For those of you who watched him slowly explain and describe three different types of USB cables, and then instantly whizzed past the part where you actually do the transfer: At 2:51 he extremely quickly says "Go to My Computer and click on it". My Computer appears differently on different computers. It's usually an icon with the tiny words "my computer" on it. On some computers it has no words at all, just a tiny icon of a computer. Hover your mouse over it and its description may appear. Double click on it to begin the procedure. Some computers have gotten rid of the My Computer icon entirely and replaced it with "File Explorer", with a tiny picture of a file folder on it. Click on it after you've plugged your phone in, and you should see your phone appear in a list of devices the computer recognizes. You're welcome.
AT LAST I have found someone who tells it as it is. Someone I can understand. Someone who's voice is not annoying. Someone who knows what they are talking about. Thank you so much!!!
You sir define "smart". I have watched videos on how to transfer files from phone to pc for two days. You got me up and running in 5 minutes. Bravo good sir.
I just have to say this. In your video when you pulled out your cable from your charging unit, you pulled on the wire. Never pull on the wire to disconnect anything. Always pull on the connector it self unless you are looking for future troubles. This applies to any plug on any cord whether it is a 120 volt appliance or an extension cord or any electrical device of any kind. Never pull on the cord. You will end up pulling wires out of the connectors and you will only know what you have done when it stops working and you have to buy a new one.
Thank you for the clear, concise instructions AND visuals! I searched all over for a visual, read a manual, and had no idea the cable came apart from the plug end! Duh.
Thank you for making this very simple! I watched several videos on how to transfer my "videos" from my Android to computer...NONE of them said to go to the charging icon at top to change from charging to transfer...such an easy solution! Thanks!
Thanks for the easiest and user-friendly instructions to transfer my pictures from an old Android to my PC. You saved me time and money. I am on the top of the list for tech-illiterate and your video was amazing to understand and follow. Yes, I accomplished the transfer without any kinks. I couldn't believe it but NOW I DO BELIEVE. Great video.
On some phones, when you connect them to the PC, they will not show up. This is because they are using the USB exclusively for charging. It's actually a security measure, to enable file transfers you have to go to the Android device - usually it shows up as an event "Using USB for charging", tap on that and there should be an option to change it to "Transfer Files" (or something similar to that, sometimes they call files "photos" of whatever). As soon as you enable this, Windows should ping and recognise the Android device as a storage device, and after that, you can copy files back and forth as you please. It's a pain in the butt, but as I said, it;s a security feature. It's very unintuitive, would be way better if you got a popup on the phone saying "Do you want to use the USB for just charging, or to transfer files to/from a computer?". My Moto phone is like this and I had to trawl through RUclips finding explanatory videos
Around 2:33 you went into hyper drive and I could not understand a word you said, but I think you jump started my own thinking to get me where I needed to be! Ha! Thank you!

When you plug your android device in, use the pull down menu at the home screen and click on the USB notification labelled "Android system". My experience with the Moto E5 Plus - I wanted to copy photos from the PC to the phone. You have to set the USB on the phone from "Charging" to "Transfer Files" so the computer will read the folders on the phone. The phone needs to be connected to the computer and on, go to settings, select Connected Devices, and then tap USB to show all the selections. Select transfer files (or transfer photos - I used Transfer files) and the PC will now be able to see the folders on the phone and the phone will accept the items you are trying to copy to the phone.

On many Android phones you also have to enable tethering. Thank you I'm not to savvy with this computer stuff, & and I have to transfer files from my android to my HP. You have helped me to understand a bit more. I am following you. Your friend Christine
I understand that you have to point out even the most basic things, that is a good tech support protocol. I want to MOVE the pictures and not just copy them. I have to free up space in my SD card in the Android phone. Since I don't want to lose these pictures in Google Photos, I can't delete them using that app on the phone. I tried using Gallery app. Also Google Photos will not allow access to the SD card where the pictures are stored. I tried using Gallery app. This too will seem to remove the cloud saved photos, maybe, it seems to do so when selecting multiple files. It may not do so removing one at a time. Trying removing them to trash one at a time is so time consuming, there must be a better way. Can I simply move the pictures instead using this method or will that jack up my phone? P.S. Everywhere I search for an answer the word "transfer" is used, and is ALWAYS resulting as a COPY, but never a MOVE.
Now, how can I prevent the photos from syncing back to the phone? I also don't want google office to synch but do want the mail to synch. Love the simplicity of your videos.

how do you transfer video files if it not in dcim files . where do you expect find the video if it not in dicm file .Thank you if anyone answer my question
This depends on which app has them. For example pictures and videos received in Whatsapp send the pictures and videos to it's own folder, not DCIM. The easiest thing (at least on a Samsung device) is to find your picture/video in the gallery app, while the picture/video is open, open the options menu and view the "details" (it tells you which folder the picture/video is in).
hello, thank you for the guidance. On my phone I have organized my photos in folders. I only wish to transfer some folders. Can I transfer folder specific?
Can the transfer be done from my android phone with this method to a "notebook" that does not have Windows installed on it? Will I be able to print the transferred information? I've also seen a method of downloading an android transfer app. That will allow me to transfer and save the information as a pdf. Will that work with a notebook that does not have Windows?
I know this is over 2 yrs later; but if you're still available, I'd like to ask a question. I have around 10,000 audio files that I'm uploading from my computer to my Android Moto Z Force. There's a ton of space left on the phone..fyi. But whether I'm downloading 100 files, or 1,000 files or more at a time, it's taking so so long to load into my phone. Each audio file I'm loading is only around 200ms/around 5-9kb of space. A friend has the exact same phone and was loading the exact same audio files into an app on his phone as well(same app audio bank I'm loading into), and to load all of the files only took him a matter of minutes he said. Do you know why this would be??? Thank you for your time.
It's hard to say. It could be anything. It could be the phone itself, some allow faster data transfer rates than other phones, it could be the cable, it could be the computer, etc.
Warsaw Missouri Hi Thank you for this informative video. This what I was just going to try to do. Temporarily now I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ and a temporary Samsung Galaxy 20 5g. 2 cords identical without one end being USB on both. They are the same on both ends. But I have new info on the 20 5g. And info on my note 10 that I want backed up on my Dell with windows 7. Now if it was phone to phone, I could use the smartswitch on both phones. CAN I USE THE SMARTSWITCH FROM MY ANDROID TO MY PC????? I WAS GOING TO UPGRADE TO THE 20 5G, BUT NOW I AM GOING TO RETURN IT TO SPRINT AND KEEP MY NOTE. DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS? Hello! I tried to use the steps you told me to do so and my main problem was that it didn't appear on my computer saying my phone is connected. So now I wasver clear after watching yoyr video and thanks for your steps....
My pc refuses to put any file on my mobile.. Tried everything and nothing works.. As soon as i try to put a song on it for example, it completely stops after a few seconds... Or the loading bar freezes, and when i click cancel, my windows completely freezes... Windows 10.
I have an old Galaxy S6 and my DCIM folder is empty...where else would my pictures and videos be? I have tried every folder and there is not a camera folder and none of the other ones seem to have pictures in them..have a bunch to transfer so I can factory reset..
I liked the info. It worked for me. But would like to say NEVER disconnect by pulling on the cable as this could damage the cable. ALWAYS hold the plug.

I LIVE IN A VERY SMALL TOWN AND THE CLOSES SPRINT STORE IS A HOUR AWAY AND I AM 69.
THANK YOU

I used to use a app called MyMedia to transfer things from my Iphone to my windows, i got a android recently and this video helped me a lot since it turns out MyMedia is not on my android phone
Hello! I tried to use the steps you told me to do so and my main problem was that it didn't appear on my computer saying my phone is connected. So now I wasver clear after watching yoyr video and thanks for your steps....
Very useful information. Turns out I just needed to tap the notification on the phone to change usb transfer settings 📱
My pc refuses to put any file on my mobile.. Tried everything and nothing works.. As soon as i try to put a song on it for example, it completely stops after a few seconds... Or the loading bar freezes, and when i click cancel, my windows completely freezes... Windows 10.
Same
Thx
I have an old Galaxy S6 and my DCIM folder is empty...where else would my pictures and videos be? I have tried every folder and there is not a camera folder and none of the other ones seem to have pictures in them..have a bunch to transfer so I can factory reset..
I liked the info. It worked for me. But would like to say NEVER disconnect by pulling on the cable as this could damage the cable. ALWAYS hold the plug.
