I grew up in a four bedroom Bi-level house in the sixties and seventies. There was an actual foyer when you came in the front door. The family room down the lower level was huge that you could add a fifth bedroom if you wanted too. As for the appliance situation, it’s no worse than getting a washer/dryer down a dark unfinished basement. I miss that house.
My childhood home was similar, the living room, kitchen, foyer and dining were on the first main floor. The upstairs was bedrooms and baths and the downstairs was the family room and another large room and bathroom. We had a basement and a garage and a large back patio. I miss that house.
I loved my bilevel when we first got it - 18 yrs ago. Now? The stairs are a KILLER on my old knees and the layout of a bilevel makes it a bit inconvenient trying to find a suitable place to install an elevator. We did tear out the wall between the small main upper level bath and the smaller master bath and converted them into one full bath/laundry room so I could do the laundry again. Now I'd like to expand the lower level half bath to a full bath so we can have two full baths again. I'd prefer a ranch house now that the kids are grown or somehow find a way to install an elevator without losing space anywhere in the house. Yeah, right. HAHAHA
I own one of these and don't like it at all. I was basically forced to buy it about 16 months ago. Rates were going up and there was literally nothing else available that was better. "No inventory" as my agent put it. So your comment gives me hope that I'll be able to sell this place in 8 years or so.
@@Lola_Loren In my experience in appliance delivery I’ve done my fair share of fridge deliveries in bi-levels and most of them were nerve wracking especially if the only door opening wide enough for the fridge was the front door and up the stairway inside the house. In my area most people who live in bi-levels are very ignorant.
Sometimes you just need to pay for a pro. Hoist the fridge up over the back deck, assuming you have enough room on one side of the home. If you have to remove a door, it's also not too difficult.
I would have to disagree with the tons of light bc it’s a bilevel. That comment was more specific to maybe the home you were in, and other factors like positioning of home, etc. they aren’t so cool.

Prices are going nuts for these and hard to find. Love this style!

Bi-level houses are a nightmare for appliance delivery guys. Especially fridges.
split levels went out of fashion along with popcorn ceilings and shag carpet. and yeah, they are absolutely horrible for accessibility.
@@TMS5100 not in my area . In my area of NY they are still being made
Well, geez how many refrigerators/ovens/dishwashers you plan on having delivered in your lifetime. That's what delivery people get paid to do.

This is not a bi level. This is a split level. There is a difference
This is bilevel/ split entry
