DRAFT HORSES Mid Winter Plowing in Lancaster's AMISH LAND to Control Weeds and Harmful Pests

  • Many fields are plowed in Lancaster County's Amish Land in mid to late winter. Not only does cold weather plowing destroy weeds and weed seeds it also destroys harmful insect pest habitat. Here we watch as teams of 5 and 4 draft horses/mules pull two way plows.

    That must be a warm winter day. Five horses on a one-bottom plow makes the work easy for the horses.

    That poor horse walking in the plowed ground. Hope they switch him out after a while

      Is there a lot of snow now in Lancaster? I think my family and friends in Snyder County have a lot of snow today….pictures are so beautiful! Makes me homesick 😢😢😢❤

    That's a whole lotta horsepower to pull a single bottom plow..... 🤔
