I’m so happy to see Yura getting attention. He went out of his way to save us and never really gets talked about. Not to mention they cut out half his questline
Wow didnt know he had s lot of questlines cut. He is by far my fav character. Best sword gifted to you. Coolest armor. Also really want to know about his low key addiction to dragon hearts lol
That and Shaun Dooley (the voice of Yura, Shabriri and the Fire Giant) is extremely talented and deserves more recognition, plus he's a huge FromSoft/Miyazaki fan

So many lives were ruined by the raving mad beast Mohg. Ruining Miquella’s plans aside…. So many tarnished were led astray by the promise of a false dynasty.
I’d like to point out that the land of reeds seems to be particularly often picked by mohg and mother of truth that in sone lore bits the land of reeds traditionally held faith in death rites but is in a civil war with a faction whose iconography is blood or burning thorns which is often a reference to mohgs religion. So maybe this legendary couple is a representation of the two sides of the lands of the reeds and how the civil war has pitted family against family and lover against lover.

Mohg literally does nothing wrong here, Eleonora joins him willingly and becomes a bloody finger. She ruined herself be doing dragon communion and then accepted the invitation to become a bloody finger.

I remember from a Zulllie the Witch NPC unmasking video that, unlike white mask varre and the others who serve the lord of blood, she doesn't actually have the trident tattoo on her head. Perhaps Eleonora wished to kill Mohg by infiltrating his band of bloody fingers, but lost herself in the process.
Nah cut content dailogue proves Varre was goin around collecting tarnished to become bloody fingers, he even saves her from Yura at one point using what is now known as Raptor of the mists before it became an ash of war in our current build of the game. Both Moghwyn and Three fingers had a much more bigger antagonistic role in the story but im assuming it was cut due to time constraints. Either way the point still comes across clearly that Eleonora was lost in her lust for power, and the cut content only branches different storylines
@@jinji_xo problem with cut content is that it can be or not be canon. Specially because Miyazaki willfully leaves out pieces of the story so we can have our own interpretations based on the facts that are presented upon us. But also, other pieces are left out because of time constraints. So yeah, sometimes it's hard to acknowledge cut content as canon. But I think that the beauty of this games. We solve the puzzle as a community

Man Yura's voice actor really killed some of these lines, I've never done his entire quest before but now I feel like I have to so I can hear this dialogue

Yura was the very first friend I made in the lands between. He was also the first person I killed recklessly when I found out his katana was way cooler than mine. Still he will always hold a special place in my heart
he also says in one of his dialogues that your feelings shouldn't stop your sword, but his feelings got on his way when he at last faced Eleonora.
While I do think Yura considers Eleonora a formidable foe, the way Yura tells you to stay away from Eleonora and how we just find him dying, I always suspected that he simply didn't want any harm to come to her and that he didn’t want to put up a proper fight when he finally faced her. Also, the fact that Yura says Eleonora is the last of the bloody fingers suggest that he was postponing the fight for as long as possible, or that he knew she was going to kill him, possibly because he knew he didn’t have the heart to kill her. The despair he felt as he was dying and unable to save Eleonora could be what made him susceptible to the Flame of Frenzy.
I don't think I'm ever going to get over all of the lore that's just waiting to be figured out. There's so much of it, and a ton of it is easy to miss entirely just by doing things out of order. Truly a masterpiece

To be fair, if her eyes are blue and she wears mostly red, if you mix those together you get purple, a synonym for which being violet. Maybe that’s where her moniker comes from

Yura's VA did a great job on the delivery of his final lines. You can truly hear the hurt and sorrow in Yura as he dies
Yura is a fascinating character due to just how much we don’t know about him, and the myriad bizzare, seemingly contradictory events surrounding him.
If Yura watched Eleonora spiral into a self-destructive lust for power that was directly caused by dragon communion, I feel like he wouldn’t be nearly as willing to share a location where the player could partake in it, lest they share her fate- yet he does so anyway. Why would he risk that? Is he perhaps trying to test the Tarnished, to see if they’re strong-willed enough to avoid giving in to the temptation of communion by avoiding it entirely, or- what I think is a more interesting possibility- if their will is strong enough to partake in it, but avoid going down the same path as Eleonora?
And what prompts Shabriri to choose his corpse in particular to possess? Was it motivated purely by his relationship to the Tarnished so as to better manipulate them by speaking through a friendly, familiar guise, or is it something deeper than that? He seems to be unstable, possibly even hallucinating when spoken to after the encounter in Raya Lucaria, speaking of “wretched worms” that need to leave him he, and not even initially acknowledging the Tarnished. Was his search for Eleonora and obsession with the Bloody Fingers driving him toward Frenzy, as happened to Edgar?
...And speaking of the encounter in Raya Lucaria, if he so zealously hunts Bloody Fingers, then why does he act as an *invader* to the Ravenmount Assassin, and summon us in as such, instead of having us be summoned in as a cooperator, as he did with us to protect us from Nerijus?
So many questions, so few answers...
Its always vague in From games whether beating an NPC invading spirit actually affects the person or not. We get Elenora's weapon from beating her red spirit, but do we know if she's dead? In the Recusant quest line, you have to invade other people's worlds to get rid of them. Perhaps thats what Yura was doing? Can't truly hunt Bloody Fingers without taking them fight to them I guess.
@@TuskyBaby Defeating Okina in the mountaintops doesn’t prevent him from being at the festival iirc, but invading and killing Tragoth does. I think that you have to “kill the real version” of a character to finish them off

Yura walked the lines between good and evil solely because he had maybe only one wish, of preventing Eleanora from being consumed entirely. And its worth noting that Shabriri is playing off of any potential misgivings that we as Tarnished would have, of losing a woman close to us, because that's exactly what happened to Yura.
in his cut dialogue , yura speaks of the worm-like in the back of his eyes that is making way into his brain , it's seems like edgar his hunt for the bloody finger and his old friend slowly drove him closer and closer to madness , shabriri probably took his body bcz yura the only frenzied body he could take that has very close ties to the chad tarnished that been painting the walls red with demigod's blood

It is interesting how despite being a knight of Mohg and all her connections to Yura who insists she "lost herself" that she doesn't bare the marks of a follower of either school of influence. There's only three things in Elden Ring that provide eye colour changes, Dragon Communion and being a Bloody Finger and she doesn't have either dragon eyes or bloodshot red eyes. Really makes me think she wasn't as consumed as Yura thinks.
Also as I was watching this video and the clip about Edgar Allen Poe's poem Eleonora. (Which it might be a stretch but there's literally a MPC named Edgar that is associated with the Three Fingers and by extension Yura..) But for the longest time I thought the spiky bits on the handle where the blade meets the hilt of eleonora's weapon were tuffa of furs but looking at them while the poem was being read they really do seem to resemble flowers on a closer look.
But yeah, Yura is an interesting character. I think Eleonora is worth giving more love in general though given how many things she's involved with lore wise. Between being a drake knight, bloody finger, using a weapon associated with the Land of Reeds, her armour set being found in Farum Azula, her being in possession of the Purifying Crystal to break Mohg's blood curse. Such a cool character concept.
I tought she was "Violet" just because of the color of a finger infused by Mogh's blood, like our own should we follow Varre's questline. Also, I think Yura actually respects the pratice of seeking strenght by killing dragons and seeking the dragon communion (after all he tell us how to do it) while hunting humans, like the cessblood do, is nothing admirable.
The color of those fingers is grey though, far from a vibrant purple

Just a guess, what if she his daughter? Dude seems kinda old. Its possible he trained her to fight with the weapon from his homeland too. Also i like the fact that he points the player to the church where you can get only 3 incantations so you wouldn't get bloodthirsty

I think that perhaps Yura had the purifying tear and when Eleonora killed hi, she took it and might have had a moment of humanity. Too often the invading our world is used as a substitute for in-game presence. If they did not use it, it could have been that Eleonora was sitting in the ruins, unseen, fighting with her humanity as she pondered the purifying tear, ruminating on her dying lover, and the arrival of our tarnished interrupts her.
I still remember, when I found Yura dying at the second church of Marika and Eleonora invading, that I imagined my tarnished vagabond knight brandishing his weapon filled with rage and grief over what happened to Yura. Yura's VA did a really good job.

With Yura, we have decent evidence that he has met and fought alongside Eleonora before, but also that he doesn't personally know her that well.
On the one hand, Yura does talk about having hunted dragons before, and having had a partner in doing so. Quote: _"That was my first dragon hunt in quite some time. Paired up with a hothead like you, it was just like old times."_ The "hothead" mentioned there seems to have been an important person in his life, with him having interacted with them, or people like them, multiple times. Quote: _"Seems I'm forever crossing paths with hotheads like you."_ This, and the fact he utters both lines in response to you trying to hunt Agheel (one after dying in the attempt and the other after summoning him to assist in the hunt) implies that he not only assisted in the successful hunt of a dragon, but that he either repeatedly interacted with and assisted a single dragonslayer, or else that he kept getting dragged back into the dragon hunt by multiple dragonslayers. Combining this with the fact that Eleonora is someone we know he has strong feelings about, and that Eleonora is a confirmed dragonslayer who has slain a minimum of two dragons (based upon her used incantations), and the fact that she's the only Bloody Finger who uses these incantations, and it circumstantially implies a degree of closeness to her, specifically. Further, there is also that line he says while dying: _"Eleonora, it seems I am no match for you. But I've learned a thing or two myself, you see."_ It implies either that the two have never fought each other before, but that he had some direct observation of her skill and that he himself has improved since he last saw her, or that the two fought before with her being his definite superior, and this fight having the same result, but him having closed the gap between them enough to cut off her bloody finger. Either way, he must have had some direct and personal observation of her skill in order for him to A: think himself a match for her as he was, B: be proven wrong, and C: be able to state that his own improvements as a warrior have allowed him to accomplish part of his goal (with full acknowledgement that improvements can only be relative, meaning he has to be comparing his skill to a particular point in the past, implicitly the same point in time he was estimating her skill relative to his upon).
On the other hand, Yura always talks about her knightly pride and her peerless skill, but nothing else. Not really. And we know she was a Drake Knight, who are sworn not to speak and only act in search of power, and it'd be difficult to form that deep of a connection without communicating in a personal way, be it by words and voice or by signs and fingers. Plus, the way he talks about her in his final moments is... odd. _"Do not stain the immaculacy of your sword, your flesh, your fire..."_ This doesn't read like someone who knew her on a personal level, but an admirer of long years and unrequited yearning, who shudders to see the things he admired lost without legacy. No one to continue the tradition of that blade, no one to continue her bloodline, no way to preserve the flames of passion and ambition that drove her forward, and the sadness that these things would all be lost, like sparks from a fire swept up and snuffed out in the careless winds.
My conclusion is that Yura is an older warrior than Eleonora, who first met her when she was young and full of fire, possibly before she even became a Drake Knight. Seeing that spark in her, he tutored her and even helped her with her first hunt, before parting ways for a time. Later, the two would cross paths again, and he'd get to see the immaculate knight his newly-minted dragonslayer had grown into, with burning pride and peerless skill. I personally think he only interacted with her a small number of times before the end, no more than 4, but that he kept up with her as a fan of sorts, happy to hear the stories of the person he once helped so long ago and to hear of her deeds, maybe even making trips to watch her in action at gatherings or events. Then, he learned of her fall to the cessblood, and his own parasocial relationship with the person he once knew turned into a personal quest of sorts, to see that the person (or the image of a person) he cared so deeply to see wasn't ruined any further, and maybe to try and save and bring back what good was still there. After that, I imagine he tried to confront Eleonora directly and was forced to flee for his life, seeing that the woman he thought he knew wasn't there anymore, and leaving him with only a pained, vain, and utterly fruitless hope that he might bring her back if he could cut the cessblood-infected finger from her hand. To that end, he started hunting the Bloody Fingers, starting at the bottom of the ladder and working his way up, hoping to have improved his skills enough to win (whatever that word might mean to him) by the time he meets her again.

I've never followed up on Yura's quest. I'm gonna have to do NG++ already because I accidentally killed Patches and I missed his quests the first time around. I love these videos because it both highlights how big this game is, but also all the things I've missed and need to do.

I'm right there with you. I've always somehow missed the events between felling Agheel and meeting Shabriri. I really wish these NPCs consistently gave clues as to where we could find them next.
@@NickCombs I think because some of it is in Limgrave and usually when people are there, they don't know wtf they're doing at first. I know I didn't. I just knew to sprint through the lake. 😅
Kind of wished in a way had unique dialogue for the people wearing a set that comes from the Land of Reeds. Like just one piece of dialogue maybe and nothing else.
The Edgar Allan Poe poem's juxtaposition made me have a "Surprised Pikachu" face.

This is one of many story arcs that seems to have been trimmed down. I feel like this story was first intended to be much more fleshed out but got pushed aside to time constraints. What really interested me about this character is how obscure he seemed to be. I missed almost everything about him until I spoke to his face covered corpse in the end game. I had no idea who he was. The designers seemed to intentionally hide this arc. He’s in the middle of nowhere in the early game and his summoning marker before the dragon fight is basically hidden.
My headcanon was that Eleanora was never a Bloody finger, or at least recently was trying to stave off Mogh’s blood.
The reason Yura knows the consequences of Dragon Communion is because he and Eleanora somehow saw a partaker turn into a Wyrm. So Eleanora tried to avoid fate by becoming a Bloody finger, but holding on to the crystal tear so as to not have any curses from the cessblood.
Eleanora's location is also interesting, the third church of Marika, right between Lansseax’s two spawns.
It's my theory that Eleanora was probably still partaking in Dragon Communion and planning to betray Mogh. Likely to find a connection to the formless mother or the Cocoon of the Emperian to avoid her fate without being controlled or observed by the Moghwyn Dynasty.
So basically Yura is a scalie and he simps for the woman who cosplays as a dragon

What I liked about Eleonora is that she's both a drake knight and a bloody finger. Both of those things basically make you crazy, so she's like doubly insane while stacking buffs.

This is just my head cannon, but I always thought it would be cool if Eleonora had actually been Yura's daughter. There's absolutely nothing confirming this directly, but I felt his concern for her and final words came off as more fatherly rather than something between close friends or lovers. And of course it makes his death at her hands all the more tragic.
Their kid could be Okina. He uses a samurai sword with blood attacks, so maybe.
Unlikely, Okina seems like he’s very in touch with his origin in the Land of Reeds Having had a group of samurai followers who adorned full samurai armor. He seemingly came from there. Which wouldn’t make sense since he would make more sense to be in the Lands Between if he was the offspring of Yura. He was probably just another unconnected samurai who made their way to the Land of Reeds.
Having the tear with her always came across to me as Eleonora never actually serving Mohg, but following him for power, and that she always intended to betray him. I think she was written as the type of character who does absolutely anything for more power. Quite sad that Yura chose to simp for her.
We actually believe she went the bloody fingers path to break out of the cycle of dragon communion that would have turned her into a magma wyrm. Replace one form of power with another that won't change her physically

I like Yura a lot in terms of his character design despite being from the Land of Reeds that he’s not just a normal samurai. He has a good mix of equipment and gear more fitting for the Lands Between, while still keeping some identity of his old background. His armor set says it all, Ronin armor. He’s less of a samurai now. More of a wandering ronin in this new land, making use of equipment and assimilating into it. As he’s been away from his homeland for a long time now. Yet he still keeps a bit of his own identity with him in some aspects of his armor and weapon.

not long after you reach the mountaintop of the giants you meet a possessed Yura who tells you to seek the Frenzied Flames and seems to wish if Chaos would cover the world, it seems that Yura was truly heartbroken over the betrayal of someone he held up to very high regard that his body was easily taken now that he lost the will to be in his world.
Yes, that would be Shabriri, we have another video diving into his origins. He claims Yura game him his body, but given that we see Yura's death, it's likely this is a lie to gain our trust.

Nothing in the lore calls out any relation between Eleonora and the frenzied flame so I'd say it's just for the visuals

@@lemnioaz3854 Unlikely. Shabriri seems to take the body of those already dead or dying and as far as we know Eleonora wasn't in that situation. Also, she doesn't use any frenzied flame incantations, which are Shabriris bread and butter.
