Luffy beat Lucci so badly in Enies Lobby that it completely changed his life. I think a part of him admires the way that Luffy is. He had to learn to put trust in his comrades more like the Straw Hats (they raised money for his medical bills in the cover stories) and he also refused to fall even after being beaten by Zoro (similar to how Gear 2 Luffy refused to fall to him until he defeated him and Robin was safe).
Also about the birds, don't forget about Morgan, who is the character who has shown the most to act out of free will. This theory it's very very accurate

glad to hear you agree with the theory of factional splitting in the Marines over the WG (which vegapunks message will be the catalyst for). This could also be what Kizaru is building toward right now in egghead Island, to betray the WG once the truth becomes unavoidable. During Luffys' fight with Kaido, there is a panel showing Luffy wield lightning like a sword. I agree with your lightning theory.

A theory I’ve had for a long time and one that I haven’t heard of before is that Shanks “betrayed’ Roger and handed him to the WG. This was a plan with Roger to get Shanks close to the 5 elders and the beginning of building that trust. I believe it may be connected to what Roger whispered to Shanks which was hidden from us. It doesn’t make sense for him to have close ties to the WG just because of bloodline because we saw with Doflamingo that he couldn’t return. So more has to be done to be given that close tie with them. Most recently we’ve seen York betray Vegapunk in order to gain that closeness to the five elders and CD which seems to be so far working. Betrayal is an interesting theme to analyze in the series, perhaps some inspiration for you :)
