    I wish I had watched this video six months ago. After having my daughter in Christian private school and lastly a special school, ( there were many autistic and troubled older kids there). She was 12 at the time and was being bullied daily by students in their late teens. After the principal decided he wasn't going to punish the older students, I pulled her out!
    My daughter was in FLVS FT for maybe two months. She was overwhelmed and I was overwhelmed. I initially "thought" I was signing her up for a program like FLEX, that is explained here.
    I was so wrong she was put into Full-Time FLVS. It almost seemed like the people, whoever they were, insisted on putting her in full time. I told them she struggled, but they did what they wanted. By listening to this video I can pretty much tell the folks at FLVS that I want her in FLEX and I'll pick her coursework.
    Thank you so much for opening my eyes and giving me my power as a parent, back 😁

    Wow! Thank you so much for the much needed information. I have been debating on signing up my daughter for homeschool for the past 2 years. I was researching and watching RUclips and I was still a little confused between Virtual Public School (structured under a regular public school year schedule) vs regular homeschooling (for me it meant that I had to buy all material, do lesson plans and actually be the teacher and teach) which had me worried about running into a lesson that I might not fully remember how to do it. Now because of this video, I have learned about FLEX which is EXACTLY what I need in order for my daughter to improve and move in her own pace. She can go quickly through the lessons that are her strength and can slow down and focus more on the lessons that she might be struggling with. Public school in Florida has been so harsh when it comes to getting the kids ready for the dreaded FSA tests. Kids get stressed out. Teachers get stressed out. Everything is so rushed.

      Maria Gonzalez I agree with you 100% on the FSA/FCAT part. I’ve personally been on both sides by being the one taking both the FSA tests and former FCAT tests and having family members that are teachers for grades that take FSA. It’s stressful for the students, teachers, and even the parents. Everything is about passing those damn tests, nothing else. It’s really a shame.
      Anyways, I hope you and your daughter do well with flvs :)

    thank you for all the information I enrolled my high schooled in flvs flex this past December and I love it and completely agree The teachers he has had so far have been awesome. I have had more contact with these teachers then I have had with any of the teachers from the public school system and they are always there to help my son.

    I wanted to say thank you so much for the information. We moved from Connecticut so we had to purchase classes through the keystone school. The school was super challenging she got through the tenth grade but longer than expected. It took her practically two years. A year into being in Florida I realized omg my daughter is now 17 and needs to Learn to drive so I just started the flex for the one class but now I have confidence to keep her in the flex and drop Keystone May also end the confusion.

    I wish Ms. Kitchen had sent me your way last year when we first enrolled. We initially signed our daughter up for full-time, but being a travel photographer that was impossible. After speaking to the superintendent about our needs she recommended FLEX, but details were limited. Today's surprise email of "where's her evaluation?" was a shock. Thank you so much for all your help!

      Rob,
      Thank you! It has been a pleasure working you all. If you need anything, any time, just let us know.
      Yes, it is difficult finding accurate information about home education. This is why we are here now. It seems obvious that the majority of the county personnel, and FL certified teachers/evaluators, do not agree with with the freedom we have as homeschooling parents, and/or they just do not know the laws.
      Homeschooling is very similar to private schools being able to do whatever they want, with whomever they want, only, our submitting to the county, just a simple annual evaluation document, statement of student progress, gives the homeschool student way more benefits and advantages than the private school students, in MOST situations.
      Your feedback, questions, and encouragement is very helpful. We thank you for networking with us and keeping in touch.

    omg, you guys are a god send. I have been made to feel like it is impossible to home school my 8 year old bc of the requirements. The public school system is failing him badly bc he was a late diagnosis ADHD. We have him in counseling and he is excelling, except in academics, bc they only offer additional help 3 times a week for a half hour at a time. He has an IEP, that isn't doing anything, but putting a lable on him. They have him in his grade level class, and he is so far behind, he can't be taught the same as the others. He has been called stupid, has been made to feel like he has behavioral issues, bc he is sitting there bored to death, bc he doesn't know what is going on. I love, love, love your videos. I was bullied today at the virtual school office for my county this morning, when I took them all the paperwork to enroll 2 of my children. They made me feel like it was impossible. I am not a mother who lays down and accepts that. I am starting my research, and found yall, and thank goodness. Because you have answered so many questions for me. I am so thankful! I am going to be watching all your videos now. I just printed out my notice of intent, and can't wait to email to them! Here we go....I just got goose bumps. I am going to make my child smart, I am going to help in excel, I am going to get him up to pace and then beyond! Thank you again!! Happy Holidays! Angela
    Oh, quesiton, bc he has an IEP with public school. Can I enroll him into FLVS flex? Do I necessarily have to inform them of the IEP? I was told this morning that bc of the IEP, no one will accept him in a virtual type of school. He is in 2nd grade, failed 1st grade, was held back, then promoted to 2nd grade, even though he wasn't really ready. I know he needs to start at a first grade level and work up from there. Can you advise on this?

    • @TuckerEducationalServices
      @TuckerEducationalServices  5 лет назад

      Hi Angela! We are so glad that this video helped you! Yes, it doesn't matter if your child has an IEP, you can enroll him in Flex. You do not necessarily have to inform them of the IEP or 504 plan, but it could help them when it comes to adjusting his pace and expectations for a course. That is information that FLVS does ask parents when signing up a child. They cannot, however, NOT accept your son based on the IEP.
      You can start him in 1st grade on FLVS Flex if you feel that is where he needs to be. The best thing to do is make sure when you sign him up for Flex, you state his grade level to be 1st grade. He can do any course at grade level or higher, but not lower. So if you put he is in 2nd grade, he can't do any 1st grade level classes. That is why it's important to input the grade level that he is truly at, according to YOU.
      Hope this helps! If you are on Facebook, please join our FB group. It's called "Homeschooling Parents using FLVS Flex" and the address is www.Facebook.com/groups/FLVSFlex

    • @TuckerEducationalServices
      @TuckerEducationalServices  5 лет назад

      Angela, please forgive us for the delay in replying to your message. We are feeling goosebumps right along with you. That is the realization that you have the power to change your child's life. It actually can happen!
      Yes, you can use Flex if your child has an IEP. The people who told you that are lying to you.
      When you send the letter of intent YOU become the school official. YOU decide what your child can do or not do. If you choose to use FLVS Flex as your child's curriculum, there is NOTHING to stop you from doing that.
      If you feel that your son is at 1st grade, then start him there. But, trully, you might want to just get some 1st grade workbooks and see how he does first. FLVS Flex is a great option, but it is not always a good fit, even for NT children.
      If your child needs remediation, nothing beats one-on-one. Taking the time to sit with him will help him go faster than putting him in FLVS Flex. Right now focus on helping him feel successful and most of all to LOVE learning again.

      @@TuckerEducationalServices thank you, once again. I have since enrolled him in first grade on flex. I am finding that he is perfectly capable. I took him off all of his ADHD medication. He is thriving at home. I think I need to look into another possibility for home education other than flex. Since he is having difficulties with language arts, writing and reading oh, it is quite difficult to do computer-based activities. I think I would do better with workbooks. being that I am a single mother raising four kids, do you have any suggestions for a homeschool curriculum that would be cheap enough for me to afford other than a computer-based curriculum?

    • @TuckerEducationalServices
      @TuckerEducationalServices  5 лет назад

      Angela, we are so glad to hear of the success you've had so far! What you have discovered about Flex is a very typical situation. Computer based learning is not a good fit for every student. Thankfully, you are homeschooling so you are not locked into that choice. You can drop it and try something else. The first year of homeschooling is a period of trial and error to see what works. You are learning so much about your child's learning style and that is very valuable information that you can only get from this type of experimentation!
      There are two curriculum publishers that have excellent math work-texts which can be bought for less than $30. You may want to buy the teacher's editions also, but you can find those on Ebay. They are Abeka and BJU Press. Both are Christian publishers, and they have excellent math and language arts curriculum.
      If you prefer a secular curriculum, then we like the Spectrum line of workbooks, as well as School Zone. With School Zone you can get a workbook that is exactly the skill he needs help with - for example multiplication or division. For more advanced math we suggest DK Math Made Easy workbooks. Here is a link to them on Amazon so you can see what they look like: amzn.to/2D6VcTa
      Language Arts is also available in the School Zone workbooks. Here is a link to those: amzn.to/2HNdRZy

My child was just recently accepted to FLVS full-time but now after seeing your video I'm some what nervous now because my child is ADHD with fine motor delay and I'm really worried now since hearing this if she's going to be able to really keep up with the full-time program. Hello! First off, thank you so much for this video series! We are transplants to Florida from California, Our triplets have been enrolled in a school here in Saint Johns, and my husband and I feel it's "OK"... I feel like one of our daughters is really struggling in math, but is getting pushed aside because she is not quite up to the standards and the FSA adds so much pressure.. I am considering homeschooling all three for their 5th grade year (now that we are all forced to homeschool the remainder of the year because of Covid19). I am gaining confidence and thinking Maybe, just maybe, I could handle this! Our daughter has made such great strides this past month with the one on one attention she is receiving and is doing so much better in math already. I feel like this might be a good path for us... I have a question about the flex vs. full time.... Is there a make shift "Schedule" given to parents, or one that is already made somewhere that we could sort of follow? I am nervous to do this on my own but also feel we can handle it if there is a clear guideline as to what needs to be done each day (or the expectations kind of pre-established of what goes into a "week worth" of education). Sorry for the long message, and I appreciate any and all feedback. I am super nervous to start this but also excited and feel this sort of pull that THIS is the right path for us (even though we live in A+ rated school district) I feel like our children's education needs more followup and attention than what is being provided currently. Perhaps the schools are very concerned with test scores in Saint Johns County and if you fall behind, you're left behind because the teachers need to progress forward? I am speculating, but I feel this is the case with us anyway. I just want to provide the best for our three 10 year olds! Thank you again for your time! Sarah

    My child's father passed away 5/5/ 2017 and he has been in the Flvs flex since 9th grade and he is now in the 12 grade however he turned 18 on 12/27/17 and because he was held back in the 9th grade at A private school Greenwood in Jacksonville, Florida he had to repeat the 9th grade. It was recommended by the Flvs school counselor that I place him in the Flvs flex because he has ADHD and can not stay on the assignments as long as other students and he can complete them at his own pace. My son was receiving his fathers social security that he had worked hard for for 30 years however how do I complete the section of the Social security form SSA-1372-BK saying that he is still in school. Who do I get to sign the form because he is in the FLVS Flex . He needs to get the social security that he deserves up until age 19 because if he was in a public school he would not graduate until May 2019 because of having to repeat the 9th grade. He is in Flvs flex 12th grade right now. Thank you so much.

    What does the transition from FLVS Flex to public/private school look like? As a “homeschool” parent what would I need to provide to show that my son is on track? It’s possible that if we switch to FLVS, he will go back to brick and mortar in the future. Also, with Flex how do you make sure your child is meeting the state requirements of courses? Yadira, thank you for the encouraging feedback! We can be your child's evaluator, you don't have to be in the same county in order to have the evaluation done. We do evaluations in all 67 counties in Florida (also in Virginia).
      To answer your question, if your child is a registered as a homeschooled student via a letter of intent to your county, then they can participate in sports at the public school - no matter whether they are using FLVS Flex or not. It has nothing to do with the curriculum that you choose. The only thing that makes a homeschooled student eligible to play sports and do extracurricular activites at the school is if they are registered to homeschool via a letter of intent to the county :)
      If you need an evaluation, we will be happy to help. We do many evaluations in Monroe county! Check out our website for more info: www.Homeschool-Evaluations.com

    Hello. We just withdrew out 3rg grader from her public school and now want to sign up with FLVS. We have submitted our letter of intent and now need to register but the FLVS site is a bit much to understand. We have decided on the flex as it seems to allow us to take the courses she needs and on her own time. My question is that it says class time required. What exactly is that and how does it work. We chose homeschooling for the flexibility to take the courses at any given time of the day and thought it was on our schedule. It is a lot of information and we just need some clarification. Thank you and have a blessed day.

I am thinking to enroll them in FLVS Flex for 1 st grade. But my kids aren`t fluent in English like me. At the school, they were taking ENL class but I don`t know how it will an online. I am a little bit worried about their language learning skills. Thank you.

    If you do FL Flex, do you have to send in a Letter of Intent to Homeschool? We homeschooled for 3rd and 4th grade. He went back to public school for 5th but we're thinking of going back to homeschool.

    • @TuckerEducationalServices
      @TuckerEducationalServices  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Cinda, to do Flex as a homeschooler you must send a new letter of intent to your county. Once your child is registered as a homeschooler, then FLVS will ask you to send a Homeschool Verification form to them. It is a PDF on their website, I will include a link to it here. Once they receive that form, then they can assign your child to a class.

      Mrs. Nordin, Good evening. Another aspect of sending the Letter of Intent to Home Educate, is the fact that the child is then registered as a home education, which allows the student many benefits with the county. The 3 choices of education that we have (and registering our children with one of them is required) are home, private, or public education. Home education is the best, in my experience. We can do everything that the public and private schools do, yet we have none of their requirements other than documenting student progress, and getting a document, signed by a FL DOE certified teacher, that states that the student is progressing. Yay!

    Does FLVS FLEX require DBAs (discussion-based assessments) just like full-time FLVS. If so, how often? At what age/grade do they start doing DBAs? I've heard/read that a lot of kids get very stressed out with DBAs and dread doing them. Can your daughter comment on this issue? Thanks!

    • @JADABOO81302
      @JADABOO81302 7 лет назад +4

      Yes you still have DBAs in the FLEX. There is a DBA at the end of each module in each class. I just started FLVS this year so idk what grade they start. They are not stressful at all as long as you pay attention to the course and know what you are learning.

    • @TuckerEducationalServices

      We thank you so much for the comment, feedback and questions. YES, YES, and YES!
      Firstly, we are working on recording some videos about these questions, and suggestions that you have posed.
      Yes, the DBA's are done with FLVS flex, and from the very beginning. And, yes, they may be stressful, if you let them, AND, especially if the student has come out of the "one size fits all," "pass this end of the year, one time test, or fail," "don't get out of the box," school system (generally speaking).

    Hello, I’ve been researching homeschooling and there are so many options it can get confusing. Do you recommend FLVS Flex but going through an umbrella private school? I understand if you do that they keep records for you and you don’t have to meet annually with a certified teacher from the county? Thank you!

    • @ShannonDavis322
      @ShannonDavis322 3 года назад

      @Sylvi P
      Hi Sylvi!
      I'm going through this exact situation right now. I just learned that umbrella private schools are even a thing.
      Public school starts back in a few days and we're uncomfortable with that right now so I'm trying to learn what choices we have.
      Did you go with this option? If so, what do you think about it?
      I've seen that there is an option in some umbrella schools to join as basic with no grades or paperwork (basically just to be legal enrolled in a school I assume) and then there is one with grades and such.
      How are the records kept though, is there something in particular you have to send them so they can do transcripts?
      I'm not sure what to do here!
      If anyone has any knowledge on this I would deeply appreciate any advice or input.

    Hi, I just watched a video from another RUclips channel that said for FLVS Flex a portfolio and portfolio review are no longer required. I have tried researching this but have not been able to confirm this information. We will be starting FLVS Flex this summer and I am hoping that you can either confirm this information or point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance!

    • @lupitaeyde-tucker5767
      @lupitaeyde-tucker5767 6 лет назад +2

      Karen, thank you for your question and a chance to clarify what sounds like erroneous information that you've found on a different You Tube channel.
      WHEN you send a letter of intent to the county, YOU become the school official of YOUR school. That means that you are responsible to keep all records of your child's work and grades for any future purposes (transcripts, college applications, sports, dual enrollment, scholarships, etc.).
      If you send a letter of intent to homeschool, and you choose to use FLVS Flex for one or more courses for your child, that does not change the fact that you are still the school official, and that your homeschool is the official school of record for your child. FLVS does NOT become your child's school.
      Even though FLVS does keep record of the grade your child earned in an FLVS Flex class, FLVS is NOT your child's school, and their transcript is not your child's official transcript. ONLY the parent of a homeschooled child can issue an official transcript for that child.
      If you are homeschooling via a letter of intent, no matter what curriculum you use: FLVS, dual enrollment, Khan Academy, Abeka, BJU, Acellus, Time 4 Learning, etc., you are still required to follow the FL homeschool law. That means keeping a portfolio and sending in an evaluation to the county once per year.
      Keeping a portfolio for the subjects that your child is doing with FLVS Flex is a simple thing. You can take screenshots of assignments, or save them in MS Word on your hard drive or in a cloud storage before your child submits the assignment. You can also take screen shots of your child's gradebook, which serves as the activity log. You can also keep a list of any books or resources they use while learning. All of these things will make up a portfolio for a student using FLVS Flex.
      Also, using FLVS Flex does not exempt students from the annual evaluation requirement. This is very important:
      You have 5 options to do the evaluation:
      1) have a FL certified teacher review their work (easy, inexpensive)
      2) have a FL certified teacher administer a standardized test.
      3) have them take the FSA (free)
      4) have them evaluated by a FL licensed psychologist
      5) any other method that you and the county agree upon
      Examples of option 5 include sending an unofficial FLVS Flex transcript with courses completed in the past 12 months. Not all counties accept this, so you have to check with your county.
      Some counties accept this, but have stipulations, for example many counties insist that the transcript must have completed 4 core courses in order to qualify as sufficient progress.
      Using FLVS Flex as a curriculum option does NOT exempt you from the annual evaluation requirement. You will still have to submit an evaluation. However, you have 5 options to choose from to fulfill this evaluation requirement (see info in comments). Some counties will allow you to send in an FLVS transcript under option 5. Some counties will not, or will impose subject/grade conditions. But, no matter what, you are still required to send in one of the 5 options by the 12 month anniversary date of your letter of intent.

      With flvs, you can access your course anywhere at anytime. Your school may have a scheduled time for your to do your course at school like any other traditional school course but that depends on what your counselor decides
      To answer your other question, anybody can do courses with flvs in the state of Florida for free. Public school students can take up to 3 courses at a time along with their classes at a physical school if they get approval from their school counselor. Hope this helps

    • @TuckerEducationalServices
      @TuckerEducationalServices  7 лет назад +2

      Jc, Good afternoon. FLVS - FLEX can give you a document of "completion." However, this is not a diploma, because if you are a homeschooled student, your parent or guardian is the school official who graduates you. If you are in Flex, FLVS is not your school, just one curriculum provider for certain subjects.
      If you are homeschooled, whether you are using Flex or not, your parent or guardian has the authority by FL law to graduate you and issue a diploma and transcripts once you have completed their requirements for their school.
      Most importantly, NO university, college, tech school, company, job, occupation, employer, NO ONE, etc. asks to see a diploma for anything. They ask to see your TRANSCRIPTS, and/or your SAT/ACT test scores.

      Raul, glad you have enjoyed the videos! The answer is yes, if you send a letter of intent to homeschool, your child can do extracurricular activities at your locally zoned school. It just depends what your child wants to do there. Some counties will allow a student to co-enroll for one subject or an elective at the p.s. while homeschooled.

      Tyler,
      Hello. We thank you for participating in the Q & A here on our Tucker Educational Services channel.
      YES, you can and you may! And, your children, with FLVS flex, can do just 1 class or 6 classes at any given time. We recommend, 3, maybe 4 (if really diligent and can manage time well), classes at a time.
      We will be happy to help with anything you all need, any time.
      Cordially,
      C. Curtis & MaggiLu Tucker

    I want to take my son out of public school and homeschool him next year for 8th grade. When I register him for FLvs Flex am I automatically registered with the State as a homeschooler or do I need to do something extra?
    Aldo if he decides he wants to go back to public school for high school, would it be a smooth transition?

    I have a question I just signed up my daughter was accepted for the FLVS Full Time to start this 2020 On January 9 that is when they start, thinking that with the Flex program she wouldn't be able to receive a diploma at all, and that with the Flex program I would practically would have to be her teacher of the courses since is more like a home school thing and I have no experience with teaching or curriculum's and stuff like that . I din't know that their would be so much more flexibility with FLEX which is what I am looking for her because of her condition. She has Type 1 diabetes and stress causes her sugar levels to rise high, specially with the FSA testing and all that. They assigned her for 6 classes to take for this 2 semester. With Being in flex program, would she stills use the FLVS curriculum which means I just have to make sure she completes her assignments on time, quizzes/test?? I need a bit more info please. She hasn't started yet in the Full time program would I be able to switch from it to the Flex program before she starts? I haven't withdrawn her from her current public school since they are not back from winter break in florida yet. I would really appreciate the info. Thank you

      As a senior about to graduate. FLVS is the worst education I ever experienced. I'm so glad I'm nearly done with this crap.

    Does FLVS FLEX provide the materials (delivered to home) like Full-Time does?

      Josefina, no. FLVS Flex is all online. There is nothing that you will need except what they provide online.
