  • After a request from a RUclipsr to test this vehicle we tried to locate a Peugeot Ion, Citroen C-Zero or Mitsubishi I-Miev (effectively the same vehicle) without success. Fortunately our friend and long time EV advocate was able to lend a hand and a 2012 Peugeot Ion. We had it for about an hour, here's how it went.

That was a fun review. I have had one of these for 4 years in Canada. I really like it. You just have to keep within the range limit and its great. One small precision, in the video Jonathan mentions a liquid cooled battery. Its actually air cooled and the cooling is only when it is quick charged. The pump sound you hear is the liquid cooling system for the motor and inverter. Anyways great review. I enjoy your channel cheers....

Wow that was quick coming out with a review of an Ion. Nice to see Jonathon again too. Meet him at a rapid when he did his John O Groats to Lands end and back trip. As for the ion it was our first EV and its now 5 years old. Having lost just 4 per cent capacity we actually kept it for all our short journeys under 60 miles. As a second EV its perfect for us. Thankyou for the video guys. If you are looking for another EV to test purely for the sake of how times have changed how about ......... the G Wiz!!!

If it has the James & Kate approval, I want one.

I have just worked it out its basically equivalent to 184 MPG running on cheap rate electric ie 3p a mile (and less in the summer.) 400 miles = £12... loving it :>)

It's nice to see John in person. I was looking at buying the Mercedes B Class Electric from him last year before I bought my Leaf new. Nissan had an unbelievable offer on at the time. Sorry again John. Another excellent video. Thankyou.

Low mileage one of these on eBay now for £4800. Cracking buy indeed. Plus there’s no battery lease. And rapid charging at 17 minutes. Why wouldn’t you buy one. Great for 80 miles in summer. 😎👍

First, thanks and I love that you James & Kate are having to repress smiling throughout, Jonathan's effect. Second, tech help if microphones & audio are an issue: the free PC software (not dodgy, it's used by schools for our kids etc) public-domain is 'audacity' and you just open audacity up, then instead of telling it the audio file you wanna edit or enhance, just put in the VIDEO you want to strip the audio track from. If you feed this particular video in, you will find easily the audio magically appears in audacity, and if without taking ANY other actions, you just go for 'effect' and select 'amplify' the entire audio will be amplified by whatever amount you choose - for this, I'd try 4dB to 7dB. It takes a few seconds to process. (Now if you find the beginning part for example is too high, you can get into highlighting and reducing particular pieces of audio). Almost there! Again, do nothing else, except get the 'effect' column pulled down, and hit 'compression'. Again a few seconds to process. Now, 'file' and 'export audio'. Try WAV 16 bit, or MP3 or whatever. LASTLY you go into microsoft Movie Maker (free software again) and insert this soundtrack by the usual method of inserting a MUSIC item of audio. Because the video and the audio are the precise same length, there's no lipsync issues to worry about. FINALLY set the volume of the VIDEO soundtrack to zero, and UP the gain (volume) of the newly-implanted audio track to 3/4 or even maximum. Export or save or whatever this finished video with its new-and-improved audio. In audacity you can boost the bass and all that so you can sound much more Walter Kronkyte - not that you don't already sound that way James..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Now, you are going to say, you edited this video then found a problem. Simply take the final edited video with its sound problem, and treat in the same way I said for audacity stripping the audio track as given at the top of this tech tip. Then, a little incestuous this I am afraid, take the newly-stripped audio, go back into a video editor of the video, and do as before. Again, always make sure you reduce to zero the volume of the VIDEO soundtrack, but raise to 3/4 or full the volume of the 'music' track you have added (ie the re-vamped audacity audio track). The audio will be back to your usual high quality. For those who are audiophiles AND technophiles, this will be way below your expertise and I apologise - for the rest of us, it's free high-quality audio we never knew existed, direct from the camera microphone................................................................................................................................................................................................OK, now I will resume watching your Peugot Ion review - PS I didn't even know it existed, it's not like the Mitsubishi website explained their IMIEV was not available but you can go get the peugot equivalent, they just said why don't you try our Outlander PHEV instead? Without a hint of irony. I mean, just sit two pictures of the cars together...the only commonality is they both have electric drive...but heck, that's like me saying I had a model aeroplane (drone now they call them) and it was just like a Spitfire because it had a piston engine...!

Another good video. I'd checked out Jonathon's website after seeing it on one of Robert Llwellyn's "Fully Charged" episodes. There's definitely a bit of a community building up round EVs and I'm getting EV envy - problem is I only changed my car a year ago and whilst I can afford to change not sure I can justify it unless I count the extra £3000 I'd need as an investment. If I discounted depreciation I'd save £40 per month - not a bad return on £3000 especially as it's getting less than 1% in an ISA!

I have the 2010 Mitsubishi i-MiEV, the mother of the Peugeot and Citroen siblings. I've driven 24k km last year for about 1400 euro including 2 new front tires, taxes and insurance.

It takes a while to catch up with all these EV gems. Late to the party and currently dipping our toes in the water with an Ionic Hybrid. Would love a Tesla Model 3 but might be going for another Ioniq or maybe the Kona EV with 60Kwh later this year.

Yay, due to titanates (titanium oxides) the battery on this line of cars is pretty expensive. They can be charged to abusive rates with no harm. I've heard they are longest lasting too.

I wonder if soon we'll see EV tuning/upgrading businesses come about that in the case of this vehicle and other older generations EV's will offer aftermarket replacement higher density batteries/upgraded motors and efficiency enhancements such as on the heating systems and even fit rapid charge abilities on vehicles that in their original configurations not had them? New, appealing life could be put into such vehicles in this respect..
