Paul and Silas taught God's word in the city of Berea. The people there listened to what the apostle and his co-worker said, and then looked into the Scriptures to see if what they said was indeed truth from God. They did not just blindly accept what they heard, but looked into the Bible- not Jewish teaching (or Amish teaching). Luke is very positive about what they did. He called them "fair-minded" or "noble". That word can mean "open-minded, fair, and thoughtful" (that from the ESV Study Bible). So a divinely inspired writer of Scripture stated that is what we should do when we hear any teaching claiming to be from the Lord.
The fact they were telling you were reading the Bible too much was a huge red flag. I’m sorry you had to go through that and your pastor friend got kicked out.
0:04 caused a literal pain in my heart. I was so sick with sin and reading scripture is medicine for my soul. I admire the way Anabaptists reject worldly ideas and strive to live like that but no one can pry the Bible out of my hands.
I went past your mom and dad‘s house today and it looked like they were having church I thought about you. I thought about the relationship and the pain and everything that goes with it and 1:15 Jesus words where he said follow me I will make u fishers of men. There’s more scripture that could go with this, but I’m just so thankful what God has done in your life and pray that your mom and dad would also find the truth in Jesus.

There are some who know the truth of God's Word. I believe the New Order Amish do, and they are a much smaller group of Amish. A lot of people who find the truth usually eventually end up leaving.
Jesus is the truth! Those who love the truth above all else will find themselves at the feet of Christ. Your love of the truth is what allowed you to escape the cult, I believe.

Thanks for your input. I am a Mennonite. Anabaptism started from Bible studies. Bibles were only in Latin prior to the 1500s. The printing press was invented in 1490s. Before the printing press only the Catholic priests had copies. With the printing press many more copies existed People who knew Latin could translate the Bible into other languages. At the time of the Anabaptists the Bible was being translated into German. Early Anabaptists did some translation. They discovered in Bible studies that what was being taught by the priests was not in the Bible. Anabaptists met in groups so that one person did not interpret something wrongly. This is why Bible study meetings are important. They found the Bible does not talk about baptizing infants. Instead there should be believers baptized. As a result they left the Catholic church and formed Anabaptism. Keep up your studies.
Hi, this video has been very interesting to me because I have been told the exact same thing that if we read the Bible too much that it could deceive us but I don't believe that anymore. I think the more we know about the Bible the better because we need to know the Bible because that is how we should live according to the Bible Jesus is the way, the truth and the life
Based on what I have read it appears the Amish more focused on following the Ordnung. Not all of these originate from the Old Testament. Following the rules seems more important than knowing the Bible. This is what holds Amish communities together.

Yeah, there is no such thing as reading it too much. It should be done daily to make sure what you are doing still lines up.
