Hey Smeedia, thanks for all the uploads. I have a 2015 STI and now that I’ve watched this video I am doing my 60k maintenance early and changing out the front and rear diff oil. Now I seen you put the Motul gear 300 in the front and rear diff. “In the comments” I found that might a bit of a concern for the rear diff being that it is a Limited slip and calls for the LS... what did you put in your rear diff? If you put the gear 300 was that a mistake? Lastly, What should I put in my stage 2 2015 STI rear diff?
Just a few more questions, what was the torque specs on the rear if any, and the torque spec for the front fill bolt. And how many bottles do you need for the entire job, got 5 but after seeing this think i may need another. Thanks in advance!
No shit I'm doing the same thing today lol. Mine is at 72k miles. What about sticking a magnet in the drain plug to get out any shavings ? Think it would be worth it ?
I pushed clean fluid through the rear diff off camera while battery were charging and that was enough to push out some debris. I used about .3 qts. A magnet inside might help though, worth a shot

4.3qts is the manufacturers fill spec. Too much fluid in transmissions and gearboxes will cause cavitation bubbles to form, degrading the viscosity and overall lubrication of the system. I would only fill what's recommended.
When filling the oil through the transmission fill hole, does that also fill the front differential or is there a separate fill plug for the front differential?

Question for you...I bought a subura sti limited 2017 modified already with 500 hp. What are ur suggestions...did I do good or bad..on buying it like that.
@@henrymiranda2690 take it to a shop and get it combed through to see what's done to it. Personally I don't like buying modified cars because I don't know what's done or if it's done right
Ok I will do that..thanks for the information
Great content been wanting to do this.. next video powering steering flush/ hoses issues pls?
Oh God, power steering fluid is awful to flush. Lol that one is a maybe if I need to do it though we will cover it
That’s what she said all through this video.
😏😏😏
Did it last week and the other pittsburgh pump that screws into the bottle. Works really well too. I did run into an issue with the amount of fluid that came out. The rear diff went smoothly but only 2.5 liters came out of the warmed up and level transmission. Put the same amount back in and stick read between low and high. Ever heard about this issue?
Interesting, no I haven't. No leaks or anything on the trans? Could have not been filled up all the way before
@@Smeedia had no leaks, and I put the same amount of fluid as what came out and it was back to the correct level. Been searching around but haven't find this happen to anyone else.
Grwat video. Hold the bucket in the air and catch the oil then you wont be suprised, hahaha
Nope I used the 75/90 motul, same as the trans. The rear diff is a VLSD so it also uses the same gear oil 😁 and thank you for the support 🔥
brooooooooo Shoulda lifted the front of your car higher to get the most oil out..
Was limited on the garage space 😫 I ran 1 qt of fluid through it to drain of any residual old fluid before filling it up
Just a few more questions, what was the torque specs on the rear if any, and the torque spec for the front fill bolt. And how many bottles do you need for the entire job, got 5 but after seeing this think i may need another. Thanks in advance!
great upload again
Thank you! 😁
I'm about to do mine at 59k. I'm pretty sure the previous owner didn't do any diff or tranny fluid changes so it should be interesting...
Should be some dark fluid coming out 😳
No shit I'm doing the same thing today lol. Mine is at 72k miles. What about sticking a magnet in the drain plug to get out any shavings ? Think it would be worth it ?
Perfect timing then 😅 that fluid smells so bad
I pushed clean fluid through the rear diff off camera while battery were charging and that was enough to push out some debris. I used about .3 qts. A magnet inside might help though, worth a shot
Where did you buy the crush washer? Always love this maintenance! It helps us maintain ours as well w/o having to spend a lot on the dealer or other auto shops.
I snagged the washer from Subaru, was like $0.79 not too much. 😁😁 bought handful in bulk
I did this in my 11 STI it had 35 k I was second owner and the fluid was golden which I was like dam a waste but I forget is the drain plug the same size as the oil drain plug? I have a pack of ten crush washers. The front diff seal looks different for sure
Hey i plan on buying a 2020 wrx. What is a reasonable out the door price for base model. No add ons. I seen a internet price asked about price. Orlando is asking $27,185 (not sure if that's out the door yet). Please help
All depends on the packages that come with it, tax etc. I bought my old 2016 WRX Brand new for around 25K I believe and it was a premium model
@@Smeedia bare bones base model. How cheap is responsible. Think i can bring it down to 26,000? Thanks buddy. I knew i could count on you
@@alexanderhess1977 depends on your negotiation skills, but 26K + Taxes and licensing is very possible 🔥
@@Smeedia just want you to know i extremely appreciate you and your video's buddy. I have had very bad anxiety lately and a simple car informative video and a good ooooooh makes my day. Thanks buddy
@@alexanderhess1977 glad that they are helping then! I have a sense of what you go through some of my buddy's who I deployed with go through similar issues. Hope that it calms down a bit and please follow up when you get the New WRX! 😁
I heard around were I live harbor freight has tools that can compare to actual name brand tools so look in to it I could be wrong I was going to go too shopping this week
I have a few of their tools laying around, might swing up there
They do not compare to name brand tools but do work at a much lower price.
Had me dying when you made a mess lmao
Literally went errywhere 😅
I don’t have a floor jack too. For rear differential oil can be come out one quart only use a ramps? Thank you
Harbor Freight for torque rachet. But with torque wrenches your paying for % accuracy so keep that in mind.
Very trueeee 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for the video bro it helped a lot !
Glad it helped 😁😁😁
you said you needed 4 crush washers, 2 for rear diff and trany fill, and 2 for rear diff and trany drain, but there was another plug for the front diff that you didnt talk about needing a crush washer?
Hey so what torque spec is the rear diffs drain plug?
@9:40 what all my exes tell my boys as I open the door when I come from work early 🤦♂️
What are the torque specs for the drain/fill plugs on the rear differential, front differential and transmission?
I believe its 36 ft lbs but should all be in this form!
forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=964993
Hi there love your videos. Does the front diff and transmission use the same oil and get filled from same fill plug
Thank you! And yes they use the same gear oil and you will fill them both from the 1 fill plug on the side of the trans 😁
so the dif and trans take 75w90 same bottles ?
Just watched another video for changing Subaru diff oil and he mentioned the car should be level?
If you can get it legal it would be ideal 🙏
very informative!! so im at 43k-ish miles, should i just do it early?
Totally up to you but I would suggest it 😁
I did mine at the Subaru interval, and oil looked new. I think a lot depends on driving style. Nice video, easily a DIY job to save some real cash!
I enjoyed watching it cuz it relates to my 2014 sti when I changed the fluid myself. The dealership idiot used a impact wrench and dead tightened the shit out of my front diff drain bolt. With a help of a friend still no avail but luckily a neighbor auto stop with 2 strong dudes finally broke it loose and had to destroy the bolt surface and I got a new bolt and happily tighten to spec and done. No idea why dealer would use an impact and seal it, save time? Don’t want me do it? Or just idiot mechanic who just graduated from a auto class lol
Could be a combo of all three, some thing happened to me on my 08 STI. No idea why they would send the bolt in with an impact....
I am currently at 6,700 miles on my 19' STI. I plan on performing a transmission flush around 20,000 miles.
Good info , under you're car looks like an operating room compared to mine !
Camera and lighting every, scattered with tools and fluid 🤣
@@Smeedia It's more real , I do that every time , so I use a dollar store tarp now ! Oil absorbent is awesome and cleans up anything !
@@bruceholinight7978 not a bad idea! I just use old cardboard laying around. I work in chemical engineering and we do a lot of bio remediation so I generally just treat any spills to clean them up 😅
Murphy's law same happened to me awhile ago except for the light part.
Lmao for real it was one thing after another 😂 off camera I spilt a whole bottle of gear oil also
Hey boss. You need to have your car level when doing Gear oil so you may actually be overfilled with the car not level.
"Corected fill Statement"
I'm aware, added in a little extra. Don't have the ability to Jack the whole car up in the garage. Too narrow to do 😫
@@Smeedia Word. Just don't want to see your STI take a shit on you. ☺
Appreciate the good looking! The garage was built in the 60s so working with what I've got 😅
@@Smeedia If you're bored, take a look at my recent STI video. Had my second protune with a full header Tial EWG setup done. Totally recommend it.
@@Mikey6048 I'll check it out! About to head out to shoot a video but when I'm exporting the next one tonight I'll check it out 😍 been needing to snag some headers and EWG. Gotta save up some funds 🤣
Having the car leaning forward won’t make the oil stay in?
Your subi is on a wheel ramp when filling up. Inclined?? Will that be that on right full level?
I went off of liters when filling. But if you can use level ground that is the best way to do it 🙏
@@Smeedia might be doing mine with four jackstands?? Just to put it on level
That works 🔥
At what intervals do you change the front/rear differential oil? The manual says inspect at 30K, no mention of changing?
20K is when I do it. Subaru suggests swapping at 30K 🙏
Went to subaru and I got 4 bottles of gear 300 75/90 and 1 bottle of gear 300LS. They recommended the Ls for the rear diff. Do you think I’d be fine with it? I’ve seen everyone use just the 300 75/90 for front and rear.
This correct?
www.rallysportdirect.com/part/transmission-fluid/105778-motul-gear-300-ls-75w90-gear-oil-1qt?gclid=Cj0KCQiA-OeBBhDiARIsADyBcE6afATwMT60Bf1qAZteJ7OSnRe7d7_0aIhdKUubaB3Kai2O-UhYyu0aAnvyEALw_wcB
@@Smeedia yes! Subaru recommended that for the rear. But I’ve noticed everyone on forums using just the regular gear 300 for front and rear.
What I linked is what I used and it worked great!
@@Smeedia okay awesome. Doing this today so this video is gonna help a lot ! Appreciate it Tanner👍🏼
Is the motul gear 300 LS better for the rear?
Talking about gears...that reminds me have you heard about the gear wars??
Gear wars? Can't say I have
It was a rick and morty reference lol
@@chillwill405 I don't have cable, can only watch the old episodes 😅
Right on my guy i gotcha we all got the errday struggle im also getting a WRX gotta rep the boxer crew bruh💯 keep up the solid content cuz.
What exhaust is that with vband clamps?
ETS 🙏
I'm sorry wat are those little rings that you said you should've got 4..
I cant hear the name for some reason.
Crush washers 🙏
hey, ive seen other video, they had to take the TMIC to fill it from the top? im confused lol
The older models have a dipstick that you can fill it from. That stopped In 2007
Dude you should definitely make a video on a coolant flush :)
Kinda did one in the cylinder 4 cooling mod but I can make a dedicated one when I seap the radiator on the BRZ 😁
@@Smeedia that would be sweet! I'll be looking forward to it 😎
What are the torque specs for tightening those back down???? Im about to do mine lol!!!
Good and tight 😅 off the top of my head I want to say 30ish Ft Lbs but not 100% on that. Normally I just go until I see the crush washer crush
Hey wassup man, will be changing all my fluids next weekend, was planning on replacing my power steering fluid as well. Do you recommend the Subaru oem one? Or Valvoline, Redline, etc. Thank you!
Power Steering it's best to use OEM fluid 🔥🙏
Thanks for the great video! I am looking for the crush washers to use for the rear diff / transmission oil change and I noticed that the part number you have in the video description is not the same as the one you show in the video (just based on the number on the little baggie). Any chance you know if part number 803926070 or 803920050 is the correct one to use?
the dealer said i only need 1 crush washer and thats for the bottom trany plug?
The fill on the rear diff needs 1
The drain for the trans
Should be 2 I belive
What are the torque specs for the rear diff? Drain and Fill?
What all crush washers did you change? And are they all the same part number you posted? Looking on Subaru parts page I’m showing several different numbers that don’t match what you have. Gonna be doing this next week hopefully. Thanks for the video!
The two are for the rear diff, that's the part number Subaru gave me when I bought them from them. I had the other crush washer laying around. No idea on the part number I always buy them in bulk. If I can find the others I'll throw them up!
Smeedia if not, no worries. I may end up just running to the dealer and picking them up in bulk as well. Thanks again! Love the videos man, keep it up!
But u didnt change the transmission fluid. Only the 2 diffs?
is the crush washer the same size/style as the oil drain plug?
Does the differentials need any special additives for limited slip?
Idk where you got that fluid in the tubes at the end.... nothing that came out of your car looked like that
That was the fluid that came out of the rear diff 😅
Smeedia hmmm didn’t look that dark in the video... must be the lighting or something.
I think older subarus use around 4 quarts or just below that for the front but I would get 6 quarts in total just to be safe
Always better to have more than not enough 😅
4.3qts is the manufacturers fill spec. Too much fluid in transmissions and gearboxes will cause cavitation bubbles to form, degrading the viscosity and overall lubrication of the system. I would only fill what's recommended.
When filling the oil through the transmission fill hole, does that also fill the front differential or is there a separate fill plug for the front differential?
It also fills the front diff 🙏
@@Smeedia Good to know! Thank you
Thanks for this!
Anytime! 🔥😁
