- The Chesapeake 1000 is a huge floating crane working to clear sections of debris from the Baltimore bridge that collapsed after being struck by a ship. But there's an even larger crane laid up in New York that could swing into action to help rebuild the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

Good concise explanation.
Chesapeake 1000 should be called Chesapeake 907, since it can lift 907 metric tons.
BTW, the concrete and asphalt road bed isn't attached to the section just lifted. All of that is still on the bottom of the river channel and will likely pose a significant challenge.
Why should that be a challenge? Just leave it down there, it's flat.
@electrolytics they need the depth in the channel to get large ships in and out
I don't believe dredges can handle it. Will take clamshell cranes IMHO.
@@gregsiska8599It'll have to be broken up first. It's largely in gigantic, really heavy slabs, remember. For some, i supposes there is a chance of putting enormous anchor bolts in and lifting them up that way, but just preparing them in all that muck and slime when you can't see two feet in front of you (literally) would in itself be a massive challenge.
@@electrolyticsThe channel is only 35 feet deep. The draft of some of these ships is close to 30 ft, if not over, already.
Nicely presented…excellent research.👍
So there’s a crane up the coast with nearly 2x the lifting capacity but it’s not being used ?
Government
good show thank you
Loved this video 👍
Great video!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Thank for thw Info. Greeting.
What a small world. I’m from Staten Island and I now live near the Key Bridge! Amazing how quickly this is going! 👍
Surprised they've gotten as far as they have
I've been following the clearance of the wreckage. They don't seem to be in a hurry to free the ship- I would think that would be a high priority.
You should call them.
@@robertpalmer3166 I will, by golly!
They have been working nearly nonstop since the disaster. Considering they have to remove a number of containers, other spans to the side of the ship, the span on the ship and then the road on the ship I am considering it will take some time.
@@JohnAndersonnnn I know they have to take their time doing the work, I just thought that freeing the ship was most important.
@@lawrencelewis2592 Stop thinking.
You've got a crane for sale not doing anything in Baltimore harbor?cant govt buy it and put it to use?or would that be too easy.
Im so impressed if they could just learn how to steer a boat next is it me or does something smell rotten in Denmark 😮
Government work is slow to start but once it gets moving can become truly awesome to observe #brooklyn_bridge
Small cranes company needs to make money to.
There is NO hurry. Big $ to be made.
There's also the body recovery to consider.
@@1972Ray A hiway dept. truck is hard to miss.
Swinging very slow. Understandable but they are going to get paid exceptionally for as long as possible.
You just woke up ? This is yesterday news.
It's also yesterday's crane and yesterday's bridge...1970's
@@TA-wg9oi- it could be yesterday's crane and today removal.
This is a piece from the other day, come on.
Haha they are still stuffing and farting around with it, just lift the debris off the bow of the MV so the ship can move back to dock, get repaired and have the rest of the containers unloaded.
It took that long for Globe and Mail to find out what other media have been reporting for two weeks!? Glad I don't rely on Globe and Mail for financial information.
THIS sould have never happened . Are all these videos advertisements for how big cranes are not far away
Old news.
If trump was still president the bridge would have been done by now
Sure believe that if you like. It is a Democrat state. There would be no funding until they voted a Republican in.
