The Prodigy managed to find a sound that appealed to both and so in the UK this brief period is fondly remembered all round.

I kind of forget how huge they were.
I once saw an interview with Liam and he was saying how when he started producing music he asked couple of famous DJs and producers about the music he wanted to make and all of them said "Don't do it". Me and millions of people are so happy he didn't listen and created The Prodigy.
My daughter saw Prodigy live in the early 2000s. She said Keith Flint was the most charismatic person she had ever seen. Small in stature but huge in spirit. RIP Flinty.
Prodigy are f**King iconic! They were a huge part of British pop culture and music throughout the 90s (and beyond). They came from the underground rave scene and broke into main stream. Its a meaty, commanding mash up of genres that works so beautifully. Keith was an incredible front man. Their earlier stuff was pretty dope too. 'No Good (Start The Dance)' is fantastic

@@nikolatesla6438 your love was the tune that really smashed the underground clubs over on the B side. Ha ha remember B Sides? The energy in music during the 90s and eighties was infectious.
Yup. A whole generation of us danced, drank buckets of water, took too much E and we're all on antidepressants now ffs! It was when clubbing became a sort of lifestyle. That was Dublin in the early 90s.
Christmas Eve 1996: My sister and I, in our early/mid twenties, are decorating the family Christmas tree, with this on TV. Our dad walks in, sees/hears 10 seconds of the tune, shakes his head in disbelief, and walks out.
I still have this song on repeat on my playlist. To this day. For me, that was the whole point of the song. A lot of kids (like me), we felt stifled, coming out of very strict moral upbringing in the 80's. When the 90's came (ooooh... and what a childhood it was!) - songs like these came out as a reaction. It was about screaming and rebelling. And it was good.
I was lucky enough to see them live twice and managed to get on stage with them when they were touring for the experience album. They are phenomenal live
Especially played through PA speakers with decent sub bass...... used to love doing that back when this was released and I owned a PA system for the band I used to be in...
Liam howlett samples a lot, he takes a sample & plays around with it, you'd be amazed to know how many songs he used & shocked to see what songs he used to make the alternative music he is well known for. RIP Keith Flint, he was one of the realest people in music. I had the privilege of seeing Prodigy live in 1998 at my first ever festival when I was 15. It was wild. Saw them again about a month before Keith left us in 2019 in Sydney, and it was equally as wild. The Prodigy are the true OG’s
I saw them on the 26th of august 2018 at victorious, let me tell you right now... the best experience I’ve had at my first festival. Their performance lasted 2-3 hours and after it finished the crowd didn’t want it to end. I was 14 then and I’ll be 17 this year, so I’m pretty young but I love them. One thing this song does really well is build pressure, release it, and build it up again. It's cathartic.

My biggest memory with this song - I was at a Michael Jackson concert in 1997, waiting in the front row before the concert started and there was random, popular music on. And there were so many people and you were squished in the front row and then they played Breathe and I was like... yeah, I'd like to :D it was an amazing concert though
Their sound is so unique. I was a teen in the 90s and they were such a sooound 🖤 The video for 'Smack My Bitch Up' was banned for an age but its brilliant 👏

Had the pleasure of being front row seeing these guys live! What an AMAZING show! I pulled a face at Keith during this song and he jumped off stage and held my hand! It was epic!
The Prodigy are easily my favourite band of all time and had the pleasure of seeing them live 5 times. What I love about them is their ability to merge and not be tied to any genre. They are rave, punk, hip hop, breakbeat, electronica, rock all rolled into one. I’ll pick a couple tracks from each able that I think are worth listening to to hear their evolution: - Experience (1992) - very ravey era Out of Space Charly [Alley Cat Remix] - Jilted Generation (1994) - rave with a hint of their darker side Voodoo People Poison No Good (Start the Dance) - Fat of the Land (1997) - expanding out and mixing punk, hip hop and electronic music You have already listened to the 2 big singles from this (firestarter and breathe) but I’d also recommend: Smack my bitch up (try to find the unedited music video if you can, it’s worth it!) Diesel Power - Always Outnumbered (2004) - a bit more rock / alternative focused Girls Spitfire - Invaders must die (2009) - back to the rave with more modern production (the next 2 albums are more of a continuation of this sound) Omen Warriors Dance - Day is my enemy (2015) - The Day is my Enemy Wild Frontier - No Tourists (2018) - Need Some1 Light up the sky I’d also recommend watching some of their live performances, they had so much energy and during their later years were more focused on the live aspect of their band and made albums made to be played live. Hope this helps!
Great reaction, Jay. You should check out some of their earlier stuff such as, 'Out Of Space', 'Their Law', 'No Good (Start The Dance)' and many others.
I had this song on my birth play list when my son was born. The midwife said it was the first time she had heard it in those circumstances. Totally needed to breathe
Since the first time, I saw them live, I couldnt listen to the studio versions anymore because this was the ultimate live band! From the first second to the last it was nothing but pure, insane, electryfied chaos in the pits. Since then there was nothing better in this universe than a prodigy live gig. Whenever they were in Germany, I went zu their concerts. R.I.P Keith Flint! It felt to me like their studio albums were just a hint for what to expect on the next gig. Check out some live content! You wont regret it!
Love seeing you enjoy them. I saw them in 2005 I was 14, it’s was a small gig in their hometown (and mine) in an abandoned horse race course, it was wild. One of the best nights of my life
Yep, I certainly grew up on that, it was on heavy rotation. :D The '90s didn't fuck around and the music videos were often highly artistic and kinda disturbing. I didn't think anything of it back then, just went 'neat'. I still think this is one of the coolest music videos ever.
Keith was a good chap, he used to run past me on a ex railway regularly when I was out in a tractor doing work on it. His whistle to get my attention could be heard through an very load 30 year old tractor running at full power through ear defenders! Got this and Fire Starter on CD single somewhere.
I agree, i remember seeing Firestarter for the first time on the video chart show and i was mesmerised and utterly freaked out in a good way- same with this.
I still remember the first time friends and I wanted to listen to this new band. We started the TAPE and started to dance through the whole house for the rest of the night. Awesome. I hope this will be the same living in a home for elderly people when my time has come.
Haha, yes this was on mtv! Back when they still played videos 😂 Their video for "smack my bitch up" wasn't even allowed to be played until after midnight!
Ive danced a million times to this in the 90s. Trance dance, it gets you into a trance and you focuses on only the beat, the light and all who moves on the floor with you. You move together as one, you become a tribe. This song is all about that.
I was in school when the video aired on MTV and I remember this was also a very popular clip. This and Firestarter were played on MTV and other music channels in my country.
I remember being 17 standing at the dance floor of the school party with couple of my also drunk friends and chanting Prodigy, Prodigy, Prodigy to the old fart DJ who always played things like Love is in the air, Wake me up when you go etc. He used to play Prodigy at the end around 2 or 3 o'clock at night.

I’ll pick a couple tracks from each able that I think are worth listening to to hear their evolution:
- Experience (1992) - very ravey era
Out of Space
Charly [Alley Cat Remix]
- Jilted Generation (1994) - rave with a hint of their darker side
Voodoo People
Poison
No Good (Start the Dance)
- Fat of the Land (1997) - expanding out and mixing punk, hip hop and electronic music
You have already listened to the 2 big singles from this (firestarter and breathe) but I’d also recommend:
Smack my bitch up (try to find the unedited music video if you can, it’s worth it!)
Diesel Power
- Always Outnumbered (2004) - a bit more rock / alternative focused
Girls
Spitfire
- Invaders must die (2009) - back to the rave with more modern production (the next 2 albums are more of a continuation of this sound)
Omen
Warriors Dance
- Day is my enemy (2015) -
The Day is my Enemy
Wild Frontier
- No Tourists (2018) -
Need Some1
Light up the sky
I’d also recommend watching some of their live performances, they had so much energy and during their later years were more focused on the live aspect of their band and made albums made to be played live.
Hope this helps!
Great reaction, Jay.
You should check out some of their earlier stuff such as, 'Out Of Space', 'Their Law', 'No Good (Start The Dance)' and many others.
Love the Prodigy! PS your expression while you watched the video was priceless lol! thx for sharing Jayvee :)
Definitely was on MTV. They even performed this song live at the MTV Music Awards in 1997? and I think they won viewer's choice.
Best live band I've ever seen. The bass is biblical.
I had this song on my birth play list when my son was born. The midwife said it was the first time she had heard it in those circumstances. Totally needed to breathe
Sorry, this comment just had me howling 🤣. If I ever have kids I'm putting this on a labour playlist 🤣🤣🤣
I did and the shamen - ebeneezer good ha ha
Hahaha that’s amazing!!
And your son has played your game and tested you every day since
I did grow up with this on MTV...
Seen the prodigy over 20 times perform live and even have them tattooed on me..
Best band ever!
So cool you’re listening to these guys, my friend Was a DJ at our wedding and we played mostly The Prodigy , even the oldies loved it!x
I was watching this on a Sat morning on MTV, my Mum got up and saw this....."Devil Worship"!
Prodigy awesome live, RIP Keith Flint, best dance music in UK, peace and love.
Love your reaction videos. It’s clear to see you appreciate all genres of music!✌️🎶
Went to see the Prodigy many years ago in Cardiff, they were supported by ‘Special Guests’ who turned out to be the Foo Fighters!
haha, caught the same tour in stockholm, what a night!
I grew up with this on MTV, hey I grew up when MTV was all music and no reality shows =) that was awsome.
Prodigy, absolute legends, their style is their own, can't be replicated. They are timeless❤❤❤❤
Jayvee respect to you bud. Brit music goes where others fail to.
Where they fail and do not dare to go...
If you want to be really, really scared - like pumping heartbeat frightened - then the video for "Come to Daddy" by Aphex Twin will get you there.
It was on MTV, and I was a little boy. I cannot forget it because I couldn't sleep at this night. But until now, I still love this song and band.
This song was at nightclubs and on music shows. Plus it was the 90s. Love how he can’t deal with how music videos were like in the 90s.
Wait til he sees Aphex Twin.🤣🤣🤣🤣
Not my taste in music but Keith Flint was mesmerizing to watch. I remember watching Fire Starter on the video charts and thinking WTF 🤣
I agree, i remember seeing Firestarter for the first time on the video chart show and i was mesmerised and utterly freaked out in a good way- same with this.
These guys originated from around 25 miles from me. They WRRE the 90's!
7 miles for me.....
I still remember the first time friends and I wanted to listen to this new band. We started the TAPE and started to dance through the whole house for the rest of the night. Awesome. I hope this will be the same living in a home for elderly people when my time has come.
What a great album Fat Of The Land is
It was always on mtv back in the day, my neigbours loved so much they would bang on the wall to the beat of the drumbs lol
Haha, yes this was on mtv! Back when they still played videos 😂
Their video for "smack my bitch up" wasn't even allowed to be played until after midnight!
Ive danced a million times to this in the 90s. Trance dance, it gets you into a trance and you focuses on only the beat, the light and all who moves on the floor with you. You move together as one, you become a tribe. This song is all about that.
I still get chills to this track after all these years
YES!
I was lucky enough to see two of their concerts. Some of the best I have ever been to!
Love this song! Love Prodigy! Pick a song and can't go wrong.
I was in school when the video aired on MTV and I remember this was also a very popular clip. This and Firestarter were played on MTV and other music channels in my country.
yup on behalf of all genXers we're completly well rounded individuals 😂
Totally- ..where'd I put my meds....
Memories! When MTV had great music on it. Man, I miss the 90s.
