Once I realized that running my engine at under 1500 rpm would cause more regen cycles, I never run it below that point. When actually operating the tractor, I make sure to run it over 2000 rpm. I hardly ever notice the regen cycle anymore. It is certainly not frequent. I used to panic when the light came on, but now I see it and keep on doing what I'm doing. I was leery of the regen system when I bought the tractor, but it has become a non-factor. I certainly wouldn't be concerned about it if I was purchasing a new tractor. Thanks for the video, Brock. Lots of good information!
I have no doubt your channel will be extremely successful in the long run. The perseverance to come up with a quality video every day is unbelievable. Many of the big guys only do a couple a month.
One point they didn’t cover is the DPF has a service life just like any other filter. Yes it collects soot and then burns it off. However there is ash that remains. Over time the ash will accumulate and plug the filter. So at some point it will have to be removed and cleaned or replaced. Or it could be bypassed with these tractors. Other models bypassing is not an option.
Thanks Brock for taking the time to bring some clarity to this subject. We really enjoy your videos and they also helps us to be more informed. We especially like your videos from the farm shows. Most of us don't have the time to go, and you make it a great experience. Keep up the good work!
We have had our Grand L 3560 for a year now with 130 hours and gone through 3 regen cycles. There have been NO problems with them or the performance of the tractor. To be sure, Kubota had some on some it's early systems on some models, but they Have appeared to solve the issues on their current line up. I'm sure the other brands have addressed rhe issues as well.
Right' you're better letting the Diesels run.. but remember most of your dealers have a limit in running hours for your warrantee. Really interested in a Delete for our Deere skid steers, would modify it as soon as its out of original warantee. Aside from that my neighbor has the same unit as I do that came out before the bs Gov regulations, it sounds MUCH better too.
I live in north eastern Nevada. I bought that TYM from the tractor yard back in June of 2023. It’s a great tractor. I did have a problem with the dealer not getting the paper work to me or the bank. I drove for two days to get there and pick it up. They were very rushed to get me out of there. I didn’t even get an owners manual until 3 months later.
For our property I just purchased the Badboy 4035. It's seems to be nice tractor, I just used it to level 4 full loads of dirt. A lot of standard options and it came with a 5' rotary cutter.
DPF isn’t the issue. The EGR system is what kills the engines and shortens the life of the engine. I’d be totally fine with “clean” exhaust and having to clean the dpf. What I won’t take is dumping exhaust back into the air intake, compromising the oil. It’s not DPF, it’s the EGR to run away from.
OH Yes EGR= Pure "Clogalation ,oil contamination,Super-high heat,&"grinding-compound" in the Entire Engine. DPF's = Oky-doky, along with the High-pressure Common-rail fuel Injection systems = super low fuel consumption & LOTS of POWER.
My thinking for buying a big frame 25 horse tractor was... I'm buying it mostly for the loader so no dpf or having a dpf the loader lifts the same, but less horsepower and no dpf means cheaper tractor with 1 less part to possibly fail. Also when I need to do pto work then it's good for a diesel to work once in a while because lifting firewood poles doesn't really tax the tractor enough. Just my 2 cents.
This was my thought for the loader lift capacity when I purchased my bad boy 4025 just 2 days ago. I was leaning toward a manufacturer who actually made their own tractor but the deal was hard to pass up. So hopefully I won’t regret my decision in a few years. I came from a JD750 2wd with not loader so definitely will be more beneficial around my property!
I have DPF on my JD 4052. I watch the soot level and let it run a Regen if I am not working it harder. When I am working it, I set it to at least 1500 and let it run. The real secret is to not keep killing the Regen cycle, and mine will go into a forced Regen if I don't let it run to completion.
11:15 love it. "We gotta capture this unburnt fuel and soot in a filter, because if it got into the environment, it could increase CO2 emissions!" "Oh cool, so when the filter gets clogged with all that emissions stuff, you just swap it out?" "Oh no! Those things are too expensive for that. No we just heat up the filtration system to burn it all off." "Heat it up how?" "Well we make your engine RPMs go up to burn more fuel!" "So you're capturing unburnt fuel to reduce pollution... then burning more fuel to burn the unburnt fuel that you captured... and this *reduces* pollution?" "Probably! But it doesn't matter; it's required by law so FU buddy!" An engineering design so clever and self-defeating it could only have come from a group of unelected bureaucrats.
You might point out that it is against Federal law to disconnect or delete emission controls systems on anything that is sold with emission controls. The EPA has been issuing some huge fines for deleting the systems, especially in the trucking industry and pickups. They are going as far as monitoring Facebook and other social media outlets looking at ads that state an engine has been deleted. I know one individual who advertised a pickup with diesel engine stating it had been deleted that was read by an EPA agent and ended up being fined several thousand dollars for deleting the system
When govornment makes laws that are unfollowable the general public dosnt follow them. Ie, 55mph speed limit from the 70s o the mid 1990s was to save enery but all it did was suck he life out of road trips for 20 years. Gun control laws arent followed by criminals or general public one bcause they are crim8nals and one because, shal not be infringed is ez to understand. Most personal use tractors will use what? 20 gallons of diesel a year. Maybe someone using it with their pool installation business will use 100... a ship carrying our goods from china to here uses dirty high sulphur fuel oil with no emissions equipment and at the end of that ships life it is ripped apart in the ocean and all the polution gos into the water. One shipping freighter polutes more in a year than every smal diesel tractor in north america ever could
The deterrent to buying a machine with the extra emissions, is the extra price they need to charge to pay for that emissions equipment. Can do without the useless expense
I think many people who buy these tractors are older (I'm 71) and are in no hurry. I just idle around. My JD 1023E idles at 1550 which seems fast to me. Of course mine has no DPF so no problem. People will get a tractor for the biggest job they have but most of the time it will not be stressed. Best thing to do is when the tractor calls for a regen is do one of those big jobs.
This was a great video. Too many people out there telling less than the truth. One of the worst out there was a Dude named HANK H. When he bought his best in the world Mahindra he and the dealer thought that a DPF system was the kiss of death for a tractor. THEY both said that when regen time came you would have to stop working till it finished. YES go look him up. How can you trust someone like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HANK are you listening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He has now moved on to a new brand that is working a deal with him.
Great topic, Brock. What data or criteria did the EPA use to decide a cutoff hp rating to require emissions scrubbing? Why 25hp? Was it about volume of sales, like what size tractor will be most prevalent in use in the years ahead? Or how much political haranguing was done behind closed doors with lobbyists? We all know this is about more than saving the planet. See, by creating a threshold of hp rating application of these regs, it has created a wave of buyers seeking to avoid the add-on tech and higher costs. I don't believe all those buyers are just old school tech haters...there's a reason we buyers want simplicity, especially in equipment of great cost. But it has created a forced purchase if someone wants more power...we have no choice. Another related question is just how much carbon and nitrogen oxides do a relatively small number of low horsepower diesel engines really put into the atmosphere, to what detriment...really? If it had ANYTHING to do with planet saving, then the WHO would step in and lockdown India, China, SE Asia, Africa for all their unchecked contributions. Ahhh...politics comes up again...hmmm
Good news, since the EPA is a Government agency, all that information is available. DPFs reduce emissions of particulate matter by 85-90% or more, and CO (Carbon Monoxide) by 70-90%, DPF systems have been on off-road machines since the 80's and on-road since 1985... 38+ years. But hey, if you want lung cancer, delete your DPF system and huff all the "coal" you want.
Great video guys! I love the new tractors and options they have, but my 2040 JD does the work just fine. They don't build tractors like they used too. And our family has owned many different nameplates!
Ok Mr. Engineer, what are the emissions during the regen process??? I would love to see the emissions from the same size and type engine one with no DPF and one with DPF over a set amount of time and what the difference is.
I don’t think there are any fewer emissions , but that’s just my opinion without any insight or knowledge I don’t know that Jake is a big fan of these systems either but they are legally required
So these passive DPF filters are very effective at collecting and burning Particulates. The primary function of these passive filters is to utilize the normal operating temperature of exhaust to keep up with the accumulation of particulates in the filter. As they react with the filter material and burn, the product gases become less harmful. The regeneration process just helps burn off particulates by increasing temperature and pressure within the filter when the filter becomes clogged. I know a lot about these systems but I don’t necessarily like having them on equipment. The fact is they are here to stay so we have to learn how to live with them or work around them.
My Kioti CX 2510 HST (about 25 HP) uses less than a half gallon diesel fuel per hour of work, with some at 2400 RPM using PTO, some between 1800 to 2200 RPM for loader work or pulling, and some idling. It doesnt really matter the RPM in the working range...same fuel usage. This is my data for about the first couple hundred hours. No use in putting wear on the starter, stopping circulation of fluids, etc, just to shut off the tractor to get off for a few minutes of hand work. Saves nothing to shut off the tractor
Thanks for sharing. I actually did a review video on that tractor model and was pretty impressed with it. I think it was actually at 2610 My 38 hp John Deere seems to use about a gallon an hour
I’m surprised he admitted that the TYM engine can run with the DPF gone. Others in forums have know this for years. I’m just surprised a dealer said this on video.
Wow is all I can say. My tractor and your tractor I believe are the same as the 35 hp you show. But it’ll do a force region in the necessary I guess the bad boy Josh.
I can't imagine a 25HP machine of that size. My 1025 is too weak to pull itself around in high gear not even doing any work, just driving. Definitely not enough
Ive run ford N tractors. The N series are handy lil guys but not 4wd, very limited lifting ability due to potential to snap axles, first and reverse arent even low enough without add on underdrive aux trans and frankly they arent very nice to operate for hours at a time compared to something built over the last 30 or so years I like this machine has mechanical fuel injection so the machine will last for decades as long as hydrostatic drive isnt over taxed
I'm in Louisiana and I'm looking for tractor to do food plots. I want to have the option to use a tiller vs disc. Would a 25hp be suffcient or would I need a larger hp?
Fortunately in Australia the government has not decided diesel powered tractors are going to destroy the world. A couple of years ago I bought a 52 HP Kubota tractor without any stupid cans under the bonnet nor any strange buttons and lights on the dash. Why didn’t Trump reverse the stupid law brought in for no real reason to handicap tractors? The law doesn’t make sense, tractors need to consume more diesel to keep going with the anti pollution systems.
Pres Trump had his hands full defending himself against a (now proven) fake Russia investigation. Had he not been targeted with these fake allegations he’d have gotten even more done than he did.
I think this especialy silly for these tractors that are often for personal use and get maybe 100hrs a year put on them. A freighter from china probably burns more diesel warming up its engines for departation than a personal use tractor will in its life yet ships from hina and india are emissions exempt....
@@TheTractorYard Tier 4 EPA chart says 19 ≤ kW < 37 (25 ≤ hp < 50). 19KW is actually 25.4 HP, so that's how "25 HP" engines skirt the table. The EPA isn't bothering with fractional numbers in the chart.
A lot of “de-rating” happens in the industry. There’s plenty of info out there on how to turn these 25HP Kukje engines up above 30HP just by adjusting the fuel at the injection pump. Thanks for correcting me on the HP cutoff
Depends on displacment. I know a mower builder that has a 25hp diesel that is 898cc and another 25hp engine thats 1300 cc..... the 1300 cc runs at a lower rpm though both are kubota diesels. I assume if the 1300 cc engine was spun up to same rpm as small motor it would be 35 or more hp.
Just bought a brand new LX 4020 to move snow in mountain resort. dealership put howes diesel treatment in it and sold me a bottle to treat diesel because the temp is around 0 degrees F at 10000 feet elevation. I have 17.2 hours on the tractor and the thing won’t start. tried for 3 days finally put 911 in fuel filter and added a little to the tank as per specs. still won’t start. had to tow it through 4 feet of snow 150 yards as the kubota dealership in my area wanted to charge me 8 hours of labor just to drive out to and from my location because i didn’t buy it from them. took it to a kubota dealership in a different state but only 1.5 hours from me. They told me the DPF is completely clogged due to the fuel. SOOO no warranty and no insurance coverage. $12000.00 to fix. the tractor was only $39000.00 WTF! Kubota service and insurance and Sales all suck. They blame it on the other dealerships, no one is taking responsibility for taking care of tractor. Read your manual and warranty and insurance form. If it is fuel related. NO COVERAGE. DONT BUY Kubota! LIARS and Fraudsters. Does anyone have any insight or help here ? Just lost over $20000 on contracts for snow removal. and looks like i wont be getting this tractor back for at least 3 to 4 weeks, even if i pay the extortion money to fix it. and then im sure it will just gel up again and and wont start and will have to go through this all again in another 17 hours. only about 15 total gallons of fuel have gone through this engine 8 of which was put in by the dealer and i only put 12 oz. of howes in the 10 gallons of ulsd i bout from costco. tier one diesel.
Whatever you're gaining in efficiency you will lose in reliability. DPF/Regen machines NEVER see the number of hours that an emissions free diesel will. That means you are replacing your tractor more often. Just look at Diesel pickup trucks, emissions free diesels from the 90s are still on the road with a half million miles meanwhile 2006 and later diesels with that mileage are absolute unicorns.
Typical government regulation. They mandate a system that is supposed to reduce polution but requires the equipment to be run at higher rpms and idled more.
So in short to get exhaust hotter u got to work it harder burn more fuel with is worse for environment. More wear and tear on engine more hours on machine ( trade in value goes down warranty runs out faster awesome way to protect environment
You can alter any emissions device. I hope you enjoy the fines you incur. I I am not ignorant of diesel engines The money rail will give you the best fuel economy.regardless of the horsepower, but carries the liability of needing a computer. Mechnical injection provides less opeertuny failures with you seek out engines that has 8+ years of production and has stood as a lone engine provided. Please don't buy lower horsepower anything unless you willingly wish to upgrade within the next couple of years. I have not an under 26 horsepower traction that revels it cost less to pduce it compared to a 36hp model. Lastly not the difference in tire sizrs.
Blame the g-o-v; emissions a joke on all vehicles, dpf a joke on all big rigs & tractors, the political green deal is the biggest joke on us all‼️ ~ Shalom
Life would be a lot easier without tree huggers who do they think grows their food too many off them I see protesting are wearing leather or plastic products I don't think they realize their hypocrisies

The N series are handy lil guys but not 4wd, very limited lifting ability due to potential to snap axles, first and reverse arent even low enough without add on underdrive aux trans and frankly they arent very nice to operate for hours at a time compared to something built over the last 30 or so years
I like this machine has mechanical fuel injection so the machine will last for decades as long as hydrostatic drive isnt over taxed
I'm in Louisiana and I'm looking for tractor to do food plots. I want to have the option to use a tiller vs disc. Would a 25hp be suffcient or would I need a larger hp?
I had a problem with my emissions system, then it suddenly fell off the machine and sank to the bottom of the lake like all my firearms.
Great info and great video
Thanks great Information
30hp for less for no emissions? thought it was 25hp thats why the tractors 25 not 30 right
@@TheTractorYard Tier 4 EPA chart says 19 ≤ kW < 37 (25 ≤ hp < 50).
Great information!
Hey Brock. Not just polar bears. Grizzly bears too!🙂
Great video brock
Turn up fuel pump and make the 25 a 35ish
Depends on displacment. I know a mower builder that has a 25hp diesel that is 898cc and another 25hp engine thats 1300 cc..... the 1300 cc runs at a lower rpm though both are kubota diesels. I assume if the 1300 cc engine was spun up to same rpm as small motor it would be 35 or more hp.
That’s so weird I was always told you don’t have to have DPF unless it’s over 75hp.
25 hp is one set of emission standards. Usually DPF. 75HP is DEF fluid
@@RockhillfarmYT Ohhh that makes sense. Thanks for the response I enjoy your content brother!
Make any progress over the past half a year sine you posted? Maybe just crappy dealerships?
What good has all this emission crap done?
Not a damn thing
Burning up engines, which leads to selling more tractors
Nothing until they learn how to put emission garbage on wild fires, emissions are a total scam.
FJ b's all for this c*** He wants electric everything.
Run up the price of the tractor is all its good for what a bunch of bullshit
Buy a Deutz Fahr mine is a 5080D and doesn't have regen or def and is a 73hp
Whatever you're gaining in efficiency you will lose in reliability. DPF/Regen machines NEVER see the number of hours that an emissions free diesel will. That means you are replacing your tractor more often. Just look at Diesel pickup trucks, emissions free diesels from the 90s are still on the road with a half million miles meanwhile 2006 and later diesels with that mileage are absolute unicorns.
11:15 Those people are correct.
Green paint is expensive
And reliable….
Can't you turn the fuel up on the 2515 to get the 35 horsepower? It is the 1.7 engine.
Black smoke blower here.. keep it I don't want
I don't trust anyone who says DEF or emission Systems are not things to worry about.
Ok if they are the same then why does bad boy offer a cab for the 4035 but tym does not for the 2515? Can somebody find out?
Had a conversation with the TM rep about that last week.
They could put it out, but they haven’t done it yet.
He didn’t know why
I have shirts with holes where my belly rubs also 🤪my dirty used shirt brother 🤪👊🏼
Hmm, don’t really need that regen with mechanical injectors.
Does the 30 above machines have a ecm you can reflash to eliminate the def
No ECM on these tractors, just good old mechanical injection
@@TheTractorYard seems you could delete it easily
How much does the emission BS add to price?
I don’t have numbers, but I would say quite a bit
3-5k?
I can't stand the emissions equipment. I want nothing to do with them.
Blame the g-o-v; emissions a joke on all vehicles, dpf a joke on all big rigs & tractors, the political green deal is the biggest joke on us all‼️ ~ Shalom
The Genius of the EPA mandates.
Let it run longer let it rev high for the region and get worse fuel mileage because it's cleaner😂😅😂
Keep your def tractors.
We need Kubota dpf delete videos
cant you just take all that crap off and run a straight pipe off it?
Stop xtopping the regen
The emissions on the new diesel engines have ruined them. They're junk, a royal nightmare and a massive expense. Never again ! Sorry.
Life would be a lot easier without tree huggers who do they think grows their food too many off them I see protesting are wearing leather or plastic products I don't think they realize their hypocrisies
👀
fkn emission bs, i would NEVER have a tractor with that garbage on it
Just delete it all. PITA.
I used to like Hustler but they have a bunch of commie ads in their magazines anymore lol
