Hey Everyone! We hope you enjoy this video! It was so fun to make it back to my hometown and show April the trails! Huge thanks to Portia for joining us and also to her dad Dax for always supporting us and being such a great friend. We have one more video on the horizon from this trip with our friends Dusty Betty and Hardtail Party Steve down in Sedona that should go live in a week or so. April and I are working our way back into full time posting and life is feeling the most normal it has for us in the last two years or so. My health is doing great, we rented a little place in Bentonville, AR for the month of February to film and ride, and we plan on getting back into tutorial videos in the coming weeks. We will also be down at the Sedona Mountain Bike Fesitval in March and we hope to see some of you there! Hope you have had a great start to 2023! Thanks for all your support! Sincerely, Kyle & April
Love Sedona! My cousin lived in Cottonwood (now Tempe) and my co- worker is from Prescott! Are there trails in Jerome on Mingus Mtn? Our friends kids are in Tucson.
This is fun. One thing Kyle does is explain techniques needed for sections. That alone is priceless. More of that would be something other channels who do similar format can't do like a pro does at breaking down the terrain. Oh, and an extended cut for the Patreon crew would be outstanding!
Thank You April....few riders will ever be able to ever ride like Kyle....his skills and abilities are next level.....but you give us normal/average mountain bikers confidence to try things we would never do without you doing them first......you are awesome.
This is so cool. I live in Chico. I'm new to mtb-ing (two years...65 years old. Yeah, I'm insane to start this sport so old). Guardian is still "are you kidding me?" Hell, I still haven't mastered B-Trail yet. Seeing this video makes me happy. I'm not total crap...
Oh, and you mentioned Bloody Pin Trail. Kyle mentioned that "it's pretty aggressive." I take that all the time and still struggle. Again, glad to know the opinion of these trials from the pros. I don't feel too bad about my, "holy sh*t" reaction to it...
Haha your reaction is well warranted! Its a very challenging park and honestly if you can comfortably get down most of the trails in Bidwell everywhere else feels mellow haha
@@AprilRideMTB Thank you for the encouragement! One thing is for sure...mtb-ers are truly the most wonderful and helpful folks there are. Truly a wonderful "sport" with wonderful people throughout. Thank you for your help and videos.
You guys had so much patience for this rider and showing her and letting her achieve is so amazing!! I’m going to do this when I get my hard tail, go over lines again and again till I feel I have it down
Thanks Sebs! This one is one of my absolute favorite trails and I am so happy to be able to share it with you all! The dirt / weather was perfect too. Hope you enjoy!
@@AprilRideMTB that’s awesome!! I very much did! So cool to see trail progression and see proof that the whole world isn’t filled with snow right now. Awesome riding!
That’s how you ride with other people of different riding levels! I love watching and helping people ride things they didn’t think they could. I enjoy it when others do that for me as well! That’s how mountain biking should be!!!
As someone who also used to live in Chico, thanks for showing off these trails. It’s great to see these trails again, even if I’m not able to ride them anymore.
Yeah! The upper park is so brutal but so fun and rewarding when you are able to get things unlocked! glad you enjoyed seeing them again!! Thanks for watching!
So much fun to watch you guys. I’m so happy to see Kyle back riding again. I know it’s been a while since he had his illness and my prayers were with him and thank God for a full recovery🎉
I started watching the channel about 9 months ago and went back to the earlier episodes and watched a ton,, right through to the current ones. I am absolutely amazed by the progression that April has made. She looks like a natural now; which is a clear sign of the quality of the teacher, Kyle. You two are a fantastic team! 👌👏 EDIT: Oh, and the fact that April's bike looks absolutely SICK, can NOT be overlooked. 👌😊
Wow, that looks like a fun trail. Lots of techy challenges to work on. April and Portia did a great job on it. Kyle always offering great advice, "Watch out for a tree"
You guys are rad! You seem like such genuinely nice people. I grew up near Chico and spent time in Bidwell park as a kid but I haven’t ridden there yet. Thanks for this video and thanks for your channel. I’ve only been seriously riding mountain bikes for about 3 years and I’ve definitely gained some skills and confidence by watching your content.
I’m so glad to see you are up and about. I have missed you guys, you teaching skills have helped me to overcome may difficulties patches in my MTB career.
Thanks for showing us Chico! I live right in the middle between Chico and Auburn. About an hour drive to either one. Been riding Auburn and Nevada City for over 25 years. Time to go check out Chico!
April, Just Think, Three Or Four Or Five Years Ago, You Would Have Walked Most Of This Trail. Your Skills And Confidence Has Dramatically Improved. Congrats. Stay Wild My Friend. Kyle, Amazing Features. Had No Idea You Grew Up In Chico. I Rode This Trail When I Was Working In Forest Ranch. We Experienced The Same Fall Foliage As Well. Portia, Well Done. Now You Can Float All These Lines. Excellent Episode And Stoked You Two Are Traveling Agin, Cheers
Thanks so much Travis! April was so stoked to make it through some of those sections! Portia as well! Thank you for the kind words and for watching, we really appreciate it!
Excellent looking trails. Makes me yearn for the trails in Flag and Sedona again. We need to find a way to add rocks to the foothills! Well done April and Portia!
Such a fun video to watch, nice people enjoying each other and riding some interesting trails. You guys have some of the best editing and narration, I love Kyle's little chuckles while he's digging the ride. Glad that your health is coming back too!
Being a Chico rider, this is awesome to see you back and showing what lines to take. Personally always walk the toilet bowl but everything else I always try. Now I gotta get back out there are try your lines!
Awesome video. Pretty cool to learn some of Kyle’s history of sorts. April looks like she is getting really comfortable in front of the camera which is cool. I like. April’s bike, cool that she always matches. I always find myself smiling the entire length of the video you guys drop. Love it! Some times it looks like the video is sped up when Kyle is riding…so smooth, so fast. Can’t wait for the next video ❤ you two
Thank you so much Todd! It was great sharing a bit more with you all as well! Thank you so much for watching and we are glad you find yourself smiling 😊
Great video. I remember Dax bringing Portia out to the BMX track when she was a little girl. Also, April did amazing considering she was riding it for the first time.
that is so sick at 9:54 … being a local too i never knew that was even a line!! so sick to see y’all shredding chico, and awesome seeing portia out there with y’all!! cheers 🤙🏼
I used to live in Chico when I attended Chico State in the mid 80s to the early 90s. I loved the singletrack in one mile. I remember riding through singletrack in lava rock which was sketchy bcz if your crashed, you'd get torn up by the lava rock and possibly get staff infection. I think that was through five mile but not sure if that's correct. I remember talking to Jeff Lindsay founder of Mountain Goat Bicycles numerous times about his frames that were pretty trick. My go-to shop was Pullins Cyclery on Main St loved that shop. I miss riding Chico. Stoked you had a chance to go back to your hometown to ride with April. 🤙🏻
Very cool! It's nice to see Kyle's connection and sense of nostalgia for this place. I think most of us can appreciate the "old places" we used to ride or learned to ride on when we get back to them. Most of the time I see Kyle in "teacher mode" and then occasionally he hits the beast mode button and shows just how gifted a rider he really is. And April, cleaned some tough sections as well. Good job girl!
I live in Chico Kyle would really dig to go riding with you one of these days. Greenline a good shop. I just had a small repair done to my stump jumper they did a good job.
Gotta love upper bidwell! My rides are mostly going up Annie Bidwell and then riding back down. Its been awhile since I have done Guardians. I remember back in the day it was an outlaw run because the land was not part of the Bidwell park at the time. Once my brother-in-law got caught almost to the golf course by a park ranger then told to go back the way he came. He told him no way, he had just rode up 32 to go down. He told the park ranger he would die if he tried to go back up. We ride sometimes on the north rim trails. Its been awhile since I was on B line. Its all rutted up and not as fun as it was in the 90s. Those cliffs can be dangerous... Recently, a few riders have gone off those cliffs and needed to get airlifted. Also, there has been a cat hanging out around there. They let the goats out to cut down the grass. The cat was seen all the way down near hooker oak park. Most of the time, I park there and ride in for those climbs. As one person said to me years ago... "if you can master the bidwell trails then you can ride anywhere."
Thanks Mark! Yeah full nor cal guy haha, Chico is a blast, kind tucked in between Tahoe , Redding, & Sacramento. Definitely worth a trip if you like technical trails!
Yeah we are definitely lucky out here in the mountain west. We hope to go explore some more trails abroad this year as well though. If you have any suggestions let us know!
So much fun to watch you guys ride Guardian and "Session" some of the tough spots. I always take Bloody Pin to Annie Bidwell so haven't seen that last part of the trail in quite a while. Your video has inspired me to stick to the Guardian next time I'm up there, but Annie's is just as much fun (and much less effort if you cross back over at J-Ford). Thanks for all the great shots and video. I'm kinda waiting for the creek to lower a bit (and warm up a little!) to cross over to that side and enjoy Legacy and Guardian again. In the mean time, I'm happy in my rut of doing NorthRim and B to Middle. Very cool to enjoy watching you guys ride. Thanks again for the video and all the inspiration. When you said you would Session at some of the spots I thought maybe you'd pull off and open the Sierra Nevada's to toast the beauty of the place. 😉. It's important to stay hydrated out there! Cheers~
Thats so cool we bumped a little inspiration! I was thinking there will probably be some people working on cleaning those sections after watching April and Portia work on them! Thank you so much for watching and for the kind words, Hope you have an awesome end of winter and spring riding season!
Awesome stuff. Thanks for sharing. Looks like so much fun. Love that kind of riding. Hope to make it there some day. So many trails, so little time. Aloha!
Late to the party... but dont think those trails existed when i was in CSU Chico. Only North RIm, middle and lower. South side of canyon was closed and had new homes. My buddy and I ran them on non suspension bikes, lots of chatter. Started with a Rockhopper Comp, then rode and raced a Bridgestone MB-1 (still have it!) and he rode a Fischer Hoo koo e koo. Did North Rim to B to Middle constantly. We hung out at Pullins all the time. Pretty sure I still have my Pullins yellow Tshirt. too. Trail looks fun, would be a blast on my MB.
I'd love to see you two make a trip out to Crested Butte in Colorado! You'd love it if you've never been. Much love to you guys! One of the nicest couples on RUclips.
Great video, watching April tackle that technical stuff gives me hope in one day having a go myself, I’m not a very skilled pilot yet but getting there.
You will get there for sure! we are planning on doing a "top drills video" in hopes of helping people get to that next level too! so much of it comes down to the fundamentals
It's nice hearing people say how much harder riding in rocky terrain is. Here in Az it's all rock all the time and as a beginner rider I feel like I've learned rather quick. And I feel like the terrain I'm learning in is being used to my advantage
Love watching your videos. Learned a lot of little things watching them and it’s cool to me seeing Kyle rip down some trails and then april doing them at normal people speed 😋lol.
It's raining out here in South Carolina so I only got like an hour of riding in today. Glad ya'll had some fun. Thanks for posting. I hope I find some friends to ride with as well.
Kyle I'm happy for you your health seems like you're back to normal. Wow looks to me like a challenging trail, and all of you did great on it :) I see one of the commenters is local and said many have broken bones there. It looks like a trail my buddy would love, and I might struggle in some places but I'd like to give it a try. Thanks for showing off this trail.
Yeah thank you so much for the kind words and for watching! It was a really fun day and I am so grateful to be able to share the hometown trails with you all!
Great video! Looks soooo fun! Great to see your health is so much better!! Been following your health journey for some time now since being in the exact same situation myself for almost two years now- You're such an inspiration and can't wait to recover and be more active myself. (Though not at your level - 😉 hiking mountains with the dogs and biking is desperatley missed!! 🥰) Best of luck! Love from Norway!
That looks like a great trail! I’m glad you’re back up to full strength you and the girls crushed it! On a side note I’ve been looking for new bars for a while when I saw you helped develop the pnw range bar I bought it and loam grips as well. It’s still cold here so I haven’t been out to test them yet but I can’t wait. Take care guys.
What fun to watch. Chico is just a little west of my foothill home and the trail looks much like what I ride, though mine have more roots and less rocks. I've ridden in Bidwell, but was not aware of the trails where you folks were riding. I like the way you folks feature lots of different areas and the challenges they offer.
As a local, I know SO many riders who have broke bones in the park, its a right of passage. 1 crash can really leave a mark, fall down go boom, land on a sharp rock and that's it. Ive fell down once up there, minor crash, broken arm, badly dis-located wrist, all part of the fun. I do like my Canyon e bike in the park, its a blast!
@@AprilRideMTB Its a funny deal, Ive ridden and raced dirtbikes for most of a lifetime, and ridden highly crazy singletrack up above Concow for many years, trails laid out by experts and pros...but somehow it doesnt transfer over all that well to riding tech stuff in the park. Mt bikes handle SO differently than a 12" travel dirt bike, there's some cross over but not a lot.
Thanks for the memories. I went to college here over 20 years ago. I rode Upper Bidwell on my Gary Fisher Paragon hard tail. Some of this ride looks familiar and some does not. I'm sure a lot has changed over 2 decades. Is The Bear restaurant/bar still there? I also used to go hiking up in the mountains or get to Mt. Lassen.
Thanks for the video guys. Seems a really good trail, scenic and technical. A lot of rocks, which is fine if managed at no more than walking pace (unless you've got the skill of Kyle, such accuracy at speed). Not keen on that toilet bowl, wouldn't want to fall in there. Looking forward to the next post.
I love Chico, my aunt lives just out of town off Skyway. Her house took some damage in the Paradise Fire. I’ll have to bring my MTB next time I visit her!

Aloha!
Glad you liked it!
That trail reminds me a lot of Old San Juan down in SoCal.
We definitely need to head down and show April more of So Cal! I know there is a ton of great riding out there!
Thank you Lance! Kyle has ridden in CO, but I still need to check out some trails there.
It definitely makes you a skilled rider! We also did a ride in pheonix on this trip and got to see just how rocky it is.
Start of video: Portia's nervous and modest. End of video: I wish I had even half of that skill. 👍
Yeah she has been doing so good! It was fun watching her ride!
Love watching your videos. Learned a lot of little things watching them and it’s cool to me seeing Kyle rip down some trails and then april doing them at normal people speed 😋lol.
Haha it’s good to see the contrast! I’m always amazed when I see just how much faster Kyles go pro is than mine.
Abril lo hizo muy bien!! Buen trabajo April!!
Thank you!!
Love a good long open to the public shuttle trail 👊. This video made me take the kids for a shuttle ride 😂
Awesome, glad it inspired you to get out and ride!
It's raining out here in South Carolina so I only got like an hour of riding in today. Glad ya'll had some fun. Thanks for posting. I hope I find some friends to ride with as well.
We hope you do too. I have found that joining in on community events has helped me find riding friends!
Great video, liked how you explain and session the tricky sections. Hope to see you guys at Sedona MTB festival.
We will be there! We have a few rides with Shimano and will be hanging at their tent and Niner most of the time.
Great fun!
I love these vids, thanks!
Glad you like them!
Awesome epik video cool trail 👍🤘
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you and hope your recovery goes well! ❤️
That trail looks like so much fun. I enjoy a longer trail that takes a bit of time to complete, instead of riding the same few trails multiple times.
Thank you!
Thats so awesome! Hope you enjoy the bars! I really like the flex on them. Thanks for all the support!
Looks amazing 👍😵💫🙂👍
Thanks so much for watching Jackie!
Thank you, hope you can try this ride sometime!
Yeah it is so rough to have a fall up there! E bikes are a blast too! Thanks for watching Brad
Looks like fun
Thanks for the memories. I went to college here over 20 years ago. I rode Upper Bidwell on my Gary Fisher Paragon hard tail. Some of this ride looks familiar and some does not. I'm sure a lot has changed over 2 decades. Is The Bear restaurant/bar still there? I also used to go hiking up in the mountains or get to Mt. Lassen.
waiting for your upload, greetings from Philippines 🇵🇭
Thank you so much Jason!!
@@AprilRideMTB thanks for the tips about mountain biking, here in our country Trail, enduro and downhill getting more and more popular
Thanks so much Mr Smith! Hope you have been doing well! Thanks so much for watching!
Awesome video guys like always 🔥🔥
Thank you so much Jose!!
Love it!!! Just some Chico mtb rippers!
Chico ❤️
Nice! You two should come over to Humboldt and ride!
Love the video keep it up
I love Chico, my aunt lives just out of town off Skyway. Her house took some damage in the Paradise Fire. I’ll have to bring my MTB next time I visit her!
Hope your aunt is is doing well now!
