Man this really works! Just follow the directions (type (on a single line) that he provides and you can't go wrong! By the way, Thank you man!
Hi Wesley!
The connection process was obvious. Glad to have the reassurance that I had done it correctly. I would ask you to include the type in directions written i the comments(they are not there). Please spend more time in making the directions to include visible for a 75 year old grammy who needs specifics in programming I am a master at plugging in--I have no idea how to program. Please help! Thank you Jan
Ok, this worked great! Glad I finally get to use this Apple Superdrive. My recommendation though, if you are still shopping, by another brand, they are often cheaper and you will not need to do this maneuver. But if you did , this works!!
I LOVE YOU!!!!!!
Works great on my Mcbook Pro late 2011!
Good night, my name is PAULO, I'm from Brazil and I made the filming on iMac 1224 late 2009 and thank you for this video ...
Hi, so I was trying to connect my USB superdrive and I follow the directions in the description, but it didn't work. It kept saying "Error writing /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist:". What should I do? Please reply back, thank you.
same error for me
Same error
does't work to me. I followed your instruction step by step but at the end after last "enter" terminal wrote "error writing", in that case I cannot restart my machine :(
hey wesley, in my case, i have a macbook pro '19, 13 inch, how can i do to connect my laptop and superdrive?
thanks from e
It all has been said before, but it is imperative that SIP is disabled first in recovery mode. Then reboot to normal mode and edit the plist as shown in the video. Return to recovery mode to re-enable SIP (optional) reboot normally and Bob's your uncle. Tested on MacBook 2010, High Sierra.
Big thanks to Tech Runner Wesley!
Amazing thank you! Was about to take my data doubler out until I did this!! Used the link in the comments, restarted, worked a treat! Thanks again.
the string wont come up after i paste the 1st instruction
I’m having trouble. Can you help me
Why don't they enclose the superdrive along with the macbook if they are designed for specific series of macbook?
This video worked! There are also a few extra things to try in these comments. Thanks so much!
Last step when I have press enter and quit Terminal, comes up with an error. Any thoughts? Cheers
Hi, when I hit to save, I got this message: [ Error writing /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist: ]
Same here. Found a solution?
HEre too
I Get The Same Message did anyone figure whats the problem ?? This aint working , any solution guys ?
Same here. Any help?
@Gustavo Velasquez I had that problem... I'm guessing I had copied it wrong, I copied and pasted it from another site and it worked. Try coping this.
sudo pico /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist
thank you, this worked first try on my 2010 white macbook
Hi
When I try to type my password I find a key simple beside password and refused to type password
where is the command window. So I can download a driver for my SuperDrive
I did follow all the steps; but when it comes to Enter "Control @" - It does not show " yes"
You assume people know about computers. This would have been better if you went slowly step by step. I could care less how thin it was and how slick the case was. You said to open terminal window. I have no idea what that is. Next time you demo something you should go at a pace where you assume the viewer has NO computer experience. Waste of time.
The operating system that runs behind the windown on a Mac is Unix. Unix has a terminal window. On a mac, it opens by going to Applications/Utilities/Terminal.
Will this still work in 2020 I recently switched from android to iOS and I’m currently looking for a budget ecosystem thank you
Hey Wesley my name is Wayne I’m trying to use external SuperDrive with my MacBook Pro 2012 with retina can’t get it to work
Does this method work the same if you have the internal Superdrive installed and working? For example: I have a Macbook Pro 2011 - A1286 and the internal CD reader works perfectly, but I wanted to install the USB SuperDrive, to have it enabled, in case of an emergency.
will following these instructions in any way impinge on the use of the optical drive for other applications such as Face Book for instance
Thanks for the sharing the tip Wesley. Was a real great help.
hi, i can´t save the change, I press enter to confirm the file name and terminal tells me [ Error writing /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist: ] :(
same happen to me
Hey I tried what you said and got this [Error writing/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist:]

hi I am downloading my music onto my new macbook and I took the first cd out and put another one in and it isn’t recognizing it. What do I need to do? thanks
Denise Winton sams here
Almost worked but just got an error message. Then I read your💻’s display had to be a Retina display?
So I got as far as entering "mbasd=1" section. In your instructions you say then do control+x, when I do this it just makes a noise (as in this is not an option). I figured possibly you meant control+q, which is typically what you do to close something. It asked me if I wanted to close, I hit yet. Never did it ask me to save. I did it again, prior to closing i hit control+s to potentially save, but all it saves is just a text box. Any advice?
this worked for me!!!!! so happy, thank you
I got to the mbasd=1 stage and I am able to save it and pressed enter but nothing changed. I restarted my MacBook Pro but still nothing happened. My MacBook still can't recognise my CD Rom. Please what should I do?
I did everything shown in the video, I have a Macbook Pro (13 inch, 2018, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports) and it keeps saying error writing. Idk why it is not working for me 😫
Nothing happened for me as well, everything was done as you showed it. I turned off my computer, went and purchased the USB Superdrive and came back plugged it in and turned on my Macbook and nothing appeared... What up with that. HELP!!!
Hello Wesley, I tried it but it won't let me change the file because It says "I'm not the owner of it" What did I do wrong?
I am working on a macbook pro that is runing windows 10 through bootcamp, is there a way I can get the super drive to work on that?
after hitting Yes and enter it doesn't save in the end? how do i get it to save?
does this work with a iMac? I tried to do these steps and when I restarted the computer, the terminal box came up with the code, again.
i have error writing after ctrl+x and Y enter... cant save file even as super user ...
Just got the SuperDrive I have a Apple Mac Pro Ma356LL/A Tower. Can't get it to work can you help me.
My imac doesn't accept the DVD
My question is does this work on 10.5.8 ? .... I have an Imac 8.1 model 2008-2009 its stuck on osx 10.5.8 so i need to install snow leopard via a disk . PROBLEM IS MY DISC DRIVE DOESNT WORK IN THE IMAC ... My question is does this INSTALL and work on 10.5.8 ??????????
+EEZAL bit of a weird run around but... you can instal any mac osx onto a blank HDD so if you download 10.6 or above from the internet then plug in an old hdd which you don't mind wiping, you can install the new osx on that. Then boot your mac from that external HDD move all your files you want onto that external your running your new osx on then wipe your internal drive. then repeat the new osx installation on your wiped internal drive, move all your stuff back over and you've got the new osx without the worry needing the disc
No file appears in the screen. How do I know if I have an factory optical drive?
Do you know how to install the usb superdrive on a macbook pro 2017?
I love my Apple Macbook Pro i like The speed. The new refreshed model comes with 8gb of memory as a base.

I had it working this way and after a couple patches and the new OS load, this doesn't work now. Settings still in Boot.plist. Ideas?
I have MacBook late 2008 with OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.6 (15G1212) and I Inserted mbasd=1 in the String, restart Mac and nothing still I'm not able to use Apple USB SuperDrive (After restart I have mbasd=1 in String)
I wanted to know if this process will work on my 09 Macbook pro 17". My cd drive was removed in place of a another hard drive i believe. i bought it this way and i didn't really think i would need the cd drive. So i bought a macbook air SuperDrive thinking i could just plug into the usb drive and i got a error message saying not compatible. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. thanks
I cant take off cd from apple usb superdrive,it stuck inside it ..What should I do ?
Hi Wesley, I just tried to follow your instructions to interface my new USB SuperDrive with my 2016 MacBook Pro. All was going as you described, but when I hit enter as the final step, I got the following message [Error writing/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist:] Not sure what to do from here. This is the first time I have ever tried to add something to the Terminal. Please advise. Thanks in advance!! Melissa
You'll have an typo or space to many
Make sure you run the command as a superuser. (Thats what the "sudo" does)

Can you help me? I am trying to get my NEO USB2.0 Tray Load External DVD-Writer to run in my mac... do I do it like this clip?
Hakrazy's comment did the trick for me, there are indeed several options in the comments here that didn't work, but take your time and go step by step, you'll be happy when you figured it out!
Thanks to tech runner wesley for getting me on the right track!
Jump to 3:56 to avoid unnecessary talk.
What Mac are you using (what year)
just bought an Imac 5k dose it not work on mine??????@tech runner wesley
Thanks for the video, unfortunately the fix does not seem to work for Mac OS Sierra. Tried 4 times with no success only error message: [ Error writing /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist: ]
Maybe Apple caught on to this fix and stopped allowing it, hopefully another way around it.

hi, after I put in sudo pico /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration /com.apple.Boot.plist in terminal window and press Enter, and typing my password and press enter again, the String text wont come up...instead I'll have the same page you are having in your video(the second Terminal Page) with no text in it

Tried it and it didn't work. Will it mess up my macbook if I retry, or is there a way to undo it to try it again?
I found another way.. Haven't tested it but try this
sudo nvram boot-args="mbasd=1" then restart.

How do I open a terminal window?
Where can I find the terminal window?
Finder/Go/Utilities/Terminal
De beste dvd ripper software
What do you do for El Capitan version
Plug in the usb superdrive and close all other apps.
Open the app called Terminal (located in /Applications/Utilities), then copy/paste this into Terminal:
sudo nvram boot-args="mbasd=1"
It asks for your root/admin password. Type it in (won't be able to see it) then hit return. Then type in "sudo reboot" and hit return, then the comp will reboot.
Worked for me.
Can u burn cds with this ?
can you help?
how do you hit yes>?
I have MBP 2017 it's doesn't work when I write my password😭💔

I'm trying to use this drive on my Dell 2-1 Tablet. My computer identified what it is, but it doesn't seem to want to operate it. Any suggestions? Or is it useless for me to try
Google and download the driver, then install the driver.
I believe it's only good on Apple products. I also believe he mentioned this in the video
Hi, for some reason it wont leave me enter my password, I can't type it in
That's very odd, Check this out and see if it helps

Hey, I'll help you. Firstly, grab your mac. Then go to your window. Last step: throw your mac out the window at a passing car (just to make sure it's destroyed).
Hope this helped. :)
its command z,v, and so on btw
where is the teminal window
The terminal window allows me to put in
sudo pico /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
/com.apple.Boot.plist
but I can't get the string text to come up. Am I supposed to push enter after the above command? I don't have a Macbook, does that matter? Thanks for your help!
It shouldn't matter what type of Mac you have just as long as you have a factory optical drive, If you don't already have one then you shouldn't have to do this.
Yes, Hit enter after the command, type in your password and then the file should appear in the terminal window.
Tech Runner Wesley Hi, when I type sudo pico --- command the editor page appears, but with no text in it (no stuff) -- so, what should I do?
Archil Gomiashvili hes lie ing
This can be used on a 2013/2018 correct?
I just tired, it doesn't work..
Pierrot Cctglo oh but I thought it would definitely work in place of one that isn’t Built in 😏😏
Sheila Folan i know.. I saw on apple.com that you must use an apple adptater (USB to USB-c)...
This is BS with Apple, my old DVD player did work for a long time then it quit working. I went to best buy for a new one same model number A1379 then it did not work at all. Went back to BB exchanged for another one. Same thing, nothing. Best buy guys had no idea what is wrong with it. Apple people needs fix their own problems before selling !
