. Messed up somewhere along the line & couldn't recover, especially with not enough help from the government. During the recession in 2008 when I was desperately needing a job, I applied for a job at a bank as I had experience as a teller. They said I could not have the teller job because I did not speak Spanish. True story.

Wow, so sad. My Son is 33 now but when he was 16, he applied for a job at McDonalds in Camarillo, Ca. they asked him if he spoke Spanish, he asked, why do I need to speak Spanish? The Mgr told him because most of the people that come here speak Spanish. My Son said well, shouldn't they be making an effort to speak English? Because if they don't speak English, then chances are, they're not here legally. The Mgr who was Hispanic just looked at him and said nothing. Needless to say, he didn't get the job. I applied for a teaching job at a Community College in CA (Printing Technology). I ended up one of two finalists. I didn’t get it, purely because I didn’t speak Spanish. Never mind most of the equipment manuals are in either German or Japanese. Glad I didn’t get it, in hindsight.

I live near the city’s largest homeless shelter (Pine Street Inn) and have heard people say the same thing…”illegal immigrants are getting a free place to live, free food, free education, free transportation and we Americans get nothing!” First hand information from those citizens who are most vulnerable.
It's really sad to see those people on the street living in that condition, and the government seem not to care about them. I agree with them when they said that they care more about the immigrants than the people of their country. they are wright. So bad. Hope that their lives can change very soon. God bless all of them.

No matter who gets into office, we absolutely are desperate to help our homeless population! I grew up in the 80's and remember seeing many in certain areas, but it's getting so out of control! Just sweeping away the little possessions they have so a city looks "cleaner" is not the answer. We need to take care of our own citizens first and make it easier for disabled people to get help faster and get people mental health and drug treatment rather than just throw them in jail. My dear friend and past roomate was a successful postal worker. Rent skyrocketed and she fell into addiction, lost our old apartment (years after I moved out) and became homeless. Her car was totalled, lost her job and she was r*ped and beaten on the streets, and ended up in jail for the first time in her life. She became so depressed and hopeless that she ended her life! 🙏🕊💔 RIP Tanya

It’s so sad and angering. My uncle battled mental illness for decades and was homeless for years. I tried to get him SSI benefits multiple times and he repeatedly got denied. He died in 2021 on the side of a highway during a heatwave. Why is the government not taking care of its own ppl and giving handouts to ppl that haven’t paid a dime into our system???? It makes zero sense.

Some of these homeless people are actually smart & coherent.
A ton of them are probably college graduates & were raised in middle class homes. Messed up somewhere along the line & couldn't recover, especially with not enough help from the government. MOST don't choose the streets. The system sucks & AMERICAN CITIZENS DESERVE BETTER! Some, on the other hand, won't help themselves. Truly sad, regardless.

The Mgr told him because most of the people that come here speak Spanish. My Son said well, shouldn't they be making an effort to speak English? Because if they don't speak English, then chances are, they're not here legally. The Mgr who was Hispanic just looked at him and said nothing. Needless to say, he didn't get the job. I applied for a teaching job at a Community College in CA (Printing Technology). I ended up one of two finalists. I didn’t get it, purely because I didn’t speak Spanish. Never mind most of the equipment manuals are in either German or Japanese. Glad I didn’t get it, in hindsight.

No matter who gets into office, we absolutely are desperate to help our homeless population! I grew up in the 80's and remember seeing many in certain areas, but it's getting so out of control! Just sweeping away the little possessions they have so a city looks "cleaner" is not the answer. We need to take care of our own citizens first and make it easier for disabled people to get help faster and get people mental health and drug treatment rather than just throw them in jail. My dear friend and past roomate was a successful postal worker. Rent skyrocketed and she fell into addiction, lost our old apartment (years after I moved out) and became homeless. Her car was totalled, lost her job and she was r*ped and beaten on the streets, and ended up in jail for the first time in her life. She became so depressed and hopeless that she ended her life! 🙏🕊💔 RIP Tanya
