Everyone seems surprised by the elevator scene. In real life all elevators are programmed to return to the ground floor during an emergency. Since Ripley was in the sub basement all the elevators were above her. Once the Queen saw her enemy escape in the ‘box’ all she had to do was enter the second ‘box’ and wait. The elevator would then follow its programming and close door then return to the ground floor. Now admittedly the doors of the elevator would have stayed shut since no one pushed the button.
Also Cameron said they took a bit of licence with that scene as in reality the queen couldn’t fit inside that elevator
Why not just grant her the intelligence to know the buttons probably operated it?
If we exclude AI it’s interesting how rare it is to come across more intelligent species in films. Especially if they aren’t humanoid.
We just don’t know if being bipedal has any correlation with evolving higher intelligence. Hands or something that can manipulate objects in a precise way I would imagine is correlated but we only have a sample of one.
We know they’ll probably have eyes given eyes have evolved independently 9 different times, however multi-cellular life needs oxygen and photosynthesis has only ever evolved once so we have no idea if it’s rare or extremely rare. Our system developed after before the universe was 10 Billion years old and is already 5 billion years old itself. We therefore can make a guess we’re actually fairly early in a universe that will last essentially forever but be similar to its current state for at least another 100 Billion years. It’s therefore not impossible that the chance of developing photosynthesis was literally quadrillion’s to 1 and that explains why it seem to be just us. I suspect that’s not the case, but I do suspect it’s fairly likely that any galaxy only has one or two intelligent species in it at any one time. We’re extremely close to being capable of deploying drones that map the galaxy in about 1 million years by replicating themselves.
It’s therefore quickest way to do it without light speed travel which I suspect is almost certainly impossible.

My point wasn’t really about that scene and more the assumption (which you just made) that she wouldn’t actually be extremely intelligent.
All the rest of her behavior suggests she probably is.

Fun Fact: the scene where the marines are being briefed before landing on the planet was filmed last, after all the actors had formed friendships making the film.

A CPU (central processing unit) is the heart of the computer, thus the main frame computers used when this film was made had only one, so the whole computer was called the CPU. When this film was made (early1980s) smaller PCs (personal computers) were not generally in use and yet to replaced main frame computers.

No. There are no more films after this. Ripley and Hicks went back to Earth and got married and adopted Newt as their daughter and lived happily ever after.
One of the bests sequels. Was a treat to see you both fall in love with it.
When Newt pops up for the first time, Drake means to blast her but Hicks has good target discrimination and bumps him to redirect his aim--that's why Drake gets pissed at him.
Minor correct...it was Hicks that pushed Drake's weapon off target to save Newt.
Actually guys the third alien movie is not Alien Resurrection it is just plane Alien3. You’re thinking of the 4th alien movie called Alien Resurrection.
The new one that just came out is called Alien Romulus, also Prometheus is an excellent movie if you’re into the alien movies also the one after Prometheus is called Alien Covenant and then Alien Romulus.
The third movie is called ALIEN 3, and the FOURTH movie is called Alien Resurrection! And yes, you should watch them, as well as the Predator and ALIEN VS: PREDATOR movies! Also, I would LOVE to see you guys play Alien: Isolation, that would be PERFECT!!!

They filmed the opening scene with all the marines last so the actors would all have had time to be together and have more of a real interaction with eachother

I believe that xenomorphs acquire genetic material and traits maybe even memories of the host they hatch from like at end of Aliens VS Predator. The xenomorph that came out of the Yautja (Predator) had traits and skills of the Yautja chest burst from. I think this is why the Yautja race take trophies of the best prey so they can extract the DNA traits they admire then inject those traits into themselves.

The AVP movies are based on the comics , and have no attachment to the predator or alien franchises

1) Gorman and his marines was chosen because of his inexperience in combat situations. Weyland-Yutani planned on that on purpose
2) None of the marines read Ripley's information on the xenos so they had no idea what it was capable of
3) Sigourney's reaction to seeing the queen is authentic. She stayed away from the set to give the audience a real reaction
4) Presumably there could be more than 157 xenos. We don't know when the hive first started collecting its victims or if there was a juvenile queen running around despositing more than one chestburster into each victim to quickly build her hive
There’s a scene of unused clips when Ripley went to rescue Newt, she found Burke already cocooned and the egg pod was empty.
Very obvious why they never used that scene, not even in the Director's Cut. But it was interesting to see it.
If you play alien isolation. Hard mode is the standard difficulty. Below that and you don't really get the experience of alien isolation. Which is pure terror like it's supposed to be.

It’s supposed to be around the size of Saturn’s moon Dione, which has been detected to at least have an oxygen ion exosphere (though not exactly a true tenuous atmosphere).
Check out the movies Predator(1987), Predator 2(1990), and The Thing(1982).

I can relate. I don’t have acute claustrophobia, but that pipe crawl is insane. I always have to remind myself that if that was me, I would be a synth, too, so no fear of tight spaces, and more strength. 😅
When you're with someone for a long time you get used to their quirks especially stuff like Panic Attacks, being a Hypochondriac, Ect.
Yo so the "Facehugger Lab Scene" I feel Janes Epic reaction 100% - I was watching some random TV show, fell asleep, and woke up during freaking "Aliens" during that scene, at age 9 - My reaction was the same as Jane's LOLOL
So to jog your memory, the synthetic from the first movie kept sabotaging things per the company's orders in order to bring back the xenomorph alive. The crew was deemed expendable and it even tried to kill Ripley. Hence her intense hatred of them.
The start is a true theatrical masterpiece

Im glad you watched the Special Edition. Its the only way to watch Aliens. Its the most epic movie in the franchise. This is truly the end of Ellen Ripleys story.
Dont watch Alien 3. Resurrection is a fun ride but to me, its barely canon. Prometheus and Covenant are the 3rd and 4th best films in the franchise.
Sigourney Weaver was nominated for Best Actress. IMHO, she shouldve won
By the way, I advise you to watch Alien 3 and 4 director's cuts as well as Prometheus Directors Cut in the extended films there are a lot of interesting moments.

Alien to Aliens is like Terminator 1 to 2. First one focuses on horror while the sequel has alot more action

Also if you want to know what actually happened with Ellen Ripley's daughter Amanda then you can either watch someone play "Alien Isolation" or you can play it for yourselves.
Terraforming Planets
If you listen to scientists talk about how to terraform plants they all say for how much effort it would take to do so we could just re-terraform Earth with that technology.
Why land in strange place and not use the scanner they used in the 1st scenes…..no human casualties
They mentioned twice that *Ripley's report is on disc* for them to watch. So they didn't have to sit there and listen to her. Also, Hudson was being insubordinate because he is _short._ Meaning he only had two weeks and then he was out of the service.

Nobody associated James Cameron with Titannic. More like Terminator, The Abyss, Terminator 2, Avatar.. President was Reagan. Wont do any good to introduce CO2 to Mars til they figure out a way to re-liquify the core. This will restore the magnetic field, which will enable the planet to retain an atmosphere.

I think you have alien 3 then alien resurrection then prometheus then alien covenant and then romulous. There's also one particular alien game called alien isolation which I've heard often referred to as the scariest game ever. I decided to give it a go and I played for like 15 minutes half an hour until literally after the first space walk over to a shop in distress then I got too scared to walk around in the dark I'm going to try it again tomorrow night and try and be brave. The game I think is after this movie, I also played it in the dark as I usually love a good scare but maybe I need the lights on

19:55 the term "xenomorph" come from the latin words for strange (xeno) and shape (morph). goreman uses this to describe the aliens becuase it is a creature they havnt encountered before. but since people assumed the name xenomorph was actually what the aliens were called its just kinda stayed. like if they landed on a planet with gummy bear creatures on it, if they never seen them before they would be classified as xenomorphs aswell.

Honestly, watch them all. Whatever else, you deserve to see all of them at least once and come to your own viewpoint on how much you like/dislike them. There's no denying the first two are utterly brilliant, and the others are less beloved, but there are things to enjoy in each. It's worth at least a shot for each film.
The third one isn't just bad. It actively shits on the legacy of Aliens. Being bad is forgivable. What Alien3 did is not
@@mikefish1124 I certainly can't argue that. I hated what the 3rd one did to the ending of Aliens, among other things. There's some parts of it that are an interesting movie by themselves. Along with Resurrection, I often felt they were interesting movies on their own, but as part of the Alien franchise I wasn't happy.

About the Colonial Marines, the game, they found out that there was 1 line of code that was wrong, and that was enough to completely brake the game. It is quite chalenging if you fix it, in the pc version. If you ask me, someone in the production of the game got stabbed in the back and he/she messed with the code on porpouse. The end result was that awful game that we all saw.

Alien Resurrection looks better and better the more sequels they pump out. They just keep getting worse. Say what you want about it, the characters are interesting and it's not quite the same plot as every other Alien movie.
The only ones you should watch after this one are “Prometheus” and “Alien: Covenant” because they focus on how the xenomorphs came about. Romulus might also be worth watching. I’d skip Alien 3, Resurrection, and the AVP movies, but you can obviously do what you want. 😅

No disrespect, but it’s ridiculous when one of you has obviously seen the film and try to offer cues as if you haven’t seen it. I teach literature and film, and it’s a really absurd, upsetting, obvious sort of mislead. At least be honest and say that if you watched it long ago and can’t remember, be sure you can’t remember. People don’t watch these reactions for fake-reactions from one of you.
Rhetorically, it’s obvious he remembers the film and cues her up. And yes: I know what I’m talking about.
