Both buildings seem EXTREMELY dry! I gather there is linseed oil in that because the wood is just sucking it up. Your brush must be just a nub when you're done, haha

There are small pump sprayers that you could use to paint with , they don’t require electricity, you just pump it and the pressure sprays the paint out. They aren’t very expensive. It might help
Red paint is amazing so little preparation required and it must be incredibly weatherproof. Pity I can’t find anything in the UK that works so well on garden fences?
The barn is looking amazing! What color will the doors be? I love that you do wood carving. Not an art you see much of these days. And that boiled paint sure looked like a big ol' pot of tomato soup! Nice job.
Just a word of warning about mid-century upholstered furniture. The foam is ridiculously flammable! And the fumes are very toxic! If you are able to have them reupholstered I highly recommend you do it. (I know it's expensive though 😞) Just heat is enough for the foam to self-ignite so be very careful around log burners, heating pads and electronic chargers etc! Since the fire can start inside the cushions it can be difficult to notice it in time to prevent smoke-damage and it is hard to put the fire out too.
Thanks for the warning. I'll probably sell the sofa so that won't be an issue but the chairs might be. I'll look into upholstering them. Maybe a silly question but is sun shining in through the window an issue?

It’s the traditional Falu Rödfärg (Falu Redpaint), a lot of the houses and barns in Sweden are painted with this.
Those woodpeckers have a lot to say! lol. My backyard has many woodpeckers too, but different species.

Yeah very dry! Probably around 30-40 years without any new paint

Thank you! The doors will be black, as that is the custom for barns. They'll also get some paint this summer but need to renovate them first

Rödfärg från byggmax. Tyvärr inte faluröd, tycker den blir för dyr i såna här mängder
