I will be trying to post simple daily videos for inspiration for my students, and my subscribers to help give us some learning and distraction during this national emergency. Here is a link to the playlist I am adding to: • Online Learning During...
This video shows the process I used to create a handbuilt citrus juicer with slab and pinch methods of construction!

I am a public high school ceramics teacher at William Mason High School in Mason, Ohio. (Mason is currently the largest high school in Ohio!) As a potter, I have been working in clay for over 30 years, and I have been teaching for over 28 years, the past 20 have been specifically teaching high school ceramics. I love what I do! I have my own studio in my home basement, where I work on my personal pottery for my Etsy site; www.etsy.com/shop/KaransPotsA...
I started my RUclips channel a few years ago, to make videos to help my students if they are absent and miss a demo, or if they would like to explore more advanced techniques independently. I have been amazed to reach such a wider audience than my own students!
Please subscribe to my channel if you would like to receive channel updates, or would like to learn more about clay and studio processes!
Very positive and constructive way to divert your mind.
Excellent teaching! Thank you for your videos. 😊
Haha - love the corn holder tool adaptation! Very inventive.
Your videos are like a warm hug - learning so much for my at home practice in Sydney. Thank you
THANK YOU KARIN FOR THESE VIDEOS ! They keep all of in touch with clay and skill building
Loved this video - have mislaid my wheel thrown juicer so time to make another!
you are wonderful, great instructions. thank you for posting!
I like it, I will have a go and make one. Cheers Bob 🇬🇧
So interested in your informative and easy to follow videos! But also obsessed with your perfect mani!
Thats brilliant! Thank you so much. 🤩
Great idea I may have to try this one myself. Looks better than the one I have now.
Now I need to make this!
Great one. Would love to see it finished
Thank you -- this seems doable on my own. I am going to give it a try! I need to make your corn bevel (hahah I love it)
Muy lindo, gracias. 👏👏👏🤗
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you I do want to make my own citrus reamer.
I am looking forward to seeing all of the pieces you are making fired. I am guessing that will be one big future video. I am trying to find a used wheel, which seems impossible, and look forward to hopefully following along with your videos. May just have to buy a new one. Thanks!
Love your instructions. Hope you can do more demo videos on glazing. Recently I have problems using brushing techniques.
thank you this video is great
Cool idea!
Thanks for these videos. We are on strict lock down in Barcelona and I am really missing my ceramics studio
Thanks
I finished my citrus juicer a couple weeks ago and have been making orange juice almost every morning! I love it! Thank you for helping!!
That’s wonderful!!!! Yay!!!!
KaransPotsAndGlass and I made sure to make it extra big bc I do grapefruits too :)
Tooooop
👍👍👍👍🤩
Hey pro tip for spouts burnish the spout edge lets the liquid come off easier, I use the bottom of a long handled tea spoon.
Great idea!!
@@KaransPotsAndGlass I love teaching pottery, and we all never stop learning. the way to throw a juicer is the same start to making chip and dip bowls, corkless salt shakers, ring jugs, and a few. other pots. I love hand building tea pots do you have videos for that?
I am starting with clay and you videos are so helpful. Could you please tell us how to fire white clay in a kiln. Thank you
Hey, I’ve wanted to make one of these for a while! Thank you for the how-to. Could you do a video on firing your pieces? I’m a new kiln owner (the community studio is closed) and I have a new-to-me manual kiln. Could you talk about bisque and glaze temps and loading?
Absolutely!!! This was the last piece going in my current kiln load! I will discuss the firing of it next week!
KaransPotsAndGlass Great! I can’t wait to hear your talk about kilns.
Is it safe to work in your studio for long periods of time? I just set up an studio in a spare bedroom but i'm worried about the clay dust with my family and pets. Love love LOVE your videos! I wish I had a ceramics teacher like you when I was in grade school (:
I love your videos thank you. Where did you get your big rolling pin please?
Try any ceramic supplier, or maybe a restaurant supplier! I order most of my stuff locally from Cornell Studio Supply in Dayton!
Great project to do. I shall be trying this when y pottery group starts up again. Should I use a food safe glaze on this?
Yes!! Food safe would be necessary!! 🙂
But can you make a teapot that would fit with this as its' lid? 😊 (Ok maybe a smaller version, looking for a teapot that has a lemon juicer as a lid)
Lol- anything is possible!
Do you glaze this for use? Does it matter what you use?
Yes I will glaze after it is bisque fired. And, yes, you need to use a glaze compatible with the clay body you choose! Check out this video with technical information which you may find helpful! ruclips.net/video/mDB9pRUXuNA/видео.html
Do you have a video where you show how to glaze this piece?
Not yet- but I will!!! :)
what cone do you fire that at?
Because it is a cone 6 clay, I bisque it to 04, then glaze fire to 6.
Hi, did you say mud tool shredder? Sorry since i am in india i didnt quite find it anywhere
Yes- Mudtools is a brand of great clay tools here in the States- Stanley brand makes a tool that they call a surform- since it’s a bigger company- those might be international! I find those at hardware stores- often sold near rasps.
Oh- and I should say- I think they’re sold for plaster ise
Use-
They are also called SURFORM SHAVERS and can be bought in some DIY stores or online on sites like Amazon
I love the project. I plan to try this one. The only issue I have with the video is that she started off saying she wanted to offer a distraction from the grief the Covid-19 has caused because of the quarantine then droned on listing why the quarantine sucked. We could've used the distraction of how bad things are without being told she was saddened for her students.
Sorry, Yolanda- but I am sad. Really sad. I guess it was a day when I felt it strongly. I will try to do better. I have a ton of seniors who are great and I miss them and I never had closure with tme... and my own daughter who is a senior. And I was talking to my students as well so they know how I feel. Sorry if my droning on was not pleasant... but it was me, and it was real. :)
@@KaransPotsAndGlass I can understand that. I'm sorry
Very well done but a little too big!
So Soap clay things shrink 15-20% though after being fired twice. I’ve never made this object but I know from experience that shrinkage is real!! And all clay shrinks at different percentages
Alana is correct- this still has a LOT of shrinking to do! Once it is fired, it will be a good size. It definitely looks bigger in some shots die to the exaggeration of the perspective of the camera lens!
@@alana1119 yes, true!
