Isaac this is a great video! Thank you so much for giving the student perspective. I am a parent looking at FLVS for my kids and you offered some great insight. I appreciate you taking the time to make this and share!
I really liked the video! I'm an flvs flex student, I absolutely love it! It's so much better because I'm very nervous around people, and don't really like socializing with lots of people. I agree with a lot of your points. One thing I really like about flvs flex opposed to flvs full time is that you can take classes during any time of the year, and take as much time as you need, of course there is limitations to that but there is definitely less flexibility with full time. Not that it's awful just something I would consider a disadvantage. Keep making awesome videos!
Wow this was a year ago! Now look at the nation! Everyone is now suggesting and requesting virtual school. You are ahead of the time. And hearing you made sense of so much that goes on in schools today. With COVID 19 now it will be just one more thing for teachers to face as a challenge as well as the students among all the other things going on.
Loved the vid! I’m a first year FLVS student sophomore and I have heard a lot of negative things about FLVS which are mostly from people that expected they wouldn’t have to actually work and learn. I love the flexibility it gives me so I would recommend it to anyone who is self-disciplined enough to do it
@@hnmrgg I am currently doing flvs and I can honestly say that i like it. The workload is pretty fine, the teachers usually reply fairly quickly, and after a while I got confortable with the DBAs. @@SavannahElyse1 I've taken 3 English courses on flvs, and it really is much easier online. there is only about 2 essays per year and 1 novel for each course, and compared to public school I think English on flvs is much more simple.
Thank you. I couldn't agree with you more. Public school is terrible and the only thing you learn is how to be robotic, bullied (gain a lack of tolerance due to this), see the world in a negative way, gain the liberal point of view and not a well-rounded point of view (politics should have NEVER been apart of the educational process with the exception of learning what it is vs. providing an opinion and force of opinion), and lack of attention to detail. Homeschooling gives you the ability to learn independence, you are safe, and you learn about the world from multiple points of views from several different age groups, etc. You literally learn way more and you gain self confidence which allows you to feel comfortable to grow in the world around you. Great job on giving an honest opinion about virtual schooling. It is different but it allows the 'system" to see where you are so that you can easily attend college when you are ready.
@The Foo !! Yep, They love to target vulnerable children. It is terrible and look how far down the intelligence, lack of respect, and hope has gone in our country. God Bless you and your family and thank you for your comment. It means a lot to me.
Thank you Isaac Stephens for your video it was very educational and informative. I had to some research for College on Pros and Cons to FLVS Learning. I absolutely HATE flvs. The teachers never answer and I'm literally failing geometry. The teachers expect the world out of me, and I'm tired of this garbage of a system. I'm going back to actual school as soon as corona is done because flvs is terrible.
I personally dont like it because I dont like to do schoolwork but for those people that don't really care, I think it would be good for them. Online school is much worse than being in a normal classroom because in online you are pushed to do 3 assignments per day and sometimes I can't even get 3 assignments in. I do get distracted a lot but even if i focus its still tough to get 3 in
Well your always gonna have to do schoolwork online or offline, but most teachers say 2 assignments a day, and if you can’t get them in you usually have to work during the weekends. If you set a schedule for yourself as a normal school day, let’s say you start at 8:00 and finish at 2:30. Most of the time if you do one thing in each class whether it’s a quiz or an assignment you will end up at the end of the week ahead of pace. That’s just what work for me personally lol. Just a tip!

the truth is it sucks. I am currently traveling the world right now and my cell number doesn't work while I'm in Brazil. my teacher tried calling me for my welcome call and it didn't work so she kicked me out of the class and gave my seat to someone else. I emailed all of my teachers saying that it wouldn't work and I wouldn't be able to do calls with them and they still just don't seem to care. I signed up for Florida virtual flex (unschooling) but I still have to do scheduled calls with the teachers?!?! its honestly ridiculous. I have done flvs in the past and I didn't like it but this time I do not have a choice because, well, I can't go to school in Brazil I'm only staying for 3 months then going to Israel. its super impossible and un-motivating to do my school like this.
Since you are in different countries a lot, usually without cellphone service, you might want to consider enrolling in FLVS Global School. It is tuition based but, it is like a flex and teachers wont be so pushy. ;)
My daughter is in 8th grade and I homeschool her now. She wants to go back to school in person, she wants the classroom experience and to participate in sports, but we travel a lot. Could I enroll her in FLVS, and she could go in school for the months we are in Florida, and do virtual for when we are traveling? Thanks so much for this video, Isaac!
My grandson just started this year an his thing that’s a down fall is he misses his friends an time with them we try to do as many sleep overs but he just gets frustrated that the fact it does get lonely because he is missing the everyday interaction with a regular class setting. I have almost no work here and im just looking for a little challenge so im thinking of taking two courses a year until senior year. this video really helped me. if you’re still active, how fast does a module go if i were to work for 6 hours a day on it? i kind of want to get through it as fast as possible
It wasn’t bad, don’t worry it was very informative, my daughter is considering doing this we don’t need fancy editing unless you start getting up and doing things maybe ha ha. Best wishes
Great video but I’m done with flvs the expect me to do everything I’m trying to do the virtual lab but the thing is they don’t tell you how to do it I had to DM my teachers and they don’t even respond and when they do I’m doing something else and then they tell you it just says record you observations on your lab report THEN HOW DO I DO IT
You have to download your documents and power points into pdf’s. Once you do that go into grade book (the check mark at the top right of the screen about 3 icons down). Click on the assignment your doing and scroll down. There should be a add file button (it’s a grey icon, not blue) and choose the assignment you downloaded. Hope it helped lol
Negative points 1. Class is harder with more harder tests 2. You have to submit 18 things a week, 3 in each 6 course 3. DBA's don't tell you what to study for, so you end up over studying 4. If you get caught for plagiarism, they call you on the phone! 5. If you get caught for plagiarism more than 3 times in one class you are forced back to regular school! 6. Barely have any time to read lesson, and do 3 tests in each class, when each lesson is 12 pages long, that is 36 pages to read! In total you have to read 210 pages a week, that is a minimum! 7. Doesn't have a live lesson schedule, so you end up, forgetting when it happens, if you don't bookmark it/save it 8. Some classes don't do live lessons 9. Some teachers call you on the phone if you fail an assignment 10. Can only withdraw from an elective course, the first 2 weeks. When your 3 weeks in, you cannot withdraw from the course. If you fail the course, they send you back to regular school! 11. It is easier to cheat then learn, because of time and pacing on sites like mathway and brainly 12. If you are not on pace your withdrawed! 13. It is very lonely without friends or teachers 14. You have to work on weekends to catch up. 15. Wifi goes in and out, causing work to be lost. 16. Hard to stay focus online 17. Hurts eyes, strains your eyes, and harder to get sleep. 18. Hard to do math online 19. Guidance counselors online are unprofessional and do not respond to emails or help 20. Taking a foreign language class online is horrible, as you have to talk in that language for DBAs 21. FLVS sessions cancel after an hour and you have to re-log in 22. You have to change your password every year 23. Some teachers call you without warning, waking you up from sleep, just to tell you to re-do something 24. You don't learn, its just about passing the course 25. seats are limited, hard to get into class 26. If the turn it in score is high, they assume you are cheating 26. You can't make friends 27. You get distracted 28. You have to be disciplined. 29. You usually want to submit 36 assignments per week. 30. Can be very stressful by yourself

Hi Isaac, great info, thank you. We are starting our first year by choice, even pre-COVID. Can you tell me your opinion on which computer would be best to begin our search? We want it to be a dedicated FLVS laptop, so there won’t be any gaming or other social use on this machine. Thank you for any insight. “Father of 9th grader, 1st Time FLVS Student”
@ Keith Beasley Do you have a specific budget in mind? Prefered OS, ex: macOS, Windows10, a Linux distro? I use my PC for FLVS because I personally think laptops are often too slow for my liking, most people don't have a problem with it I'm just into PC gaming and building computers :/
@The Foo !! Hello, the courses I’ve done haven’t needed a webcam. (Spanish 1 and HOPE, so far) But i have seen the option to do video DBAs, so I’d say that’s more of a preference. As for the pc versus laptop thing? I’d say use his pc, I personally have had the temptation to pick up a game simply bc of how close you are to it. By using his pc, it can build some good discipline habits in him.

right im a sophmore this year, bc of corona i chose to do elearning at my school but i dropped out of ib into traditional and now im soo bored. i spend 3 hours a week working on assignments and then im done! I have almost no work here and im just looking for a little challenge so im thinking of taking two courses a year until senior year. this video really helped me. if you’re still active, how fast does a module go if i were to work for 6 hours a day on it? i kind of want to get through it as fast as possible
I’m in 6th and my teacher are very nice, but the lessons doesn’t really explain good of how to do the process, plus the instructions are kind of bad.
It wasn’t bad, don’t worry it was very informative, my daughter is considering doing this we don’t need fancy editing unless you start getting up and doing things maybe ha ha.
Best wishes
Great video! Thank you!
Great video but I’m done with flvs the expect me to do everything I’m trying to do the virtual lab but the thing is they don’t tell you how to do it I had to DM my teachers and they don’t even respond and when they do I’m doing something else and then they tell you it just says record you observations on your lab report THEN HOW DO I DO IT
I don't know how to submit assignments in FLVS
You have to download your documents and power points into pdf’s. Once you do that go into grade book (the check mark at the top right of the screen about 3 icons down). Click on the assignment your doing and scroll down. There should be a add file button (it’s a grey icon, not blue) and choose the assignment you downloaded. Hope it helped lol
Thanks so much for making this video! It's very informative. How many hours a day would you say you devoted to virtual school? Thanks!
Thank you! I spent 2-4 hours dedicated to school, depending on the work load, Monday through Friday.
Good job! Thanks!
Thank you for your video! What about exams/quizzes and segment exams in Flvs FT, you can take it at any time or when teacher scheduled it?
The teacher has quizzes and exams assigned for the week but not for specific times. Only the phone calls need to be scheduled.
@@isaacstephens1865 thank you so much
Negative points
1. Class is harder with more harder tests
2. You have to submit 18 things a week, 3 in each 6 course
3. DBA's don't tell you what to study for, so you end up over studying
7. Doesn't have a live lesson schedule, so you end up, forgetting when it happens, if you don't bookmark it/save it
8. Some classes don't do live lessons
9. Some teachers call you on the phone if you fail an assignment
10. Can only withdraw from an elective course, the first 2 weeks. When your 3 weeks in, you cannot withdraw from the course. If you fail the course, they send you back to regular school!
11. It is easier to cheat then learn, because of time and pacing on sites like mathway and brainly
12. If you are not on pace your withdrawed!
13. It is very lonely without friends or teachers
14. You have to work on weekends to catch up.
15. Wifi goes in and out, causing work to be lost.
16. Hard to stay focus online
17. Hurts eyes, strains your eyes, and harder to get sleep.
18. Hard to do math online
19. Guidance counselors online are unprofessional and do not respond to emails or help
20. Taking a foreign language class online is horrible, as you have to talk in that language for DBAs
21. FLVS sessions cancel after an hour and you have to re-log in
22. You have to change your password every year
23. Some teachers call you without warning, waking you up from sleep, just to tell you to re-do something
24. You don't learn, its just about passing the course
25. seats are limited, hard to get into class
26. If the turn it in score is high, they assume you are cheating
26. You can't make friends
27. You get distracted
28. You have to be disciplined.
29. You usually want to submit 36 assignments per week.
30. Can be very stressful by yourself
You def over study for DBAS😅
Depends FLVS fulltime and FLVS flex are different
@@sheryl4319 I took both
@@Enchantedmusicandmorewhich one is better
Great Video young man

My Son has a learning disability and he's 19 finna be 20 what's the age cut off and does he still have to be enrolled in Seminole county school systems oh by the way I love in Florida to
Sorry for the very late response but you would have to get in contact with FLVS for that, I am not too sure!
Great informative video. Thank you.
What computer/laptop do you recommend for virtual School?
Thanks, good info 👍🏼
Hi Isaac, great info, thank you. We are starting our first year by choice, even pre-COVID. Can you tell me your opinion on which computer would be best to begin our search? We want it to be a dedicated FLVS laptop, so there won’t be any gaming or other social use on this machine. Thank you for any insight.
“Father of 9th grader, 1st Time FLVS Student”
@
Keith Beasley Do you have a specific budget in mind?
By using his pc, it can build some good discipline habits in him.
very helpful thank you
I want to do virtual high school so bad cause I hate waking up and going to school so early, I also have 4 months left of school, do you think it’s a good idea to do virtual high school right now ?
I’m in the same boat here
Thank you man great vid
I'm considering online school for my soon to be 1st grader. Did you do florida virtual school or florida connections academy?
he did flvs
What type of math does virtual teach? It is core or Singapore?
all it's available courses are listed on the website!
Can you still earn a Bright Futures scholarship? I’m sorry if it was discussed and maybe I missed it.
@@VoiceForTheSilenced I’m pretty sure you can still earn bright futures through virtual school. I’m not sure if it’s changed at all, I graduated over 3 years ago, but when I went through it, there were several opportunities for scholarships.
@@isaacstephens1865 Thank you!
LOVE THIS!! how long does it take for you to do your school each day tho?
I did about 2-3 hours each day when I did full time, I had six classes and did about a class and a half each day so that I was t overwhelmed. I’m graduated now, good luck with it if you decide to do it :)
So for full time can I get a normal high school diploma?
@@kelszys2740 Yes, graduating FLVS Full Time will earn you a regular high school diploma. FLVS Flex is the one that is considered home school, so if you graduate from flex you’d have to take a GED test or get your homeschool completion affidavit.
Thank you for your view I’m thinking of enrolling my 10 year old that is in 5th grade
Will they let you get ahead? Like do the extra work and finish a school year early? I am a seventh grader who will be doing it and I like to get things done and right
And is there an fsa?
Thank you for the information for my child. I appreciate you taking the time. Do you know anyone who has gone to Orange county virtual school? If so is one better than the other?
Hey I’m thinking about starting FLVS but I’m a junior and I’m trying to graduate earlier but I just want to do Florida flex not full time can I do that
Is also available for international students?
How do I see the graduation on 24th??
Hello. Do you have to take state exams? Thank you
In FLVS Full Time yes, but in FLVS Flex no.
I am and have been an flvs full time student for the past 4 years. All tho it has its good things, its just not for me. Great experience tho.😊
I do flvs ! $25 each segment 💕
Do you actually? 👀 what’s your Ig link?

Yeah it was hard for me too. I graduated but just try to stay on top of it, if you don't you're gonna wind up having to do-over classes or even a whole grade. It sucks but you got this.
