Watching the embers turn into ash was amazing. Using Cal’s ability to see into the history of people and objects was an amazing way to have us play as Cere and experience her last moments
What did he touch to see into her memories? Edit: I get it now! The embers turning into Ash and the weird warping visual in the background showed that Cal was using Psychometry to view Cere's last moments. I was wondering why Vader just willingly let Cal chill there with Cere's body, but the fact that the embers were ash and Cere's eyes were closed when we see Cal, alongside the warped background, all implies he is using Psychometry. The saddest part is that her last words were Cal and Trilla, not knowing if Cal is dead or not, and Cal wasn't able to say goodbye. Damn. When he thought he was going to die, Cere was his last word, too. Like a mother, son relationship. Hits even harder after the novel. What a scene. Thanks for pointing this out
Wait there's a novel???
yeah, and so creative too
The most sad part about thus scene is that Cal didn't even got to say goodbye to Cere, he just heard her last thoughts using psychometry
The moment where Cal is holding Cere in his arms is one of the best looking cutscenes I have ever seen in a game. Cameron's performance was incredible his body language and facial expressions are amazing and the games cutscenes really show this, especially this scene.
@@vrooooooooooooooooooom no, no, he's quite right
Debra Wilson said in an interview that this scene was very intense and it was her last scene with Cam too. So this was effectively her goodbye. She could feel Cam's tears fall on her cheeks and shoulders while he was holding her. Sometimes I wish this was live action because even if the in-game was so good, it doesn't nearly do the scene justice enough.
Beautiful
Just wish they didn't blur out his crying and screaming it was well deserved for us to hear
@elliotgreen2279 I was able to hear him crying and screaming in my playthrough. Apparently some for some people they could hear him and for some people they couldn't
People complaining about Darth Vader "being nerfed" should remember how Ahsoka gave him a run for his money just as Cere here did, i don't think there was any disservice done to Vader with this fight. He still win, but it was with effort, instead of his classic stroll walk.
Ashoka took Vader by surprise..... He dominated the duel without any scratch.
I absolutely don't think Vader was nerfed here, but Ahsoka didn't give him a run for his money. She was able to keep up with him and get him by surprise while he was distracted. He still would have killed her if it weren't for Ezra and she was nowhere near close to actually killing him.
Cere is a Jedi Master, though. She was already a Jedi Knight even before the Clone Wars (while Anakin was younger than her and was only promoted to a Knight *during* the Clone Wars). Not only she is a Clone Wars veteran like Anakin, but she also survived the purge. If anyone has a chance of giving Vader trouble, its a Jedi Master of her capabilities.
And she still lost. No nerfs here.
Ahsoka snuck up from behind to land a hit on Vader. In a straight up fight, Vader straight up dominated and KO'd her. Horrible comparison.
@@JayL- i am not denying that Ahsoka lost, but i always assumed it was hard fought, because we cut from them fighting to Darth Vader stumbling out of the temple, exhausted like he just runned a 24 hours marathon. And ehy, not many people can claim to have sneaked up on Vader and hit him, it takes skills to even do that.
@@giacomoromano8842 no it doesn't, it's called protagonist magic aka ezra bridger armour. Plus they needed to milk ashoka tano as the character, they weren't even able to let her die, hence magical portals just so ezra could play white knight
She had no chance of beating vader but she actually tried, thats a lot more than most people wouldve
She actually had a pretty good chance. She was literally a few inches off
True, I kind of saw the fight as "I'm going to die but I'm going to make sure I buy as much time with my life as possible" kind of thing.
@TheAdventGamer exactly, and the fact she wanted a rematch with vader kind of proves what you're saying even more, she new she couldn't actually beat him but she wanted a shot to buy time and she wanted to try and damage him as much as possible
@@karolclark791 Yeah but its a clear Vader nerf. They overpowered her just to give her a badass scene.
@@jamieroseman4429 It’s not a Vader nerf. This just isn’t the moronically powerful legends Vader where he took on an entire group of 8 Jedi most of who were masters and we were supposed to believe that it was plausible. Especially given a barely trained Luke defeated him. Which is why those stories are fanfic now. The canon goes out of its way to prove two thing: 1) Vader barely had any sufficient challenges post Order-66, most masters were dead. A battle-hardened Jedi Master is a threat. 2) Vader’s defeat by Obi-Wan and reliance on his restrictive suit contrasts were he was before Mustafar. He is not some force god.
I think this fight does a pretty good job of showing why Vader is such a dangerous adversary. He's not only built like a tank with his suit, but he is also very cunning and tenacious. When Cere thought she had the upper hand with Vader pinned helplessly against the wall, she leapt at him to finish him off. She was walking into a trap; all Vader had to do was grab her arm and shift to the side, and with that Cere impaled herself on his lightsaber. She snatched defeat from what she thought were the jaws of victory, and her growing power became her undoing...
Something has to. Tbh we get this picture painted for us between order 66 and a new hope of Vader running through the galaxy just slaying jedi masters. Yet everytime we've seen him in combat, very few times has he been impressive. He's lost to Obi Wan twice, only could beat Obi Wan when he was an old man and had not practiced the force in 30 years, even in that fight its questionable whether Vader truly won or Obi just sacrificed himself. Vader was not super impressive against Luke even when Luke was still a Padawan and eventually being bested by Luke. It almost feels like Vader was way more hype than he actually was.
Vader is also faster than he looks, even when in the suit.
@@nicholasroberts7891 In the fight with Obi-Wan, Kenobi always had a way of getting into Vader's head. Even if logically he should have been stronger then Obi-Wan, he always seem to slip up due to his past with Obi-Wan. In Luke's case, Luke was his son, he wasn't going to go full force against his flesh and blood who he wanted to join him in the darkside.
@@nicholasroberts7891 Vader had emotional attachments to both those people and his emotions have always been his downfall.
@@TheRealAb216 yet without emotion, he would not have been strong in the dark side. That is the difference right? Yes dark side users are stronger in theory, as they utilize the full power of the force whereas the jedi do not as they know that the force at full power is uncontrollable. The siths biggest weakness is always will power. They are mentally weak, you could see the fear in Sidious eyes when Windu bested him. The jedi show no fear in the face of death, they even embrace it if it is a sacrifice to others. I dont think Vader is mentally strong. Anakin was shown to be paranoid, apprehensive, and cynical. He was easily manipulated by sidious who pondered to that fear. Made Anakin think all of his apprehensions were true, but it was not him that was afraid.. it was the jedi that were afraid of him. I mean, this is the simplest manipulation ever.
This segment tore my guts out. A safe haven was found, The Order was being restored, Cal was in the company of Jedi once again after years of being alone, there was hope of finally having a home again. Then it was all torn down around him. When he holds Cere, you can really feel his pain, the realisation that he is a lone Jedi once again.
Vader limping off from a fight is powerful in itself. There was nobody around that he held attachment to as Anakin, so he definitely wasn’t nerfed.
Cere is just that strong of a Jedi…
@Matheus Alcântara People don't realize that Vader is able to (nearly) lose sometimes, it just makes him more interesting.
Yup if only she didn't do that stupid, dive move she would have won.
You can see from the first phase of the fight that he's holding back, using only one hand for his lightsaber and even doing that cheeky force-block thing where he lowers his sword in the middle of a clash.
But then as she proves that she's stronger than that, he actually puts both hands on his lightsaber and _tries._ By the time she drops that flaming shelf on him, he's actually, seriously fighting for his life. But Cere gets cocky _once_ and that's enough to seal her fate.
Cere isnt that strong just plot.
Vader is actually nerfed because of his suit. Anakin is stronger.
8:40 Vader: You missed me. But if it's any consolation you died bravely
Reminded me of ezra:
I don't fear you
Vader: Then you will die braver than most
Honestly, Vader probably just moved his body an inch at the right moment. She was diving, and really unable to change direction. Dude is to calm to not make a split second decision like that and counter the $%^% out of her the way he did.
Still, brilliant fight.
@@SuitYak He didn't move lol he grabbed her hand and moved it and just impelled her. She got checkmated tbh
One of the most heartbreaking deaths in all of Star Wars. She was a survivor who did all she could to preserve the jedi and was willing to do whatever it took for what she believed in.
Padmes and obi wans were way heartbreaking but ok bud
Yep, what makes it all the more depressing is she jumped right into vader lightsaber while he was stunned killing herself they nerfed vader and he won be sheer luck ig

I liked this fight and I don't feel Vader was Nerf for the next reasons
1. His suit was damaged so he was fighting while using the force to substance himself
2. Vader is way OP but one of his major weapons is how all his opponents fear him and don't fight to their full potential since they are scared Cere used the dark and light side of the force and had no fear in her heart so she was fighting to her fullest she was not going to win but gave better fight than many jedis
A low tier Jedi shouldn’t have been able to scratch Vader he was massively nerfed

Honestly, I think vader, struggling against high level Jedi and still winning makes him more badass
He isn’t some invincible monster he’s just the best at what he does and that’s dueling force users
He never struggled lol
@@daniell5740 When Vader goes for the two handed block, that's how you know he's struggling, or at the very least, actually giving a damn. This has been the case since Empire Strikes Back, when he wiped the floor with Luke in the last couple of minutes. Vader does the exact same thing here.
@@andyroobrick-a-brack9355 Exactly how I interpreted the fight as well. Vader is powerful but also at times arrogant and overconfident he wants to break his adversaries alongside killing them so he plays with his prey to test them.
This can sometimes backfire for pre-anh vader especially but every time he is surprised he actually starts to care about the fight and when he does he always wins in the end because then his opponents are more prone to mistakes.
Plus in terms of the fight with Cere it is pretty clear from the way the movement is portrayed in the cutscenes alone that she is severely outmatched and I think Respawn captured Vader brilliantly in this fight because of the last phase alone.
It's the same reason why John Wick is a badass. Characters who get up after an ass whooping are the just so cool.
Basically vader in every star wars comics story
I’m not gonna lie, Cere’s death got me. I seriously almost cried. I know she was facing Vader and I knew she wasn’t going to win, but I was hoping she would escape like the end of the last game. Such a great story!
Sad thing is she coulda won if she didnt force jump herself into a stunned vaders light saber these fights arent really all that nice, starwars will never be what it was
My favourite aspect is that Vader says nothing to Cere after he mortally wounds her.
No gloating.
No "you fought well".
Just walks away.
For Cere it was the most important, and ultimately last battle of her life. For Vader, it was Tuesday.
9:35 When I got to this point I was actually shaking from how good this part was. The soundtrack elevated this to the best part of the game.
me too man...damn near cried
Id be shaking and crying too after watching cere kill herself on vaders lightsaber he was stunned against a wall and she force jumped into her own death, why is starwars always doomed to never top what it was
The thing I love about modern Star Wars (starting with Rogue One) is how they portray Vader as this unstoppable force.
He is someone you *should* fear.
And... I mean, tbh, Vader has plot armor
If Vader is on EP6, It means that he defeated all enemies who he fought against.
kind of but not really, in any media he's showed in he NEEDS to survive for the media to be considered canon

Crazy to think Vader fought obi wan and killed cere in the same year

Nothin sinister or malicious behind my comments, merely just commenting on the fact that it's Disney and virtue signaling these days is practically all they're about :)
This is one of the bosses, where even if you defeat the boss, you will die in the cutscene.
The health bar at the top of the screen doesn't represent Vader's HP. It represents his patience.
It's a tough year for Vader to be yeeted by both Cere and Obi Wan
To be honest, I seen him push to his limits on legend even on the comic of Canon and besides every one of those he actually learned so even if they were tough years they were not oblivious years
Not going to lie but was not going to see Master Cordover dying and then Cere and Cal being there really tore into my soul. Cameron Monaghan is such a good actor :)
Its extremely good but I don't think the graphics even did his acting justice. I watched an interview with Debra (Cere) and she said shooting that scene was intense. She could literally feel Cameron's tears fall on the side of her face and her shoulders as he held her. It makes me wish this was a movie or series even more.
@@rumblefish9 Interesting you say that cause during the ending, when he finally finds the words to say to Cere, it really felt to me like he was crying, and the lack of tears stood out.

Cere really gave Vader a run for his money. If he wasn’t so OP, she might’ve won.
Or if Vader didn’t have plot armor. This here is REAL plot armor. Not that made up shit. This game is considered canon to the Star Wars story/universe. Vader dies in episode 6 so no matter what he can never be allowed to die.
I agree, I hate when people say “comics Vader never would’ve struggled” I’ve read all the comics, and there are SEVERAL instances where he he comes very close to being beaten and most of the time he only wins because he “cheats” and, yknow, he doesn’t really care about dying
@@shaneszczecinski2566
Not true lol
Vader was toying with her.
@@meurumtrain4747 That's what you get when you choose to write your story between pre-established lore. Not really Vader's fault, is it?
Based on what we've seen here and in Fallen Order, I'd say Cere's primary fighting form was Ataru. She's quite speedy on the battlefield and dedicates all her energy into a blitzkrieg assault. In a similar vein to Qui Gon Jinn, however, she made sure to temper her attacks, providing more room for defence when put on the backfoot. She adds to her offence by using Force abilities to hamper her opponents, preventing a counterattack, though this only works consistently if the opponent is decidedly weaker in the Force, which Darth Vader is not. The main weakness for Form 4 is presented in how Cere was defeated. Much like with Ven Zallow's duel with Darth Malgus, Cere fully dedicated herself to an attack and failed to notice the subtle movement of Darth Vader which allowed him to dodge her killing blow whilst simultaneously delivering one of his own.
Ataru would make the most sense, as judging by her former Padawan, Trilla’s fighting style in the last game, she also uses form 4, along with form 7
The lightsaber forms were invented as a gameplay mechanic for the star wars role-playing game and its video game derivatives. They have never factored into any material outside that ecosystem and pretending otherwise is silly. Cere is not using anything. You wrote a paragraph of nerdy gobbledygook for no reason
@@kryptoskillet1131 And that’s all it is. Lore. Flowery words conjured up by some forgotten writer to add flavour to the rule book of a tabletop RPG.
Seriously attempting to analyse any visual depiction of lightsaber combat through that lens is a worthless exercise.
@@mphylo2296 it's called geeking out. You should try it sometimes
@@kryptoskillet1131 It’s moronic to treat the lightsaber combat forms like they’re something that you can visually observe. They’re modifiers on a character sheet. Sorry to burst your bubble, but the animators who worked on Jedi Survivor were not thinking about lightsaber forms when they created these cutscenes. It’s not that deep.
Alot of people don't give Cere the credit she deserves here because she's not an original cast character. She's one of the very few jedi masters that have been genuinely seduced by the dark side of the force and had truly conquered it. The only other noteworthy Jedi Masters that achieved this was Yoda, Mace Windu, Obi-Wan, and Luke Skywalker (And eventually Anakin).
She might have been one of the strongest masters Vader has fought in a long time since most were simply afraid or have been neglecting their training. Not only did Vader think it was going to be an easy fight (like the first game where she got absolutely ragdolled) but it probably threw him off how strong she became.
I saw someone say that Vader's health bar is a patience meter and whenever it gets too low, he loses his patience and just kills you

Okay is it me or does this one feel like it had more of a Force Unleashed vibe than the first one? Especially with this fight, i don’t think we’ve fought Vader in a game since TFU2 and we’re not even at Starkillers power level. And I mean like a proper boss fight. Last game vader came in, almost dominated us with a force choke and we had to run for our lives lol
It was so shocking, to realize that when you were playing as Cere, Cal was using his abilities to see her last moments.
Cere actually made him try and could have killed him if it weren’t for his last minute catch. Vader is op and all but people gotta give Cere her credit
Lucas realy got us all into thinking Jedi Masters were a bunch of useless (Prequels), I'm glad the Jedi are finally being shown as STRONG, before Cere, just with the movies, were like 3 or 4 actually strong Jedi Masters, the other ones were dying by dinossaur bites
@@Henrique-gh1wf This is explained in the Prequels.
In Episode 2, there is a scene where Yoda and Mace Windu sit down and discuss the fact that their connection to the force is weakening; and debate if they should bring up this fact to the Senate.
The Jedi Order at that point had become a shell of its former self, forgoing the teachings of Jedi of Old, and serving not the Will of the Force but the Republic and Senate.
Cere is a legit Jedi Master, but that stab wouldn’t have killed him. He got stabbed in the same place in the last game and he just tanked it.
Vader thinking he’s hot shit, little does he know I completed the double oggdo bogdo fight 30 minutes before this fight.
After all the Jedi Vader killed before this point cere is the only Jedi that died with Vader's respect he let her die in peace after cere almost killed him

To beat Vader, you must become what you swore not to be. Luke almost didn't come back from his hatred.
I love how vaders strikes get progressively stronger as he wants to end this fight as fast as possible, you could really feel the impact especially in the last phase of the fight when he was covered in flames. Maybe reminds him of the mustafar incident
cere had a serious chance of winning, but we know how the story ends
Darth Vader doesn't have a health bar.
Just a patience meter.
I love this because it reminds me of the legends comics of Vader fighting Jedi masters
3:30 Jedi live like this and don't see any issue?
I like how in 80% of the expanded universe content Darth Vader shows up in (videogame, tv show, etc) he gets his ass beat and does that weakened breathing thing lol. Can't wait to see who else beat the hell out of Vader but didn't finish the job bc the original trilogy had to happen.
5:30 ah yes. The cocky walk Vader/Anakin does when he feels like he's overwhelmed his opponent.
Wasn't really happy to see her die but damn was that scene done extremely well. Easily one of the best scenes in a game (especially death scenes) that I've experienced.
I like how vaders stance at 7:07 reminds me of a samurai in heavy armor and 7:13 was just cinematic af.
Its after winning these fights that propels Vader into becoming a menace.
Cere's only mistake
believing that she was a bird
Cere fought amazingly especially since she was in a battle before battling Darth Vader
Does anyone else catch Cal grabbing BD-1 and shielding him because he tried to jump and help Cordova?? My heart is in shambles
uNcle Greez's shock and silent pain cut DEEP. 😢😢😢
Every time I think Vader can't get more badass (and terrifying), I'm proven very wrong. And I'm totally fine with that
7:18 this part was great since Vader was clearly trying to induce great fear in her by simply holding her blade back with the force, but she conditioned herself to have 0 fear of Darth Vader, so she quickly slips out from his grasp.
Rewatching this fight made me think that Cere had a decent fighting chance because of lightsaber style match up. Vader always fights with idea of dominance through power, and Cere, in cutscenes and clashes, always redirects the flow rather then face it head on. The moment Cere jumped in a straight line, foregoing that aproach, she lost.

You have a 50/50 chance to win any light sabre duel. However I am a cybernetic freak and your odds just dropped 25%. Throw in my plot armour and story cannon and that adds an easy 50% chance of me winning. So now that you have a 25% chance at best and compare that to my boosted 125% chance odds of winning, the numbers don’t lie and they spell disaster for you in this boss fight
THE NUMBERS DONT LIE CERE
She would have made a fine leader of the new Jedi council. I use to think Vaders suit was a hinderance to him but man it really helps him in tough battles. When Kenobi walked away from the dual he probably did the smart thing lol
I like how die hard Star Wars fans make Vader out to be this OP, lightsaber god within the dark side, but fails to remember how those feats don’t mean a thing when he got one shotted by the emperors lingering lightning before he threw him off the main floor.
The Emperor will be most pleased with this discovery
Here too you can see that Lord Vader only narrowly escaped his death
No one else gonna mention how she said Trilla before she died 🥺 both her padawans
exactly why did she say trilla? is she still alive by any chance?
She made the wise choice to use the force to bid time for cal in the first game. If only she learned from that action, there is no beating vader in a duel.
I actually think Vader is far more dangerous with his force powers. Vader is an incredibly powerful and efficient duelist, but he's nowhere near as aggressive or mobile as he was as Anakin, who was probably one of the best duelists of his age, let alone in the history of the Jedi.
@andyroobrick-a-brack9355 I like your opinion his force powers were way better after being stuck in his robotic form. Palpatine knew how to bring the dark side out of him to its full potential
This cinematic glitched for me. I was still playing as Cere in the cutscene so it literally shows Cere holding Cere, it made a really sad scene into a joke and ruined it for me :(
One of The best Star Wars fights of all time in my opinion. Cere is a very powerful Jedi Master she can contend with the best. And watching Vader actually have to fight for a chance was fucking amazing to witness.

Tbf she was kinda kicking his ass, her “finishing” move was the dumbest decision she could have made
I think Vader could’ve destroyed her but was cocky
I love that flaw about Vader. In a way, Anakin Skywalker is ‘dead’, but a trait like that kinda shows fans that Anakin’s still kicking in there, he’s just much much different from what he once was
He was much less aggressive in the beginning
@@michaelj.f.4602 same here it shows the flaw of why he’s not the most powerful jedi
7:15 is so badass dude
5:16, that had to be a reference to Obi-Wan and Vader in A New Hope
8:16 bro that three point saber combo missing was utterly hilarious I don't even know why but I'm dying
Soon as i saw darth vader come in through that door i knew it was over for poor cere
Bro the game literally just dropped why you gotta put that in the title
How about you not spoil the game with the friggin title.
One thing I learned about Cere’s death scene was that you don’t hear Cal crying on ‘New Journey’, but you hear him cry during the scene in new game +. I guess so that first time players could just soak the moment in
man, the graphics in this version are crazy. The only thing I noticed is that in the PC version, you could hear Cal crying for Cere as he holds her, I couldn't hear it in this one, still rips my heart out.
THIS JEDI REMINDS ME OF SAM CASSELL 😂😂😂
8:35 That UNO reverse card tho
