I could definitely see this duo being the most ideal for a lot of folks out there. You just have to ensure that you're okay being locked into Capital One's ecosystem alone, but I think a lot of people are fine with that and this setup kills it from an earnings standpoint. Great breakdown man!
Thanks Spencer, I DO like the VX/Amex Gold setup that you've talked about, but I feel that setup is a bit trickier to justify for most people. SavorOne + Amex Gold can be nice though since you get Uber One through SavorOne and 4X + $120 Uber Eats credit with Amex Gold.
@@joshua.butler Fair point! The VX/Gold duo isn't for everyone, but for the right person I think it works extremely well. Good point on the Savor One/Gold combo.
Awesome breakdown of this duo Josh! This is such a monster combo since it can cover so many popular categories with low overhead. Simple setups are the new hype, and the C1VX + C1S1 is a great option for a lot of people!
16:07 Just here to update this part because Capital One does have a dedicated page where you can be pre approved for the Venture X. I did it two days ago, was approved and my car is waiting for me in my mailbox as I type this🙌🏽. I’m in the late stages of the credit card game so I didn’t think I would get approved but I did and now I’ll wait till the end of the year to apply for the Savor One to complete my Capital One duo.
Thank you Joshua as people are finally catching on. This is the perfect bi-fecta. Works well for Costco shoppers, guarantees 2x on gas. Pays for entertainment purchases as well. It’s like the perfect setup for the everyday consumer. Not to mention good travel securities and a rakuten type of shopping discounts
An update on capital one and waiting 6 months in between cards. I was approved for a Venture X in August and was just approved for a Savor card in November. Super excited because i was able to complete the Capital One duo in 3 months!! Hope that helps!
Haha I'll start going with the Duo instead of the Bifecta 😂. Love the Cap One Duo though- awesome & clear way to lower your effective fee, plus I'm really starting to think the Savor One is simply one of the best well-rounded No AF Cards out there. Great video here Josh!
Something to keep in mind with Capital One and referrals: if the person you refer currently has, or has ever had (even if it is cancelled) ANY Capital One credit product, they will *NOT* honor the referral. After 2 hours of extolling the virtues of VentureX to a friend who has for 20+ years refused to get a premium card and immediate approval, Capital One will not honor the referral bonus because she has a Quicksilver sitting in her desk drawer.
Wow, this is the first time I'm hearing about something like this... sorry to hear about your experience, but thanks for sharing it with the community. I definitely need to look into this a bit more to see if anyone else has run into this issue.
i got venture x but I do think pair venture X with US bank attitude reserve could be a excellent duo. Attitude reserve gives 3X on mobile wallet, and another 1.5X if you redeem the points thru their travel portal. That is 4.5% on all mobile payment, including food and groceries that accept mobile payments.
Ah you missed the S1 cash back value ‘move rewards’ to VX for 1cpm ….this is the true power of this DUO!!! $1 is 100 miles to the VX! You can rake in so many miles this way!
I thought Bifecta wasn't even a word 😃. Another creator that I converse with and has close to an 800 credit score across all bureaus was just denied for the Venture... The regular Venture 😢. Capital One hates me so it is what it is with them 😂
If you have a lot of cards they'll deny you right off the back either u start with a lower card spend a lot and then apply or get a lower card then upgrade if you already have lots of cards. They think you'll get the bonus and leave
It’s definitely possible this can influence their decision, but I had about 17 personal credit cards when I got approved for the venture x. I had no prior relationship with them, either. 🤷♀️
I have the CSP and quicksilver (don’t use) and planning on a Europe trip with some of my chase points. Should I start to get the trifecta for chase with the flex now? Or should I just get the venture X since I can get the sign up bonus instantly with my flights? Just now getting used to navigating the chase portal and partners. Not really sure what I’d do with capital ones travel partners in my area
The flex is definitely a nice addition to the CSP. Do you care about airport lounge access? If so, which lounges are in your airport? Priority pass comes with the Venture X, but it can be hit or miss depending on your airport. The welcome offer on the venture X is nice and I’ve had a couple good experiences with their travel portal so far. If you can figure out how to get use out of Capital One Miles, the venture X is a nice card to have. Some people may not want to deal with multiple point systems which is understandable.
@@joshua.butler I don’t have a major airport near me for lounges so I don’t think I’d use that part tbh. Part of me wants to get the VX for the signup, but then the other part wants to build the trifecta too. Tough
The nice thing about the VX is its really easy to justify holding even if you don't use lounges at all. I actually just purchased a flight on the Cap1 portal and got the 5x miles, then the $300 travel credit was added to my statement balance, and then I used the miles I had towards the remainder of that flight. Even if that's the only thing I used the Venture X for all year, I'd come out net positive.
The SavorOne pairs nicely with the Amex Gold right now since you get a free Uber One membership from it... other than that, the only real benefit from the SavorOne is the entertainment bonuses. If you have the CSP, I'd say the Venture X may be worth it as long as you can get value from the $300 travel credit and bonus miles.. However, if you have the CSR, the Venture X is pretty redundant.
Hey thanks!!! It all comes down to the math. If you spend more than $9,500/year on dining, entertainment and streaming, the savor becomes better than the savorone.
@@joshua.butler thanks for the reply! The savor is also a world elite mastercard and the Vx is a infinite visa. Might have to do some math on this. Thanks again!!
I've got my VentureX card, I see the $395 fee on my account already but I do not see the $300 travel credit. When will that be available and where can I see it.
Grats on the card! The travel credit is given as a statement credit for travel that you purchase from the Capital One travel portal with your Venture X.
I just received my Venture X... Would the 6 month rule apply if I have been a Capital One customer and was sent an email letting me know of a pre approval for Savor one? I am curious to know if they are different approval measures
do you need to unfreeze credit bureaus for the soft pull pre-qualification? Really want the Venture X but if inquiry sensitive, thinking I don't have a chance with 5 cards this year alone. In Amex pop up jail right now and looking for other options.
Yes, for the preapproval tool to work properly, credit shouldn't be frozen. Whelp, the nice thing is you can check the preapproval tool regularly with no impact to your credit. Amex popup jail is no fun! 😕
The pre approval tool is a soft pull, yes. Preapproval doesn’t guarantee approval, however. Also, Venture X is not included in the preapproval tool, but the Venture is. If people are looking to get approved for the venture X, I recommended them check the tool to see if they’re preapproved for the Venture.
Ok I will apply for the Venture X and then wait 6 months and then the other? I’m a Costco shopper. I think I will be using only the Costco one for gas. Is 5% on gas good for a credit card?
Yes you'd want to wait 6 months between Venture X and SavorOne applications. Costco card is definitely a good card for gas. 5% on gas is the best I've seen. I personally use the Abound Credit Union Platinum Visa. The Citi Custom Cash is another great option for 5% on gas (but it's a mastercard, so if you get your gas at Costco, you'd need a visa).
@@joshua.butlerI applied for the Venture X with your referral. I got approved. Way moree than the Bilt. That is still for me a mystery. Will go for the duo in a few months. Thank you.
I like the video, but there is way too much movement and editing 😂. Side cam is annoying and unsettling anyways but with add shaky cam? And zoom ins etc? It's so much! This is better than the Amex Trifecta and Chase Trifecta for most people 👀(*ducks for cover*)
It’s simpler and covers more categories. And is much cheaper than the AMEX trifecta and easier to get into the green than even that Chase trifecta.

Can a venture one card take the place of venture x?
The product change options I see for my Venture X are the Quicksilver and the Venture One, so yes, you should be able to do this!

You can, but the savorone pairs a lot better with the venture x since the venture x already gets 2x back on everything.
