The Vulcan is a popular Mech built for an anti-infantry role towards the end of the Amaris Civil War.
It has a wide assortment of weapons intended to allow it to defeat both infantry while still having some ability to fend off Battlemechs; however, the Vulcan's weaponry are not especially synergistic or powerful.
Overall, the Vulcan can be a clumsy Mech with poor armor for such a large scout and conflicting weaponry. A redesign is needed to bring out its potential against Mechs.

These videos have really helpped me out in my first playthrough of the game! I'm holding out for an eventual Assassin build. Ronin Fox Armored Security has good refits
Thank you very much good sir! Yeah it'll eventually be the Assassin's turn. The Assassin 25 got a good run in my current stream where I equipped it with a mace for thumping people's rear armor, but obviously I won't be choosing the 25 for my normal Assassin review.

They're pretty fun. The extra range is nice.
Never thought the vulcun could be good
The secret is the AC5. Most Mechs at that speed can equip it, and it's really the sort of battle rifle style weapon of the game useful at any range and any weight class.
The refit is pretty decent I have never tried to make the Vulcan work before and while I always use since over BF weapons I the AC5 on such a fast high mount is nice.
Getting an AC5 in on what essentially is still a light Mech is a gamer changer in the early game.
A team of these bring 4 AC5s to battle which lets them swat down all the basic enemies, and other light Mechs can't outmaneuver them since the AC5 has such a long range.
That’s a nice build, I like it. I figure the 6/9 movement speed it the sweet spot for 40 ton mechs.

This is one of those builds that required little testing as I had hammered it out like maybe 2 years ago and has been a stable design in my streaming playthroughs, so it was already the model I was very confident in. I still tested it against a theoretical AC2/knuckle build which also did well, but I figured it'd be less new player friendly.
I've made some risky builds with a vulcan such as a dual AC2 build since the AC2 fits into small ballistic slots making it very surprisingly versatile weapon.
Yeah the Mech has that slightly larger than average engine that makes it hard to mount anything especially heavy on it. Like it's basically 50% free space 50% engine and internals.
I really like the Vulcan also! I like them for the ai too. AC/5 that early in the game is just excellent, simple as that. One of few mechs that the early schematic design matches the modern piranha games remaster!
Yeah the Mech is a real triple threat since it combines the speed of light Mechs, the cheap/availability of light Mechs, but brings in the sneaky AC5 that light Mechs can't mount. I think only the UrbanMech can mount an AC5 in the light class.
I never considered using an AC5 on a Vulcan. I might ask though, why the machine gun?
Nothing else is going to fit since the machine gun and half a ton of ammo is just 1 ton in total. There's no way to swap it up into a Light Rifle on such a tight tonnage budget.
Also, machine guns do more damage than you'd expect. Small lasers, flamers, and machine guns are pretty strong in MW5.
